The Coelian or Flakpanzer 341 is one of the vehicles that was removed from the German tank tech tree. It's a pretty good SPAA, but not a great tank destroyer.

The Ostwind 2 in game is apparently completely made up as well, War Thunder has a normal Ostwind turret with two cannons, while in reality it would have gotten a completely new turret. Also it is not known wether a prototype was build or not, if there was one build no images exist. (My source is Tank Encyclopedia btw)

The Ostwind II is so fake that the gun mount they gave it is wrong... The guns can't work in that configuration, since the shells of one gun would eject into the other gun. This is why the ground mount 3.7cm flakzwillings are arranged vertically, not horizontally. The naval mount however is arranged horizontally, but the guns are turned sideways so they feed from the top.

I think half the problem is that you're using default mixed ammo. Half the time you'll outright miss a plane because of their different velocities even if you give them "correct" lead, and half the time you'll just not pen a tank because you're shooting high-explosive low caliber shells.

I don't think War Thunder gives separate velocities to shells in a belt. I'm fairly certain it just gives both shells the velocity of the fastest round in the belt. At least that used to be the case, I'm not sure if it was changed. Either way I'm just bad at using large caliber SPAA

​@Spookston No hard data, but in my opinion and based on my experience, it seems like the different shell types have different velocities in aircraft, so I can only assume this is also the case for ground vehicles. Sounds like the theme for a mythbusting video!

The ingame Coelian is actually the paper Daimler-Benz and Krupp design that used Flak 44s. The Coelian that had the mockup turret built was the Rheinmetall-Borsig with a different turret and experimental 37mm Flak 341 cannons. Therefore, similarly to the Panther II, there is still the "real" version that could be added to the game.

I'm mildly frustrated because of the stock belt, when you have access to the 100 % belts. Since there is practically no reload, one could just change the ammunition type after the first shot if anticipated. Also, the improved HE belt has Minengeschoss with the 914 m/s muzzle velocity!

This actually had a prototype. It existed, or atleast a full scale wooden mockup. The Ostwind II has no proof of ever leaving paper and quite possibly came from after the war, and even if it did come from Germany, the one in game is 100% made up by gaijin as the game has a different turret and the gun configuration is wrong.

Tbh I would like gaijin to introduce vehicles that at least had mockups built, especially for underrepresented vehicles types like SPAAs. It wouldn’t help the fundamental problems with SPAA but having more of them that better fit the power scale of your lineup instead of massively uptiering one just to have it (like France) would definitely have some positive effect. If they make them premiums then that would defeat the purpose though.

Historically, the Kugelblitz was armed with the low velocity 3cmMK108. FlaKPanther Coelien was intended (I believe) for a tank friendly version of the 3.7cmFlaK43, a high velocity weapon. Thus, Coelien had the larger "AA unbrella".

They corrected (nerfed) the armament for the German anti air a while back - I recall even the Wirbelwind used to have 64mm of pen which made it fun even as a regular vehicle but now with the reduced pen its only really good for anti-air

I think the reason germany lose that much ( as a german gb player myself ) is because we kinda stop playing the objective since The chances of actually capping are very low because of the lack of support So at the end you end up worrying more about getting kills and rp than to wining because we assume the game is already lost

FYI German 37mm autocannons do have one tiny area on the side of T-34s where they can pen - right to the left of the the front large wheel if the T-34 is driving left to right like in the Test Drive. It only works (or worked, it's been a while since the Sd Kfz 6/2 was high enough BR to meet T-34s) when the T-34 is perfectly side-on.

FYI the upgraded HE rounds have much higher muzzle velocity and explosive filler and would be a much better choice for shooting planes. There's no reload time so there's no advantage to using the default belts.

A little info on coeliac ammo. Always go with air and ground belts never with mixed. The mixed belt is worse because the HEI round is 300m/so or so slower than in the pure HEI belt.

I actually love this thing, one of my favorite AA's, decent RoF, deadly damage, great armor for an AA (I've literally bounced cold war rounds on that slope at good angles) the no reload infinite firing and instant ammo switch at such a low BR is really nice. It's a shame it lost nearly half its pen though, struggles to kill anything frontally or even from the side that isn't a no armor vehicle. It also should have never been removed, replaced with an even more fake tank, meanwhile this at the very least has a confirmed wooden mockup.

The upgraded he has higher velocity, use that for planes don’t use the default mixed. Use the full ap for tanks. I think other people have told you this though, but that’s been my default use for this, served me well in rb and winning a few seasons of squadron battles

The reason the turret traverse may seem "wonky" as you put it is because its an unstabilized platform, if it did have a stabilizer then it would just snap to your cursor like an abrams turret just as an example

I can never seem to find anyone who remembers it but there was a time where the coelian had an HVAP belt that had the same pen values as the HVAP belt on the G model Stukas, that pen being around 100mm last i looked, and that made the coelian terrifying to literally everything around for like a month before they removed the belt, gave the 37mms a nerf and then a while later just flat removed the Coelian from the Tech tree
