The song was originally about a woman who helped Corey through a really tough time in his life and he ended up falling for her and thinking she had similar feelings for him but sadly she didn’t but it took on a new meaning when the man he wrote it with Paul gray the bassist in his band passed away from a drug overdose

You should check out The Warning, it's three sisters from Mexico. They are phenomenal. Three pice band and all three sing very well. They are fully bilingual and most of there songs are in English with a couple in Spanish. They have 1 EP and 3 LPS and not a bad song on any. You can literally randomly pick a song from there channel and you'll love it.

Corey was not sure if the song would fit with slipknot but Paul push for it to be on the album, knowing how much the song meant and how good it was.
@heffatheanimal2200 Жыл бұрын
@@Templarofsteel88 I think the original song fits just perfectly on that album and at that point of Slipknot's evolution. I can definitely see where Corey's thought must have gone, because even with the lighter songs on The Subliminal Verses it would have clashed heavily with the style of their previous albums. It came along at the right time

Others have touched on the songs meaning - origins of the song are about a failed relationship in Corey’s past. He wrote this song but didn’t think it was good enough for Slipknot, Paul Gray heard it and really pushed for the song to be included on their album saying how much he loved it. Not long after Paul passed away from an overdose. I think the emotion now when it’s performed is from Paul’s passing.

There are some other acoustic recordings for him, of some stone sour songs too, outside of this concert. 4:15 One guy tries to sing the backup part and immediately regrets it. This is actually a Slipknot song, Corey couldn't decide if he wanted it on the album and their bass player Paul pushed him to do it. Paul OD'd not too long after that album came out, so it was obviously heavy to begin with but then it became about losing him, too.

He actually talked about the song and the song is about his divorce from his first wife who he was together with for a very long time. There is a similar verse on the song ‘Til We Die. It’s the second verse where he talks about essentially getting pushed out of his family by his then wife. Paul was the only one of the band members who really backed the song and that’s why when he sings it, he thinks more of Paul than he does his ex wife. Especially since Paul died.

Love the reaction! Since you singled out an acoustic performance here, I would love to see you react to a couple of Lzzy Hale/Halestorm performances. One was recorded during the pandemic and is just Lzzy with Mark Morton (Lamb of God guitarist) doing the Black Crowes "She Talks to Angels". The other is the Sirius XM/Octane studio of Halestorm doing acoustic cover of Little Big Town's "Girl Crush". Both are absolute fantastic showcases of Lzzy's vocals in that stripped down setting you mention. Keep up the fantastic content!!

Corey killed his vocals several years ago. He enlisted the help of Melissa Cross. She started off as an opera singer and now teaches "The Zen of Screaming". She helped him (and many other famous singers) how to safely sing and not destroy their vox. I mean, Corey utilizes clean, fry, belt, diaphramatic support etc yet now understands passagio and many other technique's. Something Jon Bon Jovi now uses but unfortunately - its kinda too late for him. Jons vox are shot but at least he still gets up and performs. Snuff is a porwerful song. This acoustic version is deep. Paul Gray (google). Lots of emotion etc. Anyhow, good to see others enjoying the darker side of music. Been a metal fan 37 years and over last 5-6 yrs or so ive seen an influx of non metal heads reacting to metal. Good on one side, bad on the other. Not gona explain but hey, at least you seem passionate about what you do. Peace 🤘🏻

Honestly, i don't think everyone in Slipknot felt the same about Joey's death as they did Paul's. Paul's death was a shock and a surprise. It also contributed to the reason Joey was fired. Not official, but it was. Joey's death was not a shock to the members of Slipknot. If anything, it was validation for firing him because it was kind of expected.
