I'm sad that you left Tom's channel, you were a great part of the team and brought much needed personality to his channel. The way you told your story today was well spoken and you might want to consider making a real push on your channel, remember Cleet started small and look at him now, or Alex Taylor shes all over the place. Stay with it you can do it. Good Luck!

@_JamesBrown , really, He is like listening to Gomer Pyle and the conversations just seem fake, keep the swearing out, dont say this, dont say that, keep sponsors happy etc etc, i can't watch his channel.
@trumbley22 Жыл бұрын
@@_JamesBrownGarrett shouldn't be famous and is super annoying. His content panders to views and likes. He doesn't understand a lot of mechanical stuff or care (hence why he destroys so much stuff). Alex knows her stuff and films what she does, she doesn't create content for the sake of content. Two different approaches, I prefer Alex. If they weren't filming, Alex would still do it and Garrett wouldn't. That's the difference.

This is great! I couldn’t stop thinking about *Sam Lankford* thru the whole thing, which brings me to this: we have all been there and we actually understand. I think most of us know you don’t owe anything to Tom and the shop, but please don’t burn the bridge. Talk to Tom, just once. He will respect you for the conversation. You maybe already have. The biggest regret I had to live with is similar to your situation. Bottom line, we love you as a creator and we think you love Tom and the gang. He feels a little raw and you can do a ton for them with just one conversation… Or not.

Well, I can say, I will be watching with very high interest in your career, some times we make the right decisions and other times, we make the not so right decisions! What makes it all worth while, is to keep moving forward ! I am 54 yo, dropped out of high school in year 9, did a hands on short course on car maintenance with a youth group. That landed me a job with an engine reconditioner, as a machinist engine builder, some 4 year later, I landed a job in a performance engine shop, learnt plenty, learnt you just can’t always get along with every one, again moving on to another better paying shop that was just starting out, I had done a welding course on mig stick and tig welding, being able to weld repair cylinder heads and blocks was a advantage and before I knew it I was off to work for Australia largest engine remanufacture. I did a few years there before again moving on to something better , all the while learning everything I could. Eventually I opened up my own engine shop. Was absolutely great until we had a big recession, loosing half of our customer base ( mechanical work shops) due to the economy, I decided to go back to tafe ( trade school) and learn metal fabrication, part time I was building intercoolers, fitting and plumbing these intercoolers, building turbo exhaust manifolds and intake systems , fitting and tuning efi systems ( when I was 19yo, I fuel injected and turbo charged a Datsun 1600 / 510 that ran 12 second 1/4 miles) This I did for a few years and enjoyed it, and I can relate to you, when you say, the interest wanes over time and soon your looking for a new challenge . After a few different jobs in Mechanical repair and maintenance industry ( not cars). I went back to TAFE ( trade school) did my motorcycle trade certificate ( bike people have always been my kind of people). I opened up a performance motorcycle repair shop, brought a bike chassis dyno, and built a nitrous powered zx9r drag bike that went 8.80s at 156mph, it was a street bike lowered with a fogger nitrous system, I converted bikes to e85, fitted Haltec ecus, and tuned them, built a some turbo street/ drag bikes, life was sweet and the most enjoyable ! It had ever been and I had some great clientele/ friends, went on many rides…….. great times. Then at a drag meet it all went terribly wrong at 100mph and spend some time recovering in hospital. No more drag racing and slowly due to pain the interest waned and I retired. I now spent my time, travelling Around Australia in an old 1978 model motor home, loving life and seeing some wonderful sights around Australia. Life is an Adventure EJ, you only get one crack at life, never settle, never become stuck, bored with what your doing. You sound a lot like me, once you have mastered a thing, it’s time for the next challenge. Life always about what you make it! It’s about seizing opportunity when it presents itself or actively looking for it. Along the way, you learn some amazing skills and as time goes on, your knowledge becomes a valuable resource that others want and will Pay well for. Working for my self was the most rewarding and also painful times. You get the freedom to do what you like, but that comes with Dealing with many people, most are awesome , others total pain in the arse! Self employed, you now have many bosses! But you are at the whim of the economy, unfortunately while running my shop we had another recession, since motorcycle are a luxury toy, Our clients being in well paid job, having a track ( circuit bike) a couple of street bikes , a dirt bike . These guys had to take pay cuts To keep there jobs, which ment the wife’s made them get rid of the toys. After a while this down turn really hurt the shops income And we started to see an influx of the low paid guys riding old bike just for transport duties back and forward to work. These riders were not enthusiasts, it was a means to just get to work. Not maintained and we only seen them when they could no longer patch them up. No money and wanting cheap service. They where also the most problematic customers who could not pay there bills for weeks at a time. Tuff times. So being self employed is not all roses, many challenges and many knew skills need to be learned. People skills was not my best skill! Small business really opens your eyes to length some people will go too, to try and cheat or defame you when they don’t get there way. Always the challenge, if I lived my life again, I would want to build something then sell it when I am done, Move on to the next project and repeat, working for me and then finding the right buyer when it’s all done, having very little people contact along the way. Maybe the next go round. Next life time. I know it was a Ramble, I hope you see this EJ and get something from it. The challenge is, not to get locked into a mundane boring Job you can’t stand. If you can learn something new every day, your on the right track. I will be following with interest. Many have made a good living on you tube. I know I have enjoyed watching you on Tom’s channel I will be following you here on your channel. I am sure others will too! Keep smiling 😊

