The psychology behind Hisokas character | Psychologist watching

ANALYSIS
This video is the second part of my analysis, "how Hunter X Hunter affects the viewer psychologically". It is focused on the antagonist Hisoka Morou and his personality.
Looking on the facts at hand Hisoka is most likely a psychopath
I am not sure what the next video will be about. I want to analyze the symbolism of the phantom troup, the religious symbols in hunter x hunter, the symbols behind the fights or I might do a video on the amazing Chimera Arc, but I am not sure about that yet, because there are very good videos about the arch already out there.

I finally got a professional microphone but I am a technology noob, that is why I could not create a neat audio yet. I am working on that.

Honestly, I think this is a misdiagnose. Personally, when I see Hisoka, I see a sadomasochistic sociopath that enjoys the adrenaline rush he gets when he finds a worthy enemy to kill or die from and he is completely aware of his emotions (and wants to satisfy them) but in a different way than the average person. The perverted nature of his is "sexual", not because of child rape or anything actually sexual, but because you realize that this character is so addicted to that rush, he would do anything to find characters with the potential to become incredible fighters and then brutally murder them. The stronger the opponent he faces, the more violent he wants to be and the higher that rush and his "perverted nature". Take for example Kastro and Hisoka. When Hisoka realized that Kastro reached his peak, he got somewhat aroused. He was more violent than in other instances because he was a bit interested. Then that reminds the viewer that Hisoka is incredibly attracted to the power Gon could achieve and it makes you terrified and in anticipation of how brutal Hisoka is going to be, how insanely overjoyed he will be. Also, the masochistic nature of Hisoka shines brightly in his fight with Gon. The instant Gon punched him, he felt incredible pleasure, he wants, nay, he loves to be in pain and inflict pain.

Full disclosure: I love Hisoka, all of him. The perversion, the sadism. He's my favorite character hands down. I don't see where pedophilia comes in. He's not turned on at the thought of fighting a child. No, what he sees in Gon and Killua are two talented children who are actually capable of doing well in the hunter exam. To Hisoka, this represents HUGE potential, because usually, people enter the hunter exams in their middle age...and fail. But here are these kids who are smashing through everything, and later become proficient with Nen at a very unnaturally young age (even if the middle-aged people pass the hunter exam, they are unlikely to become proficient with Nen). So it's not the thought of fighting a _child_ that gets him off; it's the thought of fighting (spoilers) basically what Gon becomes in the fight against Pitou. And Gon actually has a similar complex. Even if he's terrified of an impending fight, he gets this adrenaline-fueled _thrill_ out of it. Fear and excitement. That's why when Gon sacrificed his ability to use Nen, I felt really bad for both Gon _and_ Hisoka. Imagine the disappointment Hisoka will feel when he learns about Gon losing his potential. Rivalry-wise, Gon and Hisoka are a match made in heaven, that needs to incubate for a decade, or three. And Hisoka knows this.

I was waiting for this! Very interesting and fun analysis! ^-^ Only thing is that I didn't really find Hisoka disgusting in the whole pedophilia thing since I always thought that he just feels sexual pleasure when fighting opponents that are like rough diamonds and just gets aroused by the fact that they will become someone that might threatens to kill him at some point making it a true fight to the death like Chrollo for example (even though I don't remember him getting aroused during the fight). Though the "staring at Gon n Killua's butt" scene is kinda weird xD Anyways great video and I think trying out new things like putting less graphics isn't gonna make the videos less appealing since you do something totally unique content wise. I personally always figured that Hisoka’s essentially a “fightsexual”. He’s sexually attracted to people who either can, or has the potential to one day be able to, kill him in a fight. The looks, age or gender of that person doesn’t really matter to him at all, because societal conventions at large don’t matter to him at all. So even if that person is a child (like in the case of Gon and Killua), he will still become physically attracted to them because he knows they harbor the potential to one day be able to kill him in a fight. Hence him staring at their butts and generally acting like he’s physically attracted to them. I don’t know if I’d personally label Hisoka a pedophile either. Mostly because he’s not attracted to Gon and Killua because they’re prepubescent children, but instead solely based on their strength and potential. He also shows some level of interest in Machi, Illumi, and Chrollo, so it’s pretty clear that he’s not just interested in children, but rather strong people in general. In the end I think he’s just a thrill seeking, fightsexual murder clown who has both massive sadistic and masochistic tendencies, and doesn’t really fit into any one of our societal labels because he defies convention. This is just my opinion though, as someone who absolutely loves this fucking piece of trash.

Hisoka is my favorite character in HxH he's so unique and iconic his character is complex togashi made an incredible character like hisoka unlike other characters who are shallow if togashi wasn't so lazy we could see him more and we could see his real intenses and his deep self

Actually hisoka is a sociopath, not a psychopath. A psychopath is someone like frank underwood who acts normally and is charismatic but can commit atrocious acts and not care. Chrollo can't be diagnosed at the moment as there's not enough information. However I feel your right in classifying him a sociopath. But I would argue an advanced sociopath, who pursues what interests him but is so logical that he won't just follow his impulse.

Thanks for the video.. I have to say, being a big Hisoka fan, I have been impatiently waiting for it ever since I saw your previous HxH video. I enjoyed your analysis and I felt that your reasoning was great. The one aspect of Hisoka that I found hard to get past was his attraction to Gon and Killua's tails. Up to that point I felt that his attraction to them (while problematic due to their age) was based solely on their potential as combatants.

i really enjoyed your videos. you really analyze the characters and it interesting to see others perspectives. Unlike what many people believe, I don't find Hisoka to be a pedophile but more of an adrenaline junkie. He gets high off fighting powerful people and then destroying them. Kinda like how thrill seekers enjoy skydiving and that pleasure of success when they touch the ground alive. its heart racing and rewarding that they achieved another obstacle. which fits into the psychopath diagnosis. So for Hisoka, It doesn't matter the age or gender of the person, he is just seeking the next high. However, I also agree with your diagnosis and reasoning. I don't think I've ever seen Hisoka show physical or emotional pain let alone any remorse. He just doesn't have the ability. Do you think he was born as such or something happened in his past that set him over the edge? Illumi next??? :)

I think there is no way to explain the phenomenon with general statements like I did with yaoi. because yuri is much more diverse in its topics and its readers, than yaoi. so I don't think I will do a video on that.
