The other thing you need to know, to really appreciate this video, is that the question of what the Queen kept in her handbag was a long-standing mystery and joke in the UK. She didn't need money, though rumour had it that she kept cash in there for the collection when she went to church on Sundays, maybe she needed a spare lace handkerchief in case the royal nose leak... no, it wouldn't dare. She didn't have a passport or a driving licence, and she always had a lady-in-waiting to carry everything else she might need... so what was in the handbag? Of course... a marmalade sandwich! And now we know that the Queen knew that we all joked about it and joined in the joke.

Paddington is rather humorously known - in some circles - as the new 'Grim Reaper', because when anyone famous or beloved dies, someone always creates sentimental artwork of Paddington taking them by the hand and leading them into heaven.

Apparently no-one else in the Royal Family was told about this, so they all saw it for the first time on the large screens at the same time as the large crowds and were clearly delighted especially the younger ones. A year after her passing videos like this still make me choked up!

When The Queen passed away people left Paddington Bears as a tribute to Her Majesty outside Buckingham Palace and some of the other royal residences. To which I believe each one was professionally cleaned and passed on to children via charities and organisations.

@@SoGal_YT Kings Cross railway station was built first by a Railway Company and by British standards it's big , so before work started on the Paddington station next door the architect asked the chairman what was the size going to be , the chairman said pointing at Kings Cross " bigger than that with a hotel " . A while back they proposed to knock down Paddington Station and build a new station / hotel but everyone said that it had to be kept , luckily common sense won.

That made me tear up. Partly because i'm far from my home town and country. Partly because the queen reminds of my grans who past away in 2013 age 99 and 2015 age 100. She got a card from the queen. Gosh. i didn't expect that emotion. Thanks a lot for reminding me.

Even though this was a little over a year ago, I still tear up watching it. Especially since we have only just had the first anniversary of The Queen's passing . It's always been a matter of conjecture what The Queen kept in her handbag, so to see her take out a marmalade sandwich really tickled me. 😂 This and The Queen with James Bond at opening ceremony of the London Olympics are two of my favourite videos.

Paddington Bear was named after Paddington Station, which is the London Terminus of the Great Western Railway. Paddington was originally one of the small medieval villages to the west of London. And, what's more important, I was born there.

Hi Sarah! The original Paddinton was an animated show that was about 5 mins long traditionally shown at the end of afternoon children's TV at around 5.55 pm before the Six o'Clock News in the 70s. The style was a bit unusual because Paddington was a stop-motion puppet, where as the other characters were cardboard cut-outs. There were quite a few of these 5 min programmes, including Roobarb (one of the best TV theme tunes ever!), Ivor the Engine, The Magic Roundabout (a French show with English narration by Eric Thompson, Emma Thompson's father), The Wombles and The Clangers. The last one you might be interested in taking a look at, as it was a whimsical show set on The Moon (I pretty much love everything that The Late Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin; the creators of The Clangers and Ivor the Engine, did!).

Happy to see you back and not letting a pesky viral infection come between you and your channel, SoGal! Watching the sketch again, you can tell it was prepared some time before the Jubilee celebrations: the Queen looked as she had done up until the end of 2021, but when she made her actual appearances during the Jubilee weekend, she looked much more frail, emaciated and weakened. I think we all suspected she was not in the best of health and that we might even be seeing her for the last times, though we obviously had no way of knowing it would be just three months until she would be gone... Those of us who remember her mother hoped perhaps that the Queen might make it to the same age (nearly 102) and some of us thought that in the meantime she might do as her late husband Prince Philip had done, retiring from public duties and delegating more to the other royals, though still available to the PM / Cabinet / Privy Council. It just wasn't to be, and knowing now that she was probably in quite some pain trying to move about (she had needed a cane to walk since October 2021), perhaps it was a mercy that she passed away when she did. There was a follow-up to this sketch in the wake of her death, though it looked fan-made rather than official, showing Paddington standing outside the darkened Palace in the pouring rain, looking up at it with tears in his eyes, remembering his tea with the Queen and saddened by her passing so soon afterwards. It's been a year since she was laid to rest yet she is still missed - and after the longest reign in British history, filled with such moments as this sketch, is it any wonder?

Hi Sarah, great to see you back! Hope the cold/covid clears up quickly. London Paddington is quite a big station and is big for commuters coming in from the Western side of outer London and for people heading to/from Reading, Bath (amazing city and rugby club!!) and Bristol in South West England. I remember reading Paddington bear books when I was a kid in the early 80's, so fond childhood memories. Great skit with the late Queen. She had a much drier, sarcastic sense of humour than she is credited for! Get well soon and hope Scarlett is looking after you! xo

Paddington is a national institution, Sarah; the books, written by Michael Bond (no relation to James) were an integral part of my book collection as a child; Bond brought all who read his childrens literature, incredible adventures, much laughter, & an anthropomorphic charm that only a select few writers have managed to capture (even tho', the list of those authors is still quite long & varied). The late Queen had a fine sense of humour, & together with her many years as Head of State (the world's longest reigning Monarch), was, in the majority, well respected & admired. This small cinematic pastiche will (also) be fondly remembered for decades, if not centuries; what better way to celebrate a long & distinguished life - particularly with a small bear from darkest Peru ! 🙂

Most of the UK grew up reading the books. While it's interesting that the films were made for (and by) the grandchildren of the original audience, most who've seen it consider waiting three generations for a film was worth it. Paddington is one of London's ten railway stations.

Broadcast on the 4th June 2022, three months after the ruzzian war started. It had been revealed about that time that Ukrainian Paddington was voiced by President Zelinsky. Many Ukrainian soldiers were thanking the Queen for sending weapons to defend their country in film clips at the time. I may have over thought this but it is a rather marvellous film of Queen Elizabeth.
