I just finished watching the video that's about 40 minutes in. It's my favorite short film, but I think it's considered a cult film that is also a cult film.

It could be said of cults and of course more so of every religion that warm and fuzzy fantasies can provide psychological comfort whereas the of hard edge of reality does not.

some of these key weakness high lights are exactly the opposite of the waypoint markers for being adopted or screwed with by some groups that participate in cult like behaviour

I believe it's very important to make distinctions between destructive cults and beneficial/benign ones. As one very well-known cult leader (allegedly) once said: "by their fruits ye will know them."

@it's just me . . . and there you are! the defining criterion of a cult. Its enemies, or questioners will be punished - terminally. Add to the criteria. Look in the mirror, and find a cultist.

Sounds like the country in general - one where individuals want someone else to think for them

Zona Gakkai groups can have cultic behaviours. If you are interested in Buddhism or Meditation, better look to Insight Society centers in your area or write to the Tibet House, or Ten Thousands Buddhas temple to get some addresses. Anyway you have to have open eyes and Sharp mind and It takes time to trust a church, group, or association.

27:58: You mispronounced the word "ecumenical." It's pronounced _ek-you-men-ical,_ and it refers to efforts to bring different churches and religious groups together under a common banner. So, for example, in Christianity, ecumenism would refer to attempts to unite Protestants, Catholics and the Orthodox into a single church somehow. 33:26: Jerry Falwell was never a member of the Westboro Baptist Church. He was a Southern Baptist, which is a completely different thing. 35:46: Not exactly. It's possible both to believe that smoking is bad for you, _and not care that it's bad for you, or to believe that the pleasure you get from smoking is worth the damage to your health._ In that case, there's no conflict and no cognitive dissonance involved in smoking and believing that smoking is bad for you.
