Freddie Mercury left these words of wisdom for anyone. However I believe "Don't Try So Hard" is more for the young folk; remember he was a serious godfather to several children. He tells them how to act when they've got some influence over others...don't get carried away with 'your shiny buttons. . . actually refers to the need for humility. . . cause it's not easy handling success either. Tears for sure as I get lost in these amazingly presented lyrics left with us by our Freddie. Thanks for the nice reaction.

OMG!!! OMG!!! OMG!!! Freddie's voice, at this time of all times, was AMAZING!!! I mean, it was always amazing, but here, Ow!!! So clear, so strong, powerful, angel-like... And at this time he was so sick, with so much pain, and still he sang like this, delivered an out of this world song and lyrics (I know, it says lyrics by Queen, but I'll bet it was Freddie who wrote this one). He really takes our breaths away... Freddie was/is a Legend, an indisputable Legend, bigger than the universe. Long live Freddie Mercury, the true, the one and only King of Queen 👑👑👑

Seeing the influence of 70s Queen and it's musical complexities makes you look at just how the later stuff was sculpted. They may have gotten bigger but they also started being more selective . And I agree - it becomes more personally linked to them. For Freddie singing songs written by the others -- the songs come alive through the personal connection he finds.

Freddie's natural voice was a baritone; he chose to sing tenor. He finally was persuaded to sing a song in his natural voice by Montserrat Caballe for the Barcelona album. I can't remember if you reacted to Cool Cat on the NEVault channel. If you haven't, it's a chance hear Freddie up there near the top of his range in the early 80's.

Freddie was not a baritone he was a tenor, he was just a spinto tenor. They have deep, dramatic and powerful voices. Even Ensueno is not that low, most of the song is in the typical comfortable range for a tenor C4 - G4.

A few years ago I was to a concert of A Queen cover band. And the singer picked this very song to prove, that he can Freddie. And he did it really well and after a few tones everybody knew, that this concert will be great. So, this is really a benchmark song. And if you ever have the opportunity to go to a concert of May queen - don't miss it ;-)
@jonaton79103 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you about him sounding more youthful in the last 2 albums, especially on Innuendo album. His voice got a lot cleaner and less heavy, and also a lot thinner (you can hear this in songs like Hitman) which all reminds me of 70s Freddie ;D. Plus I heard that he got lessons/tips from Monsterrat Caballé (the opera singer he collabed with), so it explains to me why he sounds like he hits the notes effortlessly. 😌👌

He said it in an.interview: I'm practically a nun now! He said it jokingly, but it's true: due to his illness he quit smoking drinking, and partying. His voice actually reverted to it's earlier state. Listen to his last recording, Mother Love. So sad , yet so beautiful!

Aids affected every part of Freddie's body, but not his voice. It's a miracle. He was too weak to stand too long when they recorded "Innuendo", they put a bed in their studio so he could rest between takes, he had a fever all the time and a terrible pain, was so thin he couldn't get warm in many layers of clothing, but his voice sounded better than ever. He could sing almost until the end. That's what his assistant Peter Freestone wrote about Freddie's last days: "He knew that there were two Freddie Mercurys. The one curled up on the couch watching "Countdown" and the one perched on that one's shoulder. There was the person and there was the showman, each vying with the other to move the physical carcass around. Generally the showman won. Deep down inside it's what Freddie always wanted. He had always been a showman. In its latter stages, the disease killed the showman. The showman went first and without him, the person was unable to continue."

And his range just got better with time. He had the most incredible voice, there will never be a replacement for Freddie! And just a side note, the opera diva's name is pronounced (phonetically) Mont-sur-at Cabba-yay:) hope that helps. Still loving your reactions! Thank you again:)
