I love the Linville Gorge, I go backpacking there 10+times a year, and I love watching these kayak videos to scout out new trout/small mouth areas. Great footage Dane.

The third rapid is called the world's greatest swimming hole. I worked at a camp called camp celo and we would take kids backpacking and multi day hikes down to that rapid with the kids. It is a cherished memory of mine and was incredible to see

The infamous Linville Gorge. Once upon a time, when I was just a 12yo kid ('74), Tom McEwan told me a great, wild story about an overnight paddling ordeal on a fast-rising river with giant frogs when he was there with Jamie and Wick. This is the first time I've ever seen part of that river that lives in my mind. It matches every ominous vision.

You probably already do this, but I always carry a break down spare paddle and extra batteries! I have loaned my spare paddle many times to friends, which saved them a long walk out. Loved the run. Thanks again for sharing.

It's so nice when someone can give such succinct and to the point descriptions of rapids, especially on a river that seems to have been created when the river gods were in a particularly bad mood: That looks like they went crazy with sieves and undercuts in there! Still, that looks like a nice and fun run! Just wondering: did everybody eventually get their paddles back and were you able to warn the next group of that log?

We did end up retrieving the paddles and warning the next group, it all worked out!

Good of you guys to wait. A friend drowned on the bottom of upper zig zag on a log like that. Super canyon though. All I ever did was fly fish it at low water...that's nice too.

Sorry to hear about that. Always good to wait and keep people safe on the water.

coming soon - grappling hook and a 6 ton winch standard on all Jackson kayaks! I got pulled under a log like that, and luckily the current ripped me out of my kayak, or it might have been ugly. scary for sure.
