The Pulitzer Prize - Icons of their time

THIS VIDEO:The Pultzer prize is one of the most prestigious photography awards. Every year since 1942 impactful photographs have been chosen because of the dramatic stories they tell. Many of the award winners are fairly gruesome so I won’t be able to display those on KZbin. I’ll talk about the stories behind some of the images - what the broader contexts were leading up to the moment the picture was taken and also what has been revealed about the events after the award was presented. ABOUT ME: The conversations focus on topics related to different aspects of photography including: art, documentary and photojournalism. A wonderful view into Pulitzer images. I am struck by the serendipity of moments in which these photos are captured. Nobody goes out to capture a prize winner. They just did their job and we are awarded with the results.

My grandfather was a freelance journalist and early news photographer through wars. What he did had always interested me, though for several reasons - like wartime disasters - I saw little of it. Unfortunately after his death his large archive, mostly large format film and also glass plates, was stolen from my aunt so I never really got to browse through more than a few fascinating remnants apart from his recreational and family work. His work never achieved this kind of acclaim as far as I know but he was successful in his profession. Your summary and overview is interesting with your chosen examples from the best in what might be thought the most important aspect of photography.

These were images every photographer wishes to be part of..it is a true life success. It is a passion many paid with their own lives..it is worth it when done for the better of humanity. I wish life's destiny took me there.. Great sacrifices. Love it.
