A Show & Tell of my Atari joysticks, where I take them all apart and talk about their designs, and things to look for/avoid. TAC-2, TAC-3, Comrex Commander, Atari CX-40, and Sega Master System pads are discussed in depth. The Epyx 500XJ is mentioned in passing (I used to have one).
Table of contents:

As a side note: the TAC-3 that I was having trouble with turned out to have a bad cable. It works if I bend it to the left. Maybe I'll steal a cable from another stick like the one I took out of the TAC-2.
Another note: You want the Omron B3F-4000 or B3F-5001 to replace the switches in the Comrex Commander. It originally used B3F-4000's, but the B3F-5001 is rated for more presses before failure and uses gold contacts. Both are still in production; they are 12x12mm tactile switches with 1.27N actuation force.
I'm still liking Touhou entirely too much. I'll play something else eventually, I swear.
