Here I breakdown exactly how much I spend a month here in Melbourne. There is a difference between existing and living. How much do you think is enough to exist and how much is it to actually live? Lets have a chat...

I'm in Sydney, currently doing shared with someone in a decent apartment. I cut down steak heaps for ground beef and only spend 150 a week for my groceries. I will eat out here and there for a good steak. Girl I see cuts my hair for free. Work also has a gym so no extra money wasted there. For me it is fine as I live a pretty minimal lifestyle of work, workout, eat then chill at home or go for a walk somewhere. My plan is to also move away to somewhere like Thailand in the future as this country is not just expensive but feels so robotic especially in sydney. I remember living in the country side for 2 years and people would stop and say hello, felt like a proper community. In Sydney none of that really happens anymore especially in the heart of Sydney

Brother your doing well , the next level is clipping 500k + a year in income running this through a company / trust structure ( tax efficiency ), expensing a bulk of your living costs pre tax , then channeling 250k + cash per year into investments ( US tech stocks, bitcoin ect) do this for 10 years and you will not have to work a day again and will live a very free and comfortable life.

was a second bedroom for an office a requirement when you started looking at places? or did you just end up taking what you could get after applying for so many places in the area? i got used to a bare minimum standard of living when i was unemployed so since i've been working i've rarely felt like any luxuries are worth spending money on. as a result of that the monthly interest on my savings almost covers my rent now. it's up to you what your priorities are for spending and lifestyle but i think the biggest factor that determines anyone's quality of life is the people in it. having people with a similar outlook on life to share experiences with is the biggest difference between living and existing.

I've always lived in a 2 bedroom apartment so yeah I just took what I could get. Seeing 30 people at house openings was a nightmare so I went furnished. Moved straight in.... Its all about your lifestyle and what you're prepared to give and take.

I'm regional, with a nice sea breeze. Almost paid off my 2 br house. Only because I don't waste $ . Might sound boring, but I don't have financial worries and not in the rental machine. I've always thought of money as something that can give you peace of mind if you have some put away for a rainy day. Not something for short term materialistic gains. Stress less and be healthy in body and mind.

7-8k a month for us with 2 kids and a paid off house. The house was part luck and part effort, my wife's dad passed away early and she inherited a small property which we renovated, sold and upgraded 3 times now. You'd think with our monthly spend that we're doing something extravagant but nah, just work, pay the bills, 2 cars worth maybe $50k combined, 4 mobile phones, netflix. Weekends are usually a trip to Bunnings and then tinkering around the house or the back yard. One trip a year as a family, usually o/s, so we can have some memories together. Sure we don't think twice when we want something from woolies or the shops, and we like to buy little gifts to eachother. Gym and ice skating memberships, and I'm on a keto food delivery service (Alife plus) because my cooking sucks. Aaand thats about it. We save and we invest, because you actually need millions to retire at some point in this country, especially if you want to give your kids a bit of a head start in life. Which you kind of have to, because the Australian system is broken, it broke about a generation ago. Where do you start, pay for their first car? uni? wedding? their first home? You have to do something though, this is not a country where you start from scratch any more. We make about $400k a year combined, working 9-5 in middle management corporate jobs, which is hell, and we pretty much know we'll be working to 65 and maybe longer. I don't see any easy way out.

You are doing better than 95+% of 1st-gen migrants like us. Sometimes, I feel like Australia operates like a Ponzi scheme, to keep going it has to attract/lure more and more new migrants, who eventually realize that what seemed like a dream is actually the beginning of a hopeless struggle. Australia is systematically wrong, but sadly there seems no way back.

Housing cost is the killer..I used to believe that property was the way to go so long story short. I grinded hard and now own 2 outright I live in one and rent the other out for $550 a week and that is what I basically live off so 2k a month and I’m living pretty good I’d say. I’m in my early 30,s and know guys making there $1000 bucks a week and spending over $800 on a mortgage, no way to live no freedom. I live a hour from Melbourne

I’m the exact opposite mindset where I constantly thinking about the future where I would have 3Y 5Y 10Y and just finished the details and projections for my 15Y plans on Excel. But due to this I let myself go health wise compared to what I use to be, which is funny since I was planning how my future kids (not even born or married yet) would be setup after I pass away before I even started thinking about my own health. But essentially I wanted to let you know from someone from the other side of the spectrum. Since your building your own brand I want to emphasise how important superannuation is and capping the concessional bracket and going back in your previous years if you can financially. Since we can all agree Australian wages are actually quite good if you can remove the tax and so at the very least if you get taxed the 15% it would be something for the future. Superannuation 100% won’t be enough alone in your twilight years but at least it is something well you continue building your brand as a contingency plan in case something does go wrong in the future. It would be a good idea to speak to your accountant about it in more details. But do note if you do decide to go overseas permanently superannuation still acts the same where it will still be locked up in Australia until your 65. There is also the First home super saver scheme as well if you do plan on buying a property in the future it would save you minimum 7.5k at a 30% bracket but I’m assuming as you grow and hit the 47% tax bracket is goes up to 16k. Just wanted to let you know I case you haven’t already started.

