I’ll be forever salty that Shelley Duval got a Razzie (and so much more flack) for her performance in the Shining. She SOLD the horror of that movie, it wouldn’t be the same without her.

I could never have guessed, being a modern viewer looking back. She's absolutely amazing in that movie.

She was mistreated by Kubrick, by Nicholson, by critics, by people... Poor Shelley Duvall, she was amazing at The Shining!
@coolnerdlll6053
@coolnerdlll6053 2 жыл бұрын
I understand not liking her, because she is pretty annoying, but there's two things to keep in mind. One, it's part of the character. Two, you have to pin most of that on Kubrick. He destroyed her.
@janinosaurus
@janinosaurus 2 жыл бұрын
@@bananaleaf5899 she still got nominated though. Movies brag about being Oscar nominated or having an Oscar-nominated actor. So a lot of people had to think she was the worst for her to be nominated the first place. Same for Kubrick which… dude sounds like a monster to work for, but his movies in general and the Shining also are largely considered some of the best.
@janinosaurus
@janinosaurus 2 жыл бұрын
@@coolnerdlll6053 exactly. that’s disliking the character. She did a good job playing her as Kubrick wanted her to be. You might as well dislike Nicholson for being a sadistic jerk in that movie.

I know this is a very old comment, but i’ll still respond☺️ I feel the exact same way about this channel. I was always terrified of horror movies, but James and Chelsea adding in humor and background made everything better for me. They made me love horror movies and now a lot of my favorite movies are horror movies! Dead meat just made horror enjoyable for me🥰

Well was but most geniuses are really messed up people in other ways. Comedians are usually depressed, directors are usually authoritarian, musicians are usually deep but are also egotistical. I'm not sure if it's just part of being that talented or if it's bc of the fame they get from it but for some reason these people have some strange quirks.

Fun fact: Earlier this year, the Razzies rescinded Shelley Duvall's nomination because they took into account what Kubrick did to her. That was nice of them. Can't say I blame Kubrick's nomination, though. I respect his influence, but The Shining was a terribly directed movie and Kubrick wouldn't know good pacing if it swung an axe into his chest.
