After seeing the RIDICULOUS penetration from that crazy fast twist, I really want to see this put through a battery of tests for barrier penetration. I'm talking sheet metal, windshields, solid wood door, plywood, exterior walls, even concrete block. Hell, toss in level 3a and level 3 body armor to the mix too. That would really drive home and give a great understanding of the real world penetration capabilities of this fascinating newer round.
@chrisviviano3271
@chrisviviano3271 9 ай бұрын
I absolutely agree with this, I would love to see that test. I mean in all honesty, when in an urban scenario, you will be penetrating wood, concrete, cinderblock filled and empty, car doors, windows, windshields, armored glass, plate carriers, and drywall. I think this is a brilliant urban sniper, especially if it has massive penetration power! I’m sure once you break certain substances the round will be slowed and slightly pancaked making it a more damaging round after barrier break.

I really want one of these! The 300 BKO had the same overpenetration issues when it came out, as most bullets are designed to penetrate and expand properly at fast supersonic velocities. A few years ago we were shooting 6.5 Creedmoor at muzzle velocities of around 3000 fps. At 100-200 yards they were penetrating and expanding to about 16-18 inches in ballistic gelatin. At 1000+ yards, they were not expanding and penetrating more than 36 inches. With the 300 BKO, it performed much better at closer ranges once bullets were developed that were designed to penetrate and expand at subsonic velocities. So this round will be better once those bullets become available to perform at subsonic.

When Jim Rock was alive, he developed a single shot 30 caliber projectile in a 32 H&R brass as a toy for the teams for anti-sniper. You heard the trigger click, and then down range impact and steel, silhouette flip over. I ended up buying two of Jim Rock’s single shots in wildcat calibers. They weren't using traditional lead/copper hollow points. The 8.6 only comes in solid monolithic projectiles due to the extreme twist rates. So all that is available is copper fragmenting subsonic. And they don't really work as advertised. I bought a bunch from gorilla in 300 blk and none of them fragmented in gel. That's why it is getting so much penetration. A 223 would penetrate with a similar projectile at that range.

It's really not that much energy. The heavier bullets are around 300 grains traveling 1000fps which has around 650 ft/lbs of energy which is about the same as 357 mag/10mm auto from a revolver/pistol. Supers have 1800-1900 ft/lbs which is nothing to laugh at but that's your typical 30-30 winchester load. Like 300 blackout, this is meant to be as quiet as possible. The only way to get more power out of subsonic rounds is to add bullet weight which this accomplishes compared to 300 blk.
