Hi! I was across the lakebed that day. President Reagan was there as you see. It was our National Holiday, the 4th of July. Columbia landed it’s 4th Mission and an hour or so after the landing, our 2nd Shuttle Challenger took it’s maiden flight to Florida with President Reagan announcing it’s take off from Edwards atop the 747. I drove up from Long Beach. I was fortunate to see 8 of the first 9 landings. One of them landed at White Sands, NM, the one I did not see. It was always a thrill. We were allowed to camp overnight on the Lakebed. Loads of fun. Of course these were the two ill-fated shuttles. Looks like the Shuttles are fading into history now. Thanks for posting these special clips of Ronald and Nancy Reagan.

This video is amazing, Nancy and Ronald with the legendary astronauts. One of my favorite astronauts is Robert Crippen, the first Space Shuttle pilot in mission to space. The historic STS-1.
