Got to love their music! I live in Florida but a cute young lady in BC led me to this band after a couple years of chatting and their are at the top of my list. I sad about the tragedy they have endured because they left a lot of music unmade. RIP to those that have passed.

I was educated and turned on to their amazing music listening to an NPR station coming out of Spindale, North Carolina in 1992 (WNCW) when I moved to East Tennessee from Nashville. (ironic since I understand Cookie has dabbled in Nashville exposure in the distant recent past) but there was a Celtic format program on Sunday's after they aired Thistle & Shamrock hosted by Fiona Ritchie. It was (and still is) called Celtic Winds emcee'd by Richard Beard. I heard a LOT of Rankin Family and I was HOOKED. I won tickets to see them at the Bijou Theater in Knoxville and it was the most rousing, amazing concert I'd been to in my life at that point. Everyone who could danced near their seats or in the aisles. And one of the sisters actually apologized during the warm up before they started that she had a cold and wouldn't be able to belt it out as usual. I met women in the ladies restrooms who followed this family all over in absolute adoration and love of them as a family and their music and we connected. I've never met such loyal and amazing fans of singers before or since really. I still am deeply moved by their music and it shows a diversity that goes beyond Celtic and anything else. I wish someone would post "Natives" here from their album. So many of their songs were poignant and incredible and they still apply today (sad to say) Thanks for what I hear and share anyway. ((huge hug))) from a Tennessee girl who loves World music to her core