Living in 15 - 20 years from now can be a little dangerous and some would see it as being ungrateful because all you really have now is this present moment. Make the best possible you today and prove it with action and the super will actually take care of itself, if you don't have it cleaned out in the process. Wishing you all the best man

Sweet bro, I admire it. Personal question But how would you have children - your system doesn’t support them. Cheers bro from nsw

Cheers man! A lot of people leave their kids with an average mindset and some extra wealth. Great! They'll literally give it back to the open market because they haven't done the personal development. Giving a kid an iron clad mindset over a box is more key in my opinion. Secondly I'll buy a house when it's time. I won't purchase one before I get married or have kids that's a personal choice. But who is to say I will have a mortgage to begin with. Its a different strategy, but I like being mobile for now. I want to break free from the race, maybe it wouldn't hurt to do things differently...

Australia was once a paradise but the EU, UN, WEF are intent on globalism. Digital ID's allowing for central digital bank currency. It's happening everywhere. I believe the digital ID is already being rolled out in Oz and the UK government same. I saw an ad on you tube (not sure if it's on main stream) showing a young bloke dropping his wallet with heaps of cards and things spreading everywhere. He was trying to find ID to buy a drink. In comes another guy and taps his ID making it look all so easy. It's all about making life easier. Like hell it is. Ordinary people are being hammered on purpose with the biggest wealth transfer in history. A million ain't bad but it's now sort of meaningless and I hate to think of your tax. I'm sure you know a lot more about money than I do and my brother in Melbourne refuses to believe that governments are working in lockstep but the evidence is crystal clear. The UK, all the EU countries, Canada, New Zealand Australia all heading in the same direction. Having turned 70 I will be pleased to be gone from the madness. Cheers from London

Brooo during covid I learnt how to fade cause the barbers were closed, first few self hair cutes haircuts were a nightmate, but you get good at it overtime. Saving myself $60 bucks of a buzz cut and beard over 2 years now lol. Depends on your haircut, but once you figure out how to cut your own hair, you'll never go back to a barber haha

I'm a canberran, managing to survive living In the suburbs, I earn an average wage, I live a frugal life as well. I'm lucky enough to own my property, rents are high in Canberra as well, alot of people share in this city. That's life, some people complain about the cost, alot of apartments are being constructed these days.

40-something single myself in Brisbane- gotta say both sides of the government have given up on the public, and serving the community. People will whinge to me about certain things and i'm like 'Hey, go speak to your local member. THEY work for you, THEY are public servants!". Aussies are jaded & beaten down, and that's exactly what the government wants. I was lucky enough to work my arse off to save for a deposit for a home 20k from the city in 2017, 2 bed apartment for under $200k (unheard of now!!), my mortgage is $900/mth. I've gown extremely tired at my job that is not advancing me at all, in fact, I see firsthand that AI is completely taking over (i'm in customer service) and actually quitting in a month's time to train as a primary school teacher on an internship program so from 2026 will be part time in the classroom and paid a salary for it. I actually plan on moving out to Western QLD away from all the crazy of the city and taking advantage of all the incentives while doing something I love (I was a teacher in China in the past). Bit of a drastic career change but I play life by my own rules!

You're over spending. You can't complain about not getting ahead when you're having the best of everything. And the fact you're spending half of what your taking home means you're still saving. So i don't know what you've got to whinge about.

@@FilipGregov You were complaining about the cost of living and how hard it is to get ahead. But in reality it's 2 videos about what it costs YOU to live the good life you have. You need some perspective. So many people would love to be in your situation.

Then again , i work in the city but live in the outer north west . I can't wait to get out of the city every day . Your throwing money away on rent .

Seems excessive but it gets access to the area with people / networking there. 10 minutes everywhere. Beach 100 metres away. It’s fully furnished. Depends if you like travelling and living a fair way out. How much is your time worth? I think about this a lot. Appreciate the comment though
