Incident commanders in the fire and rescue service need to think and act under pressure. This requires not only technical knowledge but also the psychological skills essential for effective command. Dr Philip Butler's research has produced a freely available assessment tool and training programme which helps to support the development of these vital skills.
This research, led by Dr Philip Butler at Cardiff University, was awarded a Panel Commendation in the 2023 ESRC Celebrating Impact Prize Outstanding Early Career Impact category. The Prize, now in its 11th year, is an annual opportunity to recognise the success of ESRC-funded researchers in achieving and enabling outstanding economic or societal impact from their research.
