Inside Out has been my great breakthru in understanding my own emotions as an undiagnosed autistic adult (I wasn't diagnosed when the movie was out). While it obviously simplifies, it's given me the base structure of seeing my emotions as cariers of information.

I remembered years ago of extreme bright light from the ground when I was two years old. It was on a boardwalk, rather famous as a tourist site. As an adult I understood that at that age, my vision is much closer to the ground and the sunlight reflected would have filled my entire line of sight. 😅 Not every memory has to have a strong emotional component. It is what it is.

6:13 the Pixar team who made inside out did consider putting “reason” in as a character, but they decided against it becauce 1: reasons not an emotion and 2:they wanted to give more agency to riley as a character! So i guess they decided to put the central cognition in the outside riley? Though we dont get to see that a lot in the movie!
@samuelalmeida6479
@samuelalmeida6479 6 ай бұрын
I feel that Reason could make the movie too "heavy" and take away the sense of adventure in Joy and Sadness journey. Also, Riley indeed showed reason in a decente amount of scenes, finding a way to act while the emotions where in conflict. That was nice to watch since we don't "turn down" emotions when acting rationally.

As far as I know the two systems aren't working seperated from one another. So you don't "use" just the second system to make an important/complex decision and you don't just rely on system one for an impulsive reaction. Emotion is always there, at least in the background, as are other functions of our brain.

Something cool yet impossible to add would be temperament. As it’s not attached to any emotion in particular. But it would be fantastic to teach the control of emotions without supressing them.

I have a feeling that she will develop it in movie 2, especially with the adition of Anxiety. Not as a character I guess but using Riley herself.

What a weird set of comments you have today! I haven't seen this movie since it came out.. how many years ago? So memory isn't great, but I thought it was entertaining. It's individual characters inside your mind playing emotions and computers, etc. It's a fun play on this type of thing, but I never took it literally or even close. There was an earlier TV show called Herman's Head that kind of had the same basic scenario, but it wasn't as serious - it was a sitcom. There's also this type of therapy called Internal Family Systems, which in some ways does something similar - it imagines different parts of your personality. They aren't mapped to different emotions but to different roles or characters that you adopt in various situations.

For some reason, I found myself becoming "stoic" around my late 20s. Now, this came after hospitalizations for my very accurate diagnosis of bipolar 1 disorder. (A time where i used to forget to sleep.) Also ater meeting the love of my life!! Then losing her in a very sudden and unexpected situation. Losing our two kids while entering the prison sentence phase of my life. (I call it that, because i went to prison) Getting out of prison to acquire a alcohol and drug problem. Which miraculously ended!! Riiiight around the time I started caring for my dad as he died. Then came finding my kids. Id lost complete contact with them and only understood why, when i discovered my biological mother - only God knows how - had custody of my kids. I never knew my bio mom other then when I was abandoned by her as a baby. only met her when I was 21, and she essentially held me captive in her moms house. I only reliezed i was her captive when i kept getting violently ill every time i was supposed to fly home. It turned out she was putting large doses of her prescription meds in water bottles and giving them to me in hopes id get too sick to make it to the airport. But this is a different story. We'll, getting my kids home to me, and away from her was tough. It was tbe roughest thing I've endured. This fight lasted two years before i won by the skin on my ass... And for some reason all this, and alot more within the in-between of those lines, I found a way to feel content. Albeit, often content these days with loneliness and struggle. But still, I'm comfortable in my saddened time, and discontented years where heart break, death and lose felt like it couldn't end. Sometimes I miss the never ending pain and victory I found in my hardened 20s. Sometimes I miss my father, and I hear my wife's voice at the edge of a dream fading into wakefulness. I always have to go and see my kids asleep in their beds to ensure that I didn't make them finally with me. But these nights, I feel calm on the presupposes of hell, and love my nightmares.
