Pep brought 2 mandrakes on turn 7. If you buy 2 chits they have to be different ingredients. Love the play through! Quacks is a weird one, it seems so random but you have control. It’s like riding a rabid hamster!

I don't think it had a major influence on the outcome, but I'm 95% certain that you resolve the event card BEFORE determining how many rat tails each player receives each round. This matters when the event provides points or otherwise impacts rat tails.

you were right; although i didn't know the rules at all at the beginning, by the end i understood about 95% of it. And it looks really fun (until you draw all your cherry bombs in the beginning :p ), i was cheering for rodney until the very end!

Great video. One question I have about the gameplay is that you need to be very trusting of each player when you are drawing rounds 1 thru 8. I know you have the option of playing the tokens like you would in the final round but, as you said, it would make it a much longer and maybe less fun game. Thanks for teaching us all how to play :)

Glad you enjoyed! When you say you have to be "very trusting", in which way do you mean? Because someone might draw a bad token out of their bag and then put it back in? Yes, cheaters would not be fun to have at the table, but I suppose that is true in many games.

@@WatchItPlayed I would say that you are so involved in playing your own tokens that other players could take advantage of that and replace not so good tokens back in the bag. I would like to think I don't play with people who would cheat but in the heat of the battle so to speak, who knows what might happen. Thanks for replying. After watching this, I wonder where the line is drawn between kennerspiel and spiel des jahres? I don't see how this couldn't be a game for the whole family that the spiel des jahres is supposed to be. Yet this won the "expert/connoisseur" game of the year. It seems like there is a lot of chance in the mechanics of this for that particular award. Azul won the spiel in the same year and has less chance and awards strategy and can be more cutthroat. It seems an odd designation for these games in 2018. What do you all think?

I think you made a great point! The cynical me would say that in a different year, Quacks would have been in the regular Spiel category since in difficult/strategy/weight, it's on the same level (maybe even less) than Azul. Also, according to BGG, Quacks is a family game, and the gameplay shows that is indeed the case. Given there is the Spiel, the Kinderspiel, and the Kennerspiel, perhaps we are less a decade away before they introduce the Expertenspiel, specifically targeting heavy weight, and longer games. I would think the reason why Azul should win the Spiel des Jahres is a no-brainer since it's an abstract game that is very popular. In some ways, it more a direct inheritor of the award than many of the other recent winners. I believe the second winner of the Spiel des Jahres was Rummikub so really the only home for an abstract game of this sort would be the original award and not the "connoisseur" one (at least now, it seems board gamer fans are not fans of abstract games as a whole taking BGG ratings as a metric). So that would explain why Azul and Quacks would be categorized the way they were even though the weights and target audience would imply otherwise. As a point of quibble, the first award is not technically a "family" category, but rather a general/overall category, while the other awards were added when it started to seem unfair (and difficult to rate/compare) to have otherwise great children's or gamer's games go head-to-head with something that has a more general appeal, which happens to often target families. Also I would guess, since the title of the other award is "Kenner…" and not "Experten…," it's closer meaning is to connoisseur than expert. So the award makers doesn't really direct that the weight of the game has to be above a certain amount, but rather that a "connoisseur" would appreciate it, which Quacks definitely has that feel since the press your luck mechanic (being attributed to party or brainless games) in the game is a very difficult thing to balance in such a way that a gamer would still love to play it. I that way, I think Quacks deserved its nomination, because its execution broadens its appeal into gamer's gamer - for instance.

It occurs to me that before they split of the Kennerspiel des Jahres from the Spiel, there were times when the judges would award a "Special Prize" to games that today would have won the Kennerspiel had it existed (ex. Agricola in 2008). Last year, Pandemic Legacy Season 2 got such a prize. So my joke about us being a decade away from the "Expertenspiel des Jahres" may not be entirely wrong. A few more times when a heavy weight or long game wins a special prize, and we'll have it. And then future historians will be arguing on whether or not Gloomhaven would have won it had they not had that category. Lol!

With quarriors qultimate quedition coming out I would love to see a watch it played on that game so it will be easier to teach people do play without feeling overwhelmed I remember the dice masters videos and how much fun you guyz had and im sure I'm not the only person that would enjoy watching a playthrough

I was thinking about this the other day. Why don't more people sit on the same side of the table when playing a two player game? I know some games dictate they sit across from each other but why make one person look at the board upside down?

I've done this occasionally, where hidden cards in hand is less of an issue, but some of it can be about wanting more personal/gaming space if it's possible.

I love live playing! Do it more! Im thinking buying this game and it wasnt at mt list at all! Looks very fun. Have to say as a feedback that the split screen makes me some headache becuase the proportions mixing between your heads and hands. Please consider making only one screen, or a full pictureof you but as tiny on the corner.. something like that. Thanks!

At 0:24. the event card is "The Pot is Full" which is an end of round fortune giving the players two die rolls instead of one.

At 12.38 ish you both roll the dice because you ended on the same spot. Don't the rules say that the player that has come the furthest from the droplet only rolls unless that's also the same?
