GREAT Rant I really like the idea about The England Team as if they did it point out of so many qualifiers it would really raised the profile yet the best would be in the team so probably the same names we all know but raising the profile and some well needed sponsor ship deals with a subscription youtube channel behind the scenes break down after the event i would pay for it

Very interesting rant this week. I would say the interest is still there for team fishing although maybe it’s the publicity that’s the issue. Food for thought I guess. Looking forward to next weeks rant

There aren't the venues to host 500+ peg matches. Most match fishing today is on puddles with short walks, everything you might want on site & big weights. Todays anglers won't walk 500 or 600m along a river bank to catch 2 or 3kg of fish. 90% + of the river anglers up here in Yorkshire are 50+ & are the same guys who were doing it 20 years ago. It's moved on from fossils like me, wether it's good for match angling ? Remains to be seen.

Good comments Mike. I know it's unlikely we'll ever get back to the 500 peg days, however with a bit of creative thinking, using the venues we do have surely it's possible to get team matches on 30-50 peg venues with 6-10 teams of 5 with various knockouts up and down the country leading to a well publicised final with a good pay-out? I think the team comps need to think outside the box and learn from the ever increasing number of "high profile" individual comps? Could you imagine the buzz around a Shipp, Kerry, West, May, Findlay team competing for Preston, or Pollard, Hughes, Arthur, Harrison, Mansfield for Matrix?

I walked the bank on last years Evesham festival weekend. On the Monday team event I can’t remember seeing anyone younger than say 40. You can’t try to reinvent teams like the mighty Leicester Likely Lads or the formidable Coleshill team without young blood. And the youth just isn’t there anymore both in numbers or enthusiasm. The day’s of the big team match’s has sadly gone and will never return I’m sorry to say. It’s sad but true I’m afraid.

I you look at the canal and river trust junior events you can see there is still interest

@@arthurkey7899 - But one or two yearly events is hardly motive enough fo kids to stick together practicing on natural venues on a regular basis. Where are all the club junior sections? Every club used to have one but their not there anymore in the numbers they used to be.

@@johnbloor4376 I agree but we destroyed our own sport banning keepnets etc kids get competitive trying to beat each other who did best the only thing now is who caught the biggest one and that s if you can get them out and away from the Xbox and mum lets them near the water without a security team just in case there's a problem !?!?!

excluding top match men in a lot of club matches there is a lot of so called fishermen who in my opinion will win at all costs you should see the fishes mouths on some venues absolutly ripped to pieces seen up to 8 tins of meat thrown in same with sweetcorn floating bread with size 12 hooks thick line just raggin em out to win if thats match fishing should be banned
