The Quarter Past Strike at Nottingham City Council House

The bells strike the quarter past of the hour. These bells are located in the Great Dome of Nottingham City Council House, in Market Square of the city of Nottingham, United Kingdom. The picture shows the 1st and 4th Quarter Jack, which weighs just over 3 tons and was cast by John Taylor & Co in 1928.

I went to Big Ben on a tower tour and was stood about 5 feet from a 10ft bell at 12.! OUCH!

I believe the hammer on one of the bells is the 1st quarter jack which is muffled because the hammer hit it too hard. They put a suede pad on it to keep it from hitting it too hard.

Probably just resting on the bell after striking without rebounding. Spring might need adjustment

I don't think it's the spring or a pad I think it's the rope connected to the hammer. I think they tightened it so it's too short and stops the hammer before it hits instead of when it has hit. the fix? loosen the rope a little

From memory no. All the bells, including Little John (hour bell) have only one hammer. They haven't been ringing for a few months, and only recently started back up again. I swear they have modified the clappers as Little John is no where near as loud as she used to be, and has lost some of her boom. No doubt so dumbass complained about the noise....

@bellminsterboy Well. Lets see. If you has checked my other videos you would have seen that I managed to record these striking 10am, including Little John. Big Ben, although heavier, is not as deep, and neither is it a very good bell! Frankly its shit! What happens when you go to Shitecrappel. Plus I have had the good fortune to swing Great Peter at York Minster by hand for several morning services, which is the largest manually swung bell in the country! So: MUURRRHHH!!! :-p
