I think a neat detail about Rebecca is that her brother was killed by someone going through cyberpsychosis and instead of rejecting someone going through a similar condition, she reaches out and tries to help David. I think that's one of the most human moments in the show

When you get down to it the show is very human. It’s young love, young tragedy. It’s pains and emotions a lot of people go through early in life and sometimes before you even have the time to learn your lesson it’s over.

My favorite moment with Rebecca had to be when she was walking home with David and she asks him why he froze up in the middle of a firefight. It gets to a point where she tells him he needs to cut back on the cyberware and playfully remarks that she’s got chrome enough to protect them both. David starts to give a dismissive reply, but then Rebecca IMMEDIATELY cuts him off by saying in a stark, almost commanding tone, “I’m serious.” That was the moment I realized that the show’s writers hadn’t written her with the intention of just becoming a meme or simple comedic relief. She was, as others here have said, a genuine ride-or-die friend. Yes she has a crush on him and, yes, she knows she can’t have him. But damn her if she won’t tear the world apart to make sure that the man she genuinely loves comes out okay.
@ghostchannel4766
@ghostchannel4766 Жыл бұрын
Something that helps sell that moment is the framing of the scene, too. During the entire walk (and many other scenes) it's hammered home how small she is. David (at least post time skip) is shown as large. Though he only takes up the space of the direction he is walking in. But when we get that line, the camera abruptly cuts to Rebecca taking up the entire frame. When she's serious, she's more commanding.

In my experience, it is reversed. Funny because it seems like most of the fans support Rebecca more than Lucy. Not hating on Rebecca other than the fact that she is only a few steps away from being a loli which weirds me out. Rebecca is a great friend and a great part of the crew while Lucy abandons the crew after they lose the leadership. However Rebecca needs someone to ground her while Lucy is fully independent. Having to be the grounding rod for someone is exhausting and can pull away from who you are as an individual -- many people desire this for some reason. Yes, Lucy and David both lied to each other and kept secrets. Those are flaws they had for each other. If they were both more open and communicated properly they could have had different outcomes.

I think Rebecca represents the human experience to an extreme degree. Every emotion she feels is so vibrant and bursts from her. Shes in complete contrast to the dreary soulless machine that is Night City. Whatever emotions she feels she feels it to the Nth degree. The final episode was so sad especially from Rebeccas POV. She truly loved David, probably more than Lucy did, but deep down she knew that it wasnt reciprocated from David in the same way. She put her feelings second and realized they needed Lucy because she knew that she was the only one who could bring David back from the brink of losing his humanity. Everyone focuses on David and Lucys relationship because they are star crossed lovers but i think what I just described was the most altruistic form of true love ive seen in modern media.

I'd do anything to have a girl support me the way Rebecca supports and loves David. I've told people countless times in my life that true love is loyalty and sacrifice. I learned this during my time in the marine corps. The people who REALLY love you are willing to die for you. They're willing to suffer with you. They consider your happiness and success an extension of their own. They won't abandon you even if you're at rock bottom. They are 100% ride or die. Most modern-day relationships and friendships treat people as disposable. Tinder swipes and fairweather friends being the most egregious examples. Someone who loves you won't leave for greener pastures or a better deal. They don't have a plan B. They have a Plan You. It's almost sad when you realize this, since it brings the epiphany that so few people in the world truly love us. The average person might know the love of their parents and siblings...maybe a close friend or two. However, true romantic love is very rare in the world. For people who have ever known true love, It's an all-consuming and beautiful experience. One that's so impossible to replicate that it leaves you feeling isolated and empty when/if you lose that person. With all that said, I feel like too many people in the world today throw around the word "love" with casual disregard for its true meaning. Thanks for covering this topic and insight into Rebecca by the way. I agree with your message that she is a perfect example of true love. I feel like more people need to see these examples so they can avoid toxic relationships and find empathy and connection with others.

One thing that also hurts about Rebecca is that we don't get time to really mourn her death. With all the other characters, the show takes its time, and the viewer has the chance to accept that they're gone, even with Pilar. But with Becca, we don't get that time because the story can't afford it, there's too much going on. We just have to try and accept it as best we can.

My favorite thing about Becca is that she is the only one who actually, really takes the time to call out David when he starts to take it too far. The "No sandevestan" *david immediately uses Sandevestan* "asshole" moment really was the moment I was rooting for her to live, even knowing that Night City takes everyone. She was a damn good choom.

