Never realised that this puzzle was done here too. Just found it today. :-) While setting the sudokus for the WSC, I had the 7x7 theme in mind already early on. I was looking for a good combination of clustering a handfull of digits in one corner of the grid and leave it to that. The combination of toroidal and odds worked very well. My intended solving path was a bit different though (but I can't really recall since I wrote it more than a year ago and in the mean time I created quite a bunch of other puzzles.

I’m actually really proud of coming in just over 20 mins on this one when usually I’m much closer to double the time of the video! I made the observation that in row 7 column 2 you can’t place an even digit as then it has no possibilities in the shape to its right when the 6 is in to set up the 24 pair a bit quicker. As others have said, your presentation is always brilliant and the time is no issue, it’s actually more interesting to me at least to see how long you ponder and where your thoughts track next!
@12tone5 жыл бұрын
This was a beautiful one. Only needed a couple observations to crack but they were _really_ hard to find. On the 3s at the end, you can also observe that column 4 is the only place in row 6 that can have it, if that logic feels easier: the pointing pair eliminates c1, there's already a 3 elsewhere in c2, there's a 6 placed in c3, and then c5-7 are ruled out by the 3 in the top.

17:20 That was identifiable much easier than that. On row six, the first column couldn’t have a three because of the pencil marks, the second would contradict the other three in column two, the third column already has a six, the fifth column is in a shape that contains a three, the sixth is already filled by a four and the seventh is blocked by the other three in column seven. Four was the only possible spot.

15:04 if you put a 3 in r2c4 you will need to put a 3 in r5c3 too. That makes it impossible to put a 3 in the central box. Therefore r2c4 is a 7. That breaks the puzzle too.
@Qazqi5 жыл бұрын
Funny enough, what cracked it for me was what you did with the 3s at 12:22. I had all the 4s and 6s, almost all the 2s, and the 3 in the bottom left, which I knew had to be useful, but I missed the obvious and got super stuck. One thing I found myself doing a couple times before then (e.g., as an alternative to what you did with the 2s) was a sort of finned X-wing, but rather than only eliminating cells that see both, taking the fin and running with it to see if it eliminated other cells along the X-wing rows or columns.

@BrunoBarcelosAlves5 жыл бұрын
@@Falk_René_Skamiera Yeah, as he was solving it I realized that the most significant constraint is not that the grey squares must be odd, but rather that the even numbers must be in white squares.

took me 30:14 to complete. now watching you solve it at 8:22 you were wondering if you could use R7C2 and you couldn't find anything quickly at that point but you could have used it actually. You eliminated 4 as an option noticing it had to go into row 2 of that shape and 6 was next to it but you also had a 157 triple left in row 1so the only 2 options left were 2 and 3. Now try to put a 2 there at that point and put a 2 in the box next to it and you will see you can't due to the grey cells.

One tip I found, not magic but it got me a few digits: Since the grey squares are restricted to {1,3,5,7}, try to find other squares that see all of {2,4,6} so that you have a lot of squares restricted to {1,3,5,7}.
@Tehom15 жыл бұрын

The puzzle wasn't too difficult. That said, I was 11 times slower than championship pace and just over 3 times slower than your pace, coming in at exactly 55 minutes. I probably could have done it in half the time if the cages were easier to see. I constantly had to highlight the cages to visualize them because on my screen the cage lines were barely differentiated from the cell lines in quite a few areas. If the puzzle was in a different arrangement (not geometrically similar/mirrored) this puzzle would have been a real nightmare. In retrospect I probably should have just colored each cage a different color, lol. Oh, well. Also, I did waste a few minutes because I didn't see the pattern with the 2s. Instead I saw the 4 pattern when that only half unlocked I moved on to the odd digits instead. I did rather enjoy the challenge though. Unique, beautiful puzzles like this are great fun!
