The RC Geek's E-Flite F-4 Phantom II Flight at MRCF

Needless to say I've been on a bit of an F-4 kick lately. It's such a mean and distinct looking jet. If you've seen on my social pages, I actually have 3 different sized F-4s in my shop at the moment, this one, the Freewing and 2 JHH F-4s (both needing to be finished). Anyhow, I have a quick from the field flight review article and video posting next week on the E-flite F-4, so here's a full flight video to go with that. In short, this is a fantastic flying airplane that is absolutely rock solid in the air and looks good doing it.

The F4 is a beautifully designed jet, Chris. I can relate to your wanting every one of these. The anhedral horizontal stab is very noticeable on both the F16 & F4. It was added to avoid the wing downwash and engines exhaust and improves yaw stability, also it will improve maneuverability at high AoA .

My favorite jet. Probably a little prejudiced, I use to work with these training on a Air to Ground Gunnery Range in the the late 60s (not a pilot) when I was in the Air Force. We trained pilots, getting them ready to go to Vietnam.

It's pretty cool that I just watched a video of how the top gun academy started out and in the video this plane was shown flying from a aircraft carrier in the Vietnam days. Pretty cool that you put this one up today. Nice work on the sticks GEEK. Great plane and great flying! I thought about buying this plane and I wanted to know if it flies as good as the Avanti s and does it have any bad tendencies..?

I haven't found any bad tendencies at all. Super forgiving. Phantoms have a certain way of flying which I really like, but it won't fly the same as an Avanti which is a purpose built sport jet.

I love the F-4. This video shows off the eflite version beautifully. Is there any consensus on the Freewing version versus the eflite one. 🤯

Thanks! Having flown both, I can tell you that they both exhibit the same characteristics and fly very similarly. I found the E-flite a much simpler assembly than the FW. The Freewing is bigger and so flies like a larger model. The E-flite flies smaller if that makes sense. Performance is similar between the too also.

IMO, Eflite foam feels and looks cheaper, electronics IMO are better w Eflite.

That used to be the case, but eflite has really stepped up their foam game the last year. The finish and engineering of the latest kits I’ve had the chance to fly is excellent! Agreed on the electronics too.

How does this plane handle compare to the eflite f16 70mm that’s what I’ve been flying but I’m thinking of getting this one next but not sure might be to much plane for me I am a fast learner I’ve been flying for 4 months and been flying that 70mm f16 from eflite

@@octane2099 nice! yes, the airplane does need some elevator mix with the flaps. Take a look at my write-up, it has all of the throws along with my dx file.
