re: Corey’s neck… it is definitely kind of legendary lol. so much so that he found out a few years back that he had broken his damn neck *17 years* prior and didn’t notice 😳 went for a checkup because of progressive weakness and nerve issues and his dr was shocked he could still function at all. they did emergency surgery to replace 2 vertebra and shave some other bone that was damaging his spinal cord. he didn’t tell Corey the whole “you should have been paralyzed” bit until after the surgery as to not scare the piss out of him.
@Zabiru- Жыл бұрын
Yep. As much as this sounds like some kind of "legendary metal singer urban legend"-type stuff, when it comes to Corey I can believe it. The amount of shit the guy has been through in his life is something else. From what little I know about it from interviews and the books he's written I'm not sure I'd want to trade places with him. Massive fame and money not-withstanding. Of course, he'd break his damn neck and not notice ^^ Considering the stage shows Slipknot does (and more importantly did in earlier years) it's not exactly far-fetched. I'm not 100% sure about this, but I remember either reading or hearing somewhere that he supposedly actually broke it by headbanging too hard. Which sounds nuts, but again - it is Corey "The Neck" Taylor we're talking about so who knows.

You should read up on the background to this song. It was originally written about his ex-wife but when Paul Gray (Slipknot bassist who had persuaded Corey to include it on the All Hope Is Gone Album) died, it's meaning evolved into homage to him - hence Corey's introduction about it being a heavy song form
@joshgruenbaum93792 жыл бұрын
That's not the story I've heard for this song. I've always heard the song is about a close female friend that helped him through recovery and some very dark times that he fell in love with but she didn't feel the same way. The Paul part is definitely right though.
@mrolsen69872 жыл бұрын
I've heard both stories for years, so you both win. Joke aside, the song is clearly written about a girl, for me it doesn't matter about who. The fact that the meaning changed and why is more important, you get the picture of why he's having a rough time perform it.

As a singer myself, I can with great confidence state that you are THE best vocal reaction channel on youtube. There are many others who are really good, but they don't have this depth of knowledge in technique. When they listen to something that is spectacularly difficult to do, as a singer, it pisses me of when they don't seem to understand how difficult that thing really was. Recent examples include Chhap Tilak, and Bol hu. Every non-eastern reaction channel understates the singing ability. They simply don't have the knowledge of vocals. BUT YOU, when you mentioned gamakas and then proceeded to demonstrate, I was blown away then. and I still get blown away at every reaction of yours. You are the best.

My wife abandoned me when I was at my lowest point, an absolute dredge of society. I was toxic, a liar, a cheater, and a substance abuser. The pain I feel from this was knowing she fought until she just couldn’t, and I was too in my own spiral to see I was throwing our lives away. Sorry if that’s TMI. We all have that central core in our minds that we try so hard to protect. The part that doesn't necessarily _understand_ our feelings, but can channel that energy into effect, and can throw confusion and rage into that corner of the soul where it does the least damage. Most of us have armored it in the most makeshift way, cardboard scraps and duct tape, with a little luck, maybe a trash can lid. We get through the day by just letting that core sort through the impulses and thoughts, keeping out not just noise, but darkness. We all know we are going to die, and getting anything done requires _that_ knowledge to be controlled, contained, and underpowered. You stay alive partly by just not thinking about dying. You find joy partly by not considering misery. You can be happy if you can put sadness where it belongs. _Angels lie to keep control_ Corey Taylor's magic is _not_ just his voice. His grasp of language is unparalleled. His talent for word surgery could be murderously effective, yet he uses it to dismantle the armor on that protective engine in your mind just enough to open a line of sight for you, to show you one of the most important truths that all of us need to survive: You are not alone. And he does it not by coming up to you with a hug saying, "I'm with you, man," 'cause angels lie to keep control, and you won't believe him. He gets up on a stage, and he sings of his shadows, and we _recognize_ those shadows. You fight loneliness by knowing you're not alone. Corey Taylor's magic is not just _how_ he sings, but _what_ he sings, 'cause angels lie to keep control, and they reveal the truth to ease your pain.

So this song was originally on Slipknot's "All Hope is Gone" CD and was the last song he wrote with bassist Paul Grey prior to his passing. That's why it's hard for him to get through. The current Slipknot tour is the first time they've included "Snuff" in the setlist in several tours. From the same show but, on the fun side, although you should have the live from Download 2009 in your previously watched list, check out "Spit It Out". Live by Slipknot it's known for the "JUMP THE F*** UP!" moment. From this acoustic show, it's such a humorous moment. And don't sleep on his work as vocalist for Stone Sour or his solo release. If you want to jump from ballad to ballad then check out "Home" from his solo "CMFT" CD. Or Stone Sour's cover Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game". Stone Sour though is more the hard rock version of Slipknot's metal. All great stuff, depending on your mood and musical needs at the time.

The song usually messes with my mood, but I'm all good. That monologue from Hi Ren has genuinely changed my thought processes.

Congratulations on 100k!!! So glad I subscribed because I love hearing about anatomy, it's my weird autistic hyper fixation lol, and relating it to my favorite hobby is absolutely a treat for me! I hope to see tons more videos in the future. I would love to see you react to LiSA's Homura that was recorded on the "First take" channel. Be safe moving and hopefully your new home treats you well. :DDDD
