The Raid 2 was the story Gareth Evans originally wanted to tell, but didn't have enough funding, so he had to make The Raid: Redemption first with a smaller budget. And it worked to it's benefit. Limited characters, being shot in one location, the smaller scale. It was a huge success and got him enough recognition, and budget, to make The Raid 2.

As much as I'd love a third Raid film, hearing Rama say, "I'm done" kinda cements we probably won't get another. On the bright side, there's a movie called "The Night Comes for Us" that is very similar style to the raid films and has a lot of the same cast. Haven't seen it personally yet, but I hear it's a great encore film and arguably more brutal (which is hard to believe after seeing this film).

I honestly didn't think they could outdo the first one, but goddamn i was wrong! This movie is absolutely bonkers from start to finish. It's a helluva lot more brutal, the story is a little better in my opinion, and the cinematography was sometimes even better than the first one. Absolute 12/10 The Raid movies earned their place among the best martial arts movies ever made

Those final fights one after the other left me feeling exhausted, but I mean that in a good way. Just like in Oldboy and Daredevil, you feel how tired Rama becomes as these fights go on and his wins are that much more rewarding. Shame we never got a third and ended on that cliff hanger.

Iko Uwais and Tony Jaa are both well known for full contact fight scenes and having multiple on-set injuries to their stunt teams. They've only done one movie together, 2019's Triple Threat which also stars Tiger Chen, Scott Adkins and Michael Jai White. The 5 of them wrote and produced the movie together because they're all fans of each other and wanted to do a fan service movie where they all get to show off their best moves. The plot is simple, everyone fights everyone, Scott Adkins is the bad guy and takes on Iko and Tony at the same time, (Killa from John Wick but he's in excellent shape), the fight choreography is the reason to watch, it's a martial arts fever dream.

They were both also in Expendables 4 but didn't fight each other. Iko got Statham, while Jaa got stunt man Daren Nop and Levy Tran. Iko the main villain, Jaa part of the Expendables team.

There's a lot of great action movies with "intense" action, but the Raid films are truly one of those action films that are so intense I actually feel sorry for the henchmen. Some of the ways these guys go out are insane. This is definitely one of the greatest action films of all time.

Listen people....the human body is a fragile thing. We have no fangs..no armor..no venom...no claws. Oh, sure..we can fight..but after a few traumatic impacts....the body shuts down. This is like some "super soldier " stuff. I admire the HELL out of these stuntmen/actors. Because this $#&% is lethal. Those sound effects...especially the aluminum bat sound is just eerie...metal again bone.....Painful. You lads...give such genuine reaction to all this....Bravo! Mouths open...eyes popped...expletives galore! You guys ROCK!!!

The Kitchen fight is probably the best fight scene EVER put to film. No wonder the wonder the John Wick Movies were inspired by this :D Raid 1 and 2 are simply masterpieces of the action-movie-craft from the stuntmen who really took bumps nobody should all the way to the camera-operators. Tight stunt crew like these, they signed a waiver and usually agreed beforehand among themselves to make it as real as possible. They are highly trained in both martial and stunt arts and they didn't pull any punches.

Yayan was Mad Dog from the first, in spite of his original character's death he is playing the role of the homeless assassin here. Cecep is playing the assassin who kills Yayan and the Iko's (actor who plays the protagonist) main rival. All three of these guys would reunite a year later for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Yayan and Cecep would later team up again for John Wick Chapter 3, being the two assassin students who fight John together in the final act.

One of my favorite things about this film is how realistic everything is. The final kitchen scene fight is exactly how a fucking fight should look, their faces get more and more fucked up as it goes on. Each punch you feel and can see the effect of the hits. Nothing makes me more mad than watching people punch each other and when it’s done they only have a bloody lip lol. That alone is worth commending. Love this damn movie. Truly one of the best action films in cinematic history.

Now that you've seen The Raid 2, it helps gives context to fans geeking out in John Wick 3 - when John fights both Maddog and Rahman - the finally bosses from Raid 1 and Raid 2, at the same time. The massive respect between both sides in that fight.

How do you not recognize a single character or plot from the first movie? The guy killed at the beginning was literally the main character's brother and they fought mad dog together in the epic fight - no reaction to him being offed in first scene. The corrupt cop shot was again a major character in the last movie. And most importantly no reaction to showing the same actor who played mad dog, his fight with the two brothers is one of the all time great fight scenes in the movie.

Cecep Arif Rahman is the son Uco's loyal assassin who uses the karambit knives, originally the role was written for Yayan Ruhian who played Mad Dog in Redemption but he wanted to play the father Bangun's loyal assassin that fights an entire gang in the club. Yayan was lead fight choreographer and there's a video on KZbin of him and Iko rehearsing the entire kitchen fight before Cecep was cast.

You guys should watch some Tony Jaa movies!! Ong Bak and The Protector series are really fun, and Jaa did most (if not all?) of his own stunts for the movies, which are insane! Full disclosure warning: Some of the big fights have a LOT of "joints going the wrong way" kind of stuff, so be prepared! But the movies are impressive ... one of the films has an entire fight scene climbing up several stories of a building that was done all in one long take. I think you guys would really like them!
