@mltinus6 ай бұрын
This was so frustrating!!! I'd already seen the original video and could quite easily follow, even though I'm like a 750 ELO player. -> Disambiguate means 2 of the same pieces on the same rank or file -> Double disambiguate means 2 of the same pieces on both the rank AND the file... You need to disambiguate with 2 characters (number for rank and letter for file) to have a unique notiation for that piece!! I don't understand how he can keep on having to really think about which piece is doubly disambiguated, because it's always the 'middle' piece of the triangular setup of the 3 same pieces, the only piece that has a piece of the same type on its rank AND file.

He doesn't have a very high IQ. the first part is easy to explain, if you train yourself for so many years on how every chess piece moves you can easily manipulate the game to have a certain position ( of course if you are against a beginner). but the second part doesn't have anything to do with how chess pieces move, he created the position in the video with ease. but then it's just a simple thing to figure out which bishop to move at the end. that is the difference between hard work and talent or (being smart). you can see in his videos that out of chess he isn't really smart, if he tries to play another game that is not chess he would probably be below average. I'm not hating on him its just what I notices, I would never be able to achieve what he achieved in chess.

@@GrabnarMyers for double disambiguation there should be three or more knights that can reach the same square, this is bcz we want the file as well as rank mentioned in the algebraic notation of the move, normally a knight move would be Nf3 but in this case it would be Ng1f3, in a single disambiguation it is either file or rank mentioned N1f3/Ngf3, these types of notation specify which knight on the board is arriving at a particular square, the trick to find which one to move (in Hikaru's game) is to look at which knight is at the corner of the L formed by knights
@GrabnarMyers6 ай бұрын
@@mananbachani5189 “for double disambiguation there should be three or more knights than can reach the same square”. In the example I gave, (where theres a knight in the middle without forming a straight diagonal line) this is true just as much as if they are diagonal. When they are diagonal- two knights are both looking at the knight in the middle. Thus all three knights are “on” the same square. When they are in a “double L” shape- two knights are both looking at the knight in the middle. Thus all three knights are “on” the same square. There literally is not a difference by any measurement. I think people are misunderstanding this and saying its not a double disambiguation when it is. As there is mathematically zero difference. What is the difference, at all. Where is it.

@XenoTheTurtle6 ай бұрын
@RaniaIsAwesome well, chess notations aren't just about checkmate. Primarily it's about which piece was moved. Yeah, the other two bishops wouldn't have led to checkmate, but the notation must first state which piece was moved, and that's the ambiguous part. Even if only one of those moves was mate, we must always clear that ambiguity first. Otherwise, we would most of the time just say something like "f3#" or instead of Qxf3# in a normal match, and it could lead to a lot of confusion and make the recreation of the board a lot harder. And, yeah... It's a bit redundant, but it works quite well, no need to change what ain't broken. Also, in the case of the double disambiguity, literally all bishops always lead to checkmate, since the attacked squares remain the same no matter which one takes the pawn... Are you talking about single disambiguity?

31:45 the ambiguity is in Which piece made the move. Ambiguous meaning standard notation would leave it to question which knight made the move. The disambiguation (removal of the ambiguity) is the change to notation to clarify. So it's not that the knight on C7 is "not disambiguated" so much as it would only require 1 adjustment to the notation to clarify that it made the move as oppose to 2 adjustments tot he notation (a double-disambiguation).

Statistical rarity is descriptive, not prescriptive, saying you're 'unlikely' to achieve that checkmate implies that chess games themselves are random when they're not. It's like claiming there's 1 albino in every 20,000 people so therefore you have a 1 in 20,000 chance to become albino which makes no sense. If you were picking out chess games at random looking for a doubly disambiguated bishop checkmate then yeah this would be rare.

Disambiguation does not change the move. The notation simply serves to clarify which move is being made which is not the same as a completely different move. Disambiguation does not affect the rarity of the move, it only affects the rarity of the simplest way to describe the move.
