The Quaint Tyrone Square Mall in St. Petersburg, FL

Join me I tour Tyrone Square in St. Pete, FL. This mall is your very basic, Simon run property. While nothing to write home about, it gets the job done and seems well attended. Plus, getting here from Tampa is a fabulous drive.

I worked at Tyrone square mall in the mid 80’s for Butler shoes and Red Cross shoes. It’s nice to see that it’s still going when so many malls have closed down.

I haven't been to a mall in FL for a very long time. Back in the 80s I used to go to Gulf View Square, Countryside, or another one whose name escapes me. I never heard of Tyrone Square. Now that I live in the Tampa area again I'll give it a look. Thanks for the video!

Man, this hits the nostalgia spot. I grew up in St. Pete in the late 80s and the 90s. I loved going to Tyrone and have so many great memories there. I went back a couple years ago and grabbed lunch with my sister at the Ruby Tuesday there and was happy to see it was still doing so well compared to so many other malls these days. Thanks for showing my childhood some love!

Right down the street from the Tyrone square mall, is the Chad square mall !!! Little girls grow up and become big girls, and these big girls love both Tyrone and Chad !!!!

Hey there! This is my local mall and have watched it evolve. The former Sears was actually completely torn down after the store's closure in 2017, and was redeveloped into the strip shopping plaza that it is today. That is why it's so long. Hope this helps!

Great video! If I’m not mistaken, this is the mall where that Sears employee was there for almost 50 years. Pretty crazy.

This mall was originally built and operated by DeBartolo before Simon purchased it in the 1990s, much like it's younger sister, Bay Park Square in Ashwaubenon (Green Bay), Wisconsin, a shopping mall that opened in October 1980 after twenty years worth of delays and changes in land ownership, its two original anchors, Montgomery Ward (later Younkers, now Steinhafel's Furniture), opened in 1972 and a ShopKo discount store (now a Hy-Vee supermarket) opened in 1979, predating the mall's completion by a few years...

I like that brutalist Dillard's and JCPenney. I think I slightly prefer the look of its brutalist Dillard's, but JCPenney has a brutalist feel here too. The ceiling look in the mall hallways vaguely reminds me of Washington Square in Indianapolis. I do wonder if Simon bothered to remodel this mall and didn't give up on that mall, if it'd look more like this? No doubt Washington Square in Indy probably would look bland today, if Simon had held on to that mall.

In less than 3 years the mall will be shut down for new development i. e. Apartments and Condos. Affordable housing for the rich..
