Honestly, I was already planning on Rice being suspended for the entire season so this news isn't a surprise. His is an example that has to be set in light of what happened to Henry Ruggs III. 8+ games is generous considering that there were no casualties so I think this is an acceptable punishment at the end of the day. As for LRZ, I think we'll know more after the rookie camp this weekend but I'm leaning towards him possibly being on the chopping block.

Deshaun Watson served an 11-game suspension for allegations of sexual misconduct from over two dozen women in 2022. I can't see the NFL giving Rice a greater punishment than that. The optics would be troublesome. I still think eight games. "Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte' Stallworth has been suspended without pay for the entire 2009 season as a result of his guilty plea to DUI manslaughter."

Hi Cole, LRZ was not eligible for the International Player Pathway exemption. For him to be eligible the Chiefs would have had to have waited for him to be assigned through the IPP program (and not be guaranteed that he would be). Instead they opted to sign him as a free agent (basically a UDFA deal in value and structure) to ensure they landed him. This means that he is ineligible for the IPP exemption, because he's no longer part of the program - he's a regular free agent signing. He'll count toward the 90 man, the Practice Squad and/or 53 man. This doesn't say anything about LRZ's future, Godrick got the exempted spot because he was the only player eligible. Cheers!

That's really interesting. Thanks for explaining. The IPP is still in its infancy, and I don't really understand how it works yet. I have hopes for LRZ still. He's not some middle-ranked rugby player. He's a star in his own right and was making a lot of money on promotions back in Europe. I don't think he'd have taken the gamble if he (and whatever people he has around him) didn't think he could make the transition.

It says a lot about LRZ - it says that the Chiefs thought he was too valuable to wait on the IPP, and preferred to treat him as a regular UDFA (which is higher earning/higher status). I will be *shocked* if Dave Toub lets Zammit go. He's such a special teams Swiss Army knife, especially with the new two returners rule change on kickoffs. Expect to see LRZ and Worthy back there on kickoffs to open the season.

That’s my thought as well. That would be in line with other punishments. 8 games seems a little steep, especially when you take into account how much it’s gonna cost him financially. Now, if they did 8 games suspended, reduced to 6 on appeal, that would seem fair to me. Either way, I do hope it gets resolved this season, so he doesn’t have it hanging over his head for the next year.

I think it will be 4-6 games just for him leaving the scene of the accident. That wasn't a good look and I think the NFL is going to hit him hard on that. Not making excuses for Rice, what he did is wrong, but remember Chiefs Kingdom, his brain is not fully developed yet.Research suggests that most human brains take about 25 years to develop, though these rates can vary between men and women, and among individuals. Although the human brain matures in size during adolescence, important developments within the prefrontal cortex and other regions still take place well into one's 20s. That being said, it was a terrible decision, but his behavior after the incident was predictable!! This is a teachable moment, and he should not be "thrown away" because of his poor decision-making. Thankfully, no one was hurt, and hopefully, he continues to mature and develop into a responsible young man.

Interesting news that I think is related to the Rashee Rice situation just hit my notifications. Jets CB Brandin Nichols was going 84 in a 50, with a top speed while driving of 111, in a car with license plate concealers, while having 4 previous speeding violations, and caused an accident with another car. The driver of the car reported he was left partially paralyzed, and is still receiving treatment for his injuries. This happened on April 26, 2022, and Nichols received a 1 game suspension in 2023 for this incident. If Rashee Rice, on his first offense with less serious injuries is given anywhere even CLOSE to an 8 game suspension, then it's obvious he's getting punished excessively simply for being on the Chiefs.

If an Eagles player is involved in a street racing incident that kills two people and doesn’t get suspended by the NFL, then it’s hard to suspend Rice at all let alone for half the season. Yes, there are some differences between the two situations. The Eagles player was not yet drafted into the NFL, the Eagles player did not leave the scene of the crime. It’s very unique because he was in the NFL draft process. He was outside of the schools, disciplinary actions through the Georgia football program. Yes, he went from an early first round pick to falling down draft order because of the incident and, at the time, expected NFL suspension. A suspension that never materialized. Those things considered, anything longer than two games and Rice’s camp should appeal the suspension.

I find LRZ really interesting. I don't have any inside info on whether he makes the team, but his vibes and the general optics of his time spent training in TX is very, very good for potential future transition candidates. If you're a big time rugby/aussie rules/CFL star and you see the reigning champs pick up a rugby player, give him a shot, and even get him in shape to make the team, you're gonna be far more incentivized to go after that dream. It's a different discussion for sure, but I'd equate it to the Dodgers creating a pipeline to sign the most premier talent out of Japan by making Ohtani the highest paid player ever and Yamamoto one of the highest paid pitchers ever.

Chiefs didn't go headhunting the rugby World looking for LRZ. He is a good player but not as good as guys in his position playing for countries like New Zealand or South Africa. He wouldn't make their national teams. Between those 2 countries they have won 7 out of 10 rugby World cups. Rees Zammits Wales team has been on the receiving end of some seriously huge defeats to teams like New Zealand and South Africa over the years but none of those players are leaving rugby to try make it in NFL. Rees Zammit is the only elite player so far to try make the transition. The Buffalo Bills have recently signed a rugby player on the same IPP program as Rees Zammit and he only played 8th division rugby in England which is crazy, that's like 8 leagues lower than the level Rees Zammit plays at and that's why there is no rugby video footage of the guy. In my opinion the IPP should set up a football program in new Zealand and South Africa as those 2 countries have traditionally produced the best rugby teams and players. I see the IPP are setting up a football recruiting program in Australia.

No I rather him get suspended next season. I plan on seeing him with Hollywood Brown and Xavier Worthy. Worthy is good, but so far we only have Brown for one year, if I'm not mistaken. So before we move on from Brown "IF" we do I rather see him with ALL the weapons we have now.
