👏👏👏 Magnificent puzzle and solve I wish Mark had shown that the _"gooooorgeous"_ and _"actually amaaaaazing"_ logic he used to rule out 1-2-3-4 from *r4c6* could be used again, with little adjustments, to rule out 1-2-3-4 from *r7c3.* I am sure that was your intended path. But I did the opposite mistake❗🤪 It was truly a goooooorgeous and amaaaaazing idea, magnificently implemented to magically reveal two _"weird"_ naked singles. 👏👏👏👏

I enjoyed watching you solve this very much, Mark, every minute of it. I love that you employ parity in unexpected moments in these puzzles, and always make me wish I were more aware of it. But I actually am getting to the point where I think about it more often (though not always because it is a good thought - yet - that will come!). Tonight's interesting vocabulary was 'recondite', which is a word I am never certain how to pronounce. Thanks for demonstrating it's meaning and pronunciation tonight, Mark!

Around 11:11 Mark found that clever chain giving a 7. In a slightly simpler way this pattern can be used in the other direction too! R7C3 stands to force its value into both cages in B5 if it's a 1234. So it must be 5. No diagonal involved in that direction.

I didn't see how to get the 7 in box 5 for myself, but after you showed how to do it I then applied the same logic on similar cells in that box and it made the rest of the puzzle a little easier.

More or less the same here. I didn't spot that 7, but when I saw Mark do it, I wondered, why he didn't apply the same logic to the other cells in the diagonal. Brains are strange sometimes.

The argument placing the 7 in r4c6 applies equally well to the diagonal in box 5 to rule out 1234. It took me quite a while to realize that though.

Yes, all on the diagonal in box5 can’t be 1234. Makes the puzzle easier. I saw it immediately after Mark saw it for the 7. Kudos to Mark to not needing that and powering through.

Wow, loved that logic between the box 5 diagonal cells and box 7, the way things would bounce around to eliminate 1234. Took me a while to see it when I was stuck, but it was a joy to find. 27:51 solve time.

I think the step Mark skated around and never quite spotted, that would have helped a lot, was that no low digit (1234) could go on the diagonal in box 5, due to the interaction of the 15 and 16 cages, and the diagonal into box 7.

9:48 Yes Mark, there is an easier way finding the 6. Basically just look at row 7, and consider where the high numbers go... they can't all go in the 9th, hence 6 is indeed there in the eighth

Flippin heck. I’ve just spent over 6 hours (not consecutive), couple of restarts, brain ache inducing exasperation on this one. Some are a breeze, I just could not spot the clues on this one, but I shall not cheat! Felt like a brute force solve in the end.

Tricksy little devil this one. That 7 deduction in box 5 was very nice, just a shame it didn't really lead anywhere! My path diverged from Mark's and I found r4c9 very helpful.

Surprised Mark kept the purple and green colors around as long as he did. Normally he’d get rid of that sort of thing early. Good solve!

True. Surprisingly, he kept colours around longer than needed in the previous puzzle as well (Tie Those Thermos, by Sayori). And he was surprised himself by how much they slowed him down: _"I wasn't seeing that... Clearing out the colouring sometimes does the business. That is bizarre"_

I have seen both Mark and Simon getting excited about potential "3 in the corner" and I do not understand the significance or the confetti when one is found. All I can think of is that it is a reference to "Losing My Religion" by R.E.M. where the song goes "That's me in the corner..." Anyone know what this might actually be about?

6:00 I got some help from Mark's noticing that if block 8's 15-cage is 78, the two cells to the right must be 59. I'd already established that the 15-cage had to be 78, because 69 breaks the 10-cage in block 9. 10:30 That comment in the video just now is about where I'm stuck. 22:00 It took me a very long time, but I finished the puzzle. There's a domino that I colored, that is forced into several positions. It's white in this grid. R6C12 must be the same as R78C3 which is R4C45, and one of which is in R7C456 which is pointing at R7C3. One of the domino is 5, but it can't be in R7C456. Therefore R7C3 is 5. That leads to a couple other things: R8C9 is 5 and 5 is in box 3's 10-cage. The 10-cage can't be 145 because a 14 sees both 14s in column 1. It must be 235. R89C4, the light-blue cell and the 123-cell above it, are forced into the domino in the 16-cage in block 5 with the light-blue flare. Now, where can that 123-cell be on the diagonal? If it's 23, nowhere. The 123-cell must be 1 and in the orange cell on the diagonal at the corner. Light-blue is 4. 32:20 Where is red on the diagonal? 37:20 The 123-cell I mentioned above, R8C4, where is it in block 5? Then where is it on the diagonal? (Again, if it's 2 or 3, it can't go on the diagonal.) 45:00 That argument looks correct for yellow. And it is. So the cell pointed at (R7C2) must be light-blue and 4.

At around 9:30, why can’t the 6 in box 8 be in the purple domino? I don’t get why Mark immediately places the 6 (as a “green 6”) in the 16 cage? Thx for explaining 😊

Mark got it by thinking about where the last green digit could go in box 8. He doesn't know it's a 6 initially, just that it's a high digit. He's able to deduce it (green) has to go in the 16 cage at the top of box 8. That fixes it as a 6 simply because 7,8,9 do not appear in the 16 cage.

because of the '15' pairs, 9 has to go with 6 in the colouring, and the green cell in box 8 is already restricted to being 7, 8 or 9, so you'd have a green 9 with a green 7 or 8.
