Yep. Many of these eco-video's rave about the 'pollution' being thrown out by these chimneys, even when most of them are just cooling towers wafting away water vapour. Even with the flue chimneys, the 'pollution' is almost totally waste steam from the wet scrubbers, which clean the particles out of the flue gas and neutralise any corrosive nasties, which is why it isn't filthy black smoke. Of course, they don't want people to know that inconvenient truth, so it's all branded as dirty nasty pollution to suit their narrative.

Coal is classified as a nonrenewable energy source because it takes millions of years to form. Coal contains the energy stored by plants that lived hundreds of millions of years ago in swampy forests. 3:00 Environmental impacts associated with using coal as an energy source are particulate emission, ground level ozone, smog and acid rain. Coal and fuel oil combustion emit fly ash particles into the atmosphere, which contribute to air pollution problems. Sources: EIA; WWF
@sandercohen97122 жыл бұрын
Seems to me that with proper filtration systems coal can still be a fairly decent source of energy, without causing massive damage to the environment. Sun and wind power are basically non-factors, especially considering the resources invested into those energy sources and the difficulty of disposing of wind turbines, especially the rotors. Nuclear power might do the trick, but there have been very little innovations in that area for the last couple of decades. CO2 is a non-issue, given that most of the CO2 is produced by the ocean and volcanoes and CO2 emissions tends to follow a rise in temperature and not the other way around (i.e. it is caused by our sun - including its activity and solar winds, rather than by humans producing CO2 and trapping the heat)
@bluemoondiadochi2 жыл бұрын

How about they follow North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee’s model which is replacing all of the existing coal plants with combined cycle natural gas ones and even some nuclear. This method has worked very well. Coal is no longer the majority in any of these states, it’s natural gas in Georgia, nuclear in Tennessee, and the amount produced from natural gas and nuclear in North Carolina is almost equivalent to each. North Carolina and Tennessee are on track to phase out coal entirely by 2035(and NC expects to replace their largest coal plant with a nuclear plant at that time) and it might happen a lot sooner in Georgia as there are only 2 operational coal plants left and both are 40-50 years old now
