As a Christian i deeply admire Yusef Islam. I agree with much of what he says here. I am glad he has found God through Islam. I love his music and I am so glad that he is performing again. Something very interesting is that neither great prophet Moses nor great prophet Jesus, claimed that they're the last one!! EVEN THOUGH both of them accepted the prophets who came before them, they still didn't claim to be the last. @@BobK5 There are actions and there are consequences, I think you should read the Quran and Hadiths, in BOTH it is stated there are times you need to give death execution or fight back in a war. Alahmdulillah, Islam is not an unpracticable religion like Christianity. Islam doesn't give you an utopic but unrealistic fantasy, which leads you to go out of the orders of the religion and act politically when it's needed (which is what Christians do and have always done). In Islam, you can and should do every aspect of life according to Islam. You don't stop being a muslim and act in your secular worldly interests when it's wartime.

Nice point -which is why Muslims do not follow all aspects of the Old Testament that permits and exhorts people to kill off anyone who disagrees with you, or who pray differently. That’s why Muslims do not kill their own fetuses or children as Old Testament allows people to kill disobedient children. Quran actually values all Life, and not just Muslims lives, but all lives. You must be watching tons of nightly news that distorts Islam. Quran, 17:31, “Kill not your children for fear of want (lack): Allah shall provide sustenance for them as well as for you. Verily the killing of them is a Great Sin.” Sura 17:33, (No genocide allowed by Allah in Quran): “Nor take Life-which Allah has made Sacred -except for Just Cause.” Islam does not pretend to be a completely pacifist religion, for Muslims are permitted to fight only for defense or if we cannot practice our monotheism in peace. I have not disrespected anyone and yes, I do believe that all human beings deserve respect, love, appreciation for good things that they do, and we must love each other regardless of religion, origin and many other differences we have with each other. The issue about why one decides to choose a religious practice and philosophy is that, I do not think it is a matter of choosing any of the large variety of forms available in this world. The most important issue is how important those differences are. If the end of a path is death, why would I want someone else to go that path? After studying for four 3.5 decades different religions of the world, being fair with each one of them as I studied them carefully, I see that Christianity makes total sense and it is the only one that shows evidence of a supernatural origin. Just to mention a few points. 1. The creation of the world and all that there is in it, is in agreement with science. Life started in the waters, God gave the word so that the waters would produce different kinds of life, fish, and birds to fly in the sky. God also commanded the dry land to produce a multiplicity of forms of life that crawl on the land, reptiles, mammals, plants and trees that bear seeds. The last species to come are humans in the last stage. The theory of Big Bang is also well represented according to the bible. God gave the order and big bang, all matter and energy came to exist. Next, is the fact that God is pure, holy, and perfect. Humans on the other side are imperfect, unholy and impure. Imperfection leads to degradation that will never stop. Thus by our nature, we are totally incompatible with God. Thus, we cannot join him unless we are completely transformed from the inside out. That is exactly what Jesus and his apostles taught. We need to be re-created in the image of his Son. Only by having a new birth, by the Spirit we are able to become citizens of the kingdom of heaven. For this to happen, we first need to understand that we are dead in sin and imperfection. We need to desire and want badly enough God's kingdom and justice, and finally understand that God wants to save us, and he has provided the means for us to be made compatible with his holy and perfect nature. Thus we surrender our lives in faith to Jesus and we are saved. But Islam, by its very nature can never provide the means of salvation. Islam, like any other human religious invention is based on human efforts to cross the bridge between the material world of humans and the spiritual kingdom of God. Mohammad was just another imperfect human being as anyone else. He cannot provide the means of salvation to other human beings. Only God can save. You cannot give another person what you don't have. If human beings are already dead in our imperfection, we cannot give another human being life. Only God can give life. Jesus was more than a prophet and that is the whole topic throughout the whole bible. The story of God's plan for the salvation of human beings.

My comment is a general view of what Islam is, how it started, who started, and the futility of trusting in a mere human being who pretended to talk like a prophet of God. I do research, I analyze historical evidence, and archaeological evidence, and see things objectively instead of believing in any kind of human-invented stories. I do not believe myself to be morally better than anyone else, I recognize that I am saved only by the grace of God, not by my personal virtues or qualities. Changes in my life for the good are the evidence of God working in my life. I cannot love people who hate me by myself, but God's love working in me and through me allow me to show compassion and empathy for those who do not understand and those who are in greater need than I might be. I do not believe in violence, I don't believe that God needs me to go and kill other people or enslave women and people of a different faith as Islam teaches. Salvation is by faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ only. Imperfect humans cannot join a perfect God, who created the heavens and the earth. That's why it makes sense the teachings of Jesus in the sense that we need to be recreated in the image of Jesus, the Son of God, in order to share the perfect nature of God and be able to to come into his presence.

I too am a Christian and I accept that I as a Christian have a different idea of Allah than a Muslim. However I also accept that there are many Godly Muslims who manifest God’s love in their lives through deep faith and goodness in this world and Yusef is one of them. Ultimately we who love God and worship him in whatever way are seekers and we all trust in his mercy. We should leave our difference aside, read each others books (I have read the Quran in English and am learning Arabic as I am Koine Greek and Latin), try to understand each others perspective and treat each other with love and respect. I lived in Egypt for a while and this philosophy did me well. We’ll know who is right when we stand before God at the resurrection. Until then we trust in his mercy to those who earnestly seek him with an open mind and heart. May he bless everyone who reads this.

Avoiding music or musical instruments is not something that you can find in Quran. /similarly, Quran asks women to dress modestly, and avoid showing their attractive body parts. And you won't find an ayat in the Quran forbidding music. But there are ayats saying, that it is forbidden to change the Quran and to say that something is forbidden when it is not. Why is it, that the sufis for instance do enjoy spiritual music? And remember that the great sheik al-Gahzali taught us, that sufism is the inner core of islam.

Yusuf hasn't in any manner left his islamic views behind. For knowing that, just follow him on Facebook. But he was being convinced (namely by his son and others) that his musical talent is a gift given by the creator to be used to bring joy and wisdom. And so for this matter he seems to be back to an interpretation of the Quran which for centuries hadn't had any problem with music. Because music wasn't forbidden by Allah but by some of the ulema, that are human beings that make mistakes as all humans do.