I can think of no media, not book, not TV show, not game, not another anime, that has gotten me SO emotionally invested so quickly, and then subsequently so thoroughly crushed my soul to such a degree. I will without hesitation say that it's a great anime, but I can't decide if I hate it or love it. I felt so empty and sad after it ended, and I still get that tightening in my chest when I think about it. The show is a true masterwork for me. It spoke to me on a level I don't think media can normally reach in me.

something i realized as to rebeccas danger sense and i dont know if you looked into this but in the world of cyberpunk quite litrally 98% of the body is replacable like clothing the only thing is if the brain is damaged or lack of fluids (like bleed out from extremedies ) thats the only real way to die or be hurt , i mean david im fairly certain was about 90% chrome by the end before the exo skeleton , so i wonder how that can affect people behavior / survival sense if all limbs are changeable like clothes ?

Hands feet eyes ears arnt really a concern but you start to replace spine, immune system, artificial adrenaline increasing the connection with nervous system and cybernetics? Fan Epilogue: David walks in a white room and sat on a white luxury sofa. Beside him was the already sitted Rebecca chilling while sipping a cocktail. It took a few seconds before someone broke the deafening silence. "He got you too, huh?" David paused and nodded with a small gloom on his face. "Yeah.." Rebecca finally sat up and looked at his eyes. His eyes were fixed on the white wall a few feet across the room. A small cloud loomed inside the room but somehow, David didn't budge. Until he felt someone warm on his shoulder when he finally snapped out from his trance, it was Rebecca resting her head on his right shoulder. David could only stare at her. Her head smelled like Lavender. "David?" she mumbled but pushed through. "Can I stay like this, just for a while?" David finally broke a gentle smile and leaned on her for a bit. "Yeah.. Sure." Rebecca peacefully fell asleep.

Rebecca was a ride or die friend for David. Yes, she loved him and yes, she was rejected but this isn't something she focused on, she didn't focus on trying to "win" David from Lucy. She respected David loved Lucy and she knew Lucy loved David. All she wanted was for David to be happy and that's true love: it doesn't matter if they choose you in the end, as long as they're happy and safe that's all that matters to you. Part of me is happy she went out before David, I'm not sure I could have dealt with her reaction to his death. It would've been heartbreaking.

I think Rebecca being offed was very…. Heart breaking and painful for me. It hurt a lot even and to be honest ruined my entire night when seen DESPITE knowing it were to come soon. What frustrates me is how she truly loved David to the point she would die for him at all costs just to keep him happy like a good real friend would do. Every time i think of the anime i say “Lucy never deserved David” because she didn’t. She wasn’t there for him. She didn’t tell him to lay off the juice unlike Rebecca did. It makes you wonder how things would have turned out if they got together… yet again, in the end David chose his self destructive path from the start that i don’t think anyone could have had helped him avoid that and only makes the tragic story all the more aching.

From my point of view, Rebecca is a loyal friend with boundless empathy in the same way that Jackie is with V, ready to involved themselves in situations or adventures whose outcomes may have irreversible consequences such as their own death, in order to help their loved ones 🥲. Be that as it may, as soon as we mention the way their relationship as friends ended, tears and a kind of emotional shock seize me personally in a quite systematic and sustainable way 😢. Even though, I don't always have their positivity as much as I would like. I really, as they do, do my best to help the people I care about and the people who get my empathy's attention. I wish to all those who will read this commentary, to find someone like Jackie or Rebecca as a friend or soul mate to face what the future holds, especially in the hardest and darkest times in our lives 🤞. May they rest in peace and continue to watch over their loved ones who are still among the living, as our unfortunate deceased loved ones probably still do. . . ❤‍🔥

My autistic self identified so strongly with Rebecca. The major difference between how I view the similarities is she's an extrovert, I'm not, but her intense hyperfocus on the well-being of those around her, choosing the happiness of others over her own, etc. It reminds me so much of my friend group that it hurts (Most of us are autistic)

Lucy is the girl we want but Rebecca is the girl we need. It takes maturity and wisdom to see and appreciate someone like Rebecca. She is in this love triangle were she is treated like a pet, … loved yes, but not taken seriously or be valuable enough to be a love interest. Yet Rebecca adores David to the most, not only having a crush on him but also having a very deep devotion towards David as well. She is even giving in and goes after Lucy even if Lucy is her rival but she is willing to sacrifiece her chance to get closer to David just to save David and heal him up (mentally) as much as possible. Rebecca reminds me of these heroine characters from the antiquities but rewritten in the 19th century in the age of romanticism. Being hopelessly in love in someone but unable to fulfill her desires or being unwanted or experiencing an unfulfilled love. Absolutely tragic especially how she meets her end. She deserved better. She is/was a true friend and a fiercly loyal partner in crime to the bitter end. By the way I absolutely love the neck paint and costume, great as always!! 🌟

I think it would be interesting to go over her personality and the reason she may have developed it. My thoughts about her is that I feel like her extreme personality is compensation for her short height with everyone treating her like a kid because of it and her general appearance. By acting more violent and foul-mouthed she appears more adult which leads her to behave that way. I never heard anyone else talk about it or see it that way tbh but I think it's an interesting way to think about her.