I am so happy that you are OK. I was concerned about you as a person. Jobs will come and go but at 24 you still have your whole life ahead of you and if you can find something that you really like you will never have to work a day in your life. After seeing Tom's last video where he said that you were not working for him anymore, I was concerned. Thank you for letting everyone know that you are OK. I have been watching many You Tubers lately who have something to do with racing and they seem to really enjoy their work. Good Luck in the future. Garth P from Ann Arbor.

Thanks for the discussion, it answered a few of the questions but of course not all. I enjoyed seeing the look of amazement on your face when enjoying some of the opportunities you had at Tom's organization. Chase your dreams EJ !!! As a Father of two young men I always told my boys to chase their dreams and make sure they have a plan to achieve those dreams and do not ever make a backup plan, the reason I say this is simple if you have a plan B then you will definitely fail at achieving your dream. Sounds like you have found the passion now hone it !!! You don't have to explain anything that makes you uncomfortable or regret making that next step, do you and the rest will fall into place.

It’s extremely hard when you mentor someone and really put your heart into it and they leave. I’ve been in business for 33 years and trained many talented young people as machinists and fabricators. I spent more time on the the employees that had drive and talent and showed me that they used what they learned on the next projects. I left my mentors shop and I still regret how I did it. It took years of life experience to understand his position and we now send projects to his shop when I need specialized machining. The best way to thank Tom if you are on good terms and appreciate him is to reach out and talk to him once in a while and let him know how your life is going. I’m guessing he will not reach out to you if he’s like me…….just ignorant proud man stuff.

That I would watch! Unfortunately Cleetus channel, is not what it once was, short videos, rare glimpses of what’s going on in the shop. Planes, boats, It’s a car channel? Then all the promotional crap for his paid subscription service. He gotten so big, he needs to spend most his time finding money to pay for it all. And I think it shows in his content lately to be honest. Then all the keeps promotion stuff, that’s done nothing for his hairline. I can’t believe people get sucked into these types of scam subscription service? It may be an American thing? All these commercials telling you about miracle medicines to cure illness you never knew you had while growing up? I think it be a great learning stepping stone with Cleetus, just short lived. I also think EJ want to be her own thing most of all! After watching this video.

EJ I really truly hope the very best for you but I really think you left an opportunity that few do at Tom's. You never really said why so if it didn't work out then it didn't work out but you both seem lost and sad that it ended. Good luck in your future endeavors, reach for the stars.
