Toni Morrison knew what she was talking about when clapping back in her interviews! Love the podcasts, saying everything that everyone wants to say. The gymnastics who are really good, I feel the psychological attacks are used to stunt their growth or to be run out of the sport. I read Ellie quit due to being treated differently, hardly any support and like she wasn’t wanted on the team after sharing her experience in gymnastics - was affecting her mental health. It implied that the elite coach said some abusive comments and still working there. (Don’t think she’s given any receipts).

I am scared to even talk about this, but I will anyways. I am very worried about Rebecca because she is the reigning World Champion, going into the Olympic year. And for those of us with long memories, know about "The Vault Curse of Nadia". And what this means is, since like 1976, either the reigning world champion on Vault, or the best vaulter competing at the Olympics, fails to win vault. in 76 and 80, Nadia was probably the best Vaulter, but finished off the podium. In 84, Mary Lou was waaay better than Szabo, but MLR finished 2nd. in 88, Shushonova had a DTY but fell on it during the finals, leaving Bogi with the gold. In 92 Lysenko had a DTY, but finished 3rd to Milo and Onodi. In 96, Simona won, but Gogean was the reigning world champion on Vault. And in 00 Zamo was the reigning world champion and she won gold at the Olympics, but Amanar had a 2.5Y and a Double Tsuck (She beat Zamo at Europeans). At the 2004 Olympics, Chusi was the reigning world champion on Vault, but was injured and finished dead last in qualifying, thus Monica Rosu won gold. And in 2008, the 3 time World Champ Cheng Fei botched her vault to finish behind Hong and Chusi. In 2012 Maroney was the reigning world champ and was nailing her 2.5Ys but botched her 2nd vault and finished 2nd to Izbasa. In 2016 Ole Helicopter Legs herself, Paseka was the reigning world champ and lost (rightfully) to Biles. And in 2020(1) Rebecca won due in part to Biles (reigning world champ) withdrawing. So here is hoping Rebecca can defend her vault title and break Nadia Vault Curse!

What is Valeri’s deal? It seems every gymnast he has coached has left him, or been broken by him. You have a triple gold medalist training in your gym, and she leaves, albeit temporarily. There needs to be some self reflection.

I don't think that she's ready. Her bars great, and her beam's come a long way since last year, but she's still behind for vault and floor. I don't think that she can compete with more solid all-arounders, especially not with Simone, Rebeca, and Shilese where they are. I won't rule her out for next quad though. But for now, on floor, in addition to the low D, her twisting form also has a long way to go.

Ive heard black gymnasts being called sneaky and lacking focus while different/more positive words are given to non-black (mostly white) gymnasts. Im close to just muting commentary at this point.
