Yep. I had the pleasure of meeting him once (sort of). During one of my years of being in the Marine Corps in Okinawa he came to our theater during Black History Month to give a speech. I believe that was about 15 years ago. I'd always been a huge fan of him (since way b4 that), but I was shocked to see how great he was at giving a speech. He surprised me with his charm, intellect, and humor. The guy was hilarious and seemed SOO much smarter than I'd expected him to be for some reason. I knew he was a phenomenal boxer, but didn't realize he was also so quick-witted. He doesn't seem quite as sharp now (at least from what I saw in this video), but he still seems like a great guy, and he's still in excellent shape for a man of his age. Another Marine took a picture of me with him, but it wasn't with my camera/phone and I never did receive that picture, despite asking for it. I think I was told it was accidentally deleted, which was really frustrating. Unfortunately I didn't have my own camera/phone with me. It was still a good memory though. Although he had far more muscle than me, I didn't feel like he was that big (or that tall) when I stood next to him and I'm only 5'10. I know he's listed as being taller, but he felt like he was about the same height. His head was a lot bigger than mine though. Anyhow, I totally agree with your comment.

@@Saku39fan and you never met Tyson ?
@Saku39fan3 жыл бұрын
@@theinformationbomber7102 no I’ve never met Tyson. Never seen him in person. But I’ve met a large number of professional athletes, including a few fighters. Also while in Okinawa, while going into the PX one day I saw Ken Shamrock sitting on a Harley. Surprisingly he was all by himself when I came in. Just as I was about to say something though some lady ran past me and up to him and starting telling him what a fan of his that her son was, but she was referring to some fake wrestling stuff that he was apparently also involved with. He let her take a pic of him so she could show her son later. I only knew of him from the UFC. We had a conversation but it didnt go well and he seemed like I’d pissed him off, although not purposely. At the time, Sakuraba Kazushi was by far the biggest name in Japan and quite possibly the biggest name in MMA. I asked Ken if him and Saku would ever fight. He said no, it’s too late for that. I thought he meant he’d retired. But he then added he was far too big and strong now and that it simply wouldn’t be a fair fight and nobody would really want to see it. I mentioned that I knew he (Ken) was an accomplished fighter, and was obviously in shape, but I added that we all know Saku had fought a lot of men who were in heavier weight classes and he still managed to beat them, so I thought it was a fight people might actually want to see. I wasn’t trying to say I thought Saku would beat him (although I was a die hard Sakuraba fan) but that’s when I could see he was pissed. Funny thing is they later fought and Sakuraba won, but instead of winning by submission as he typically did, he won by KO. I also ran into Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at a hotel in Tokyo. He sat at the table next to me for his breakfast. I was shocked. I didn’t want to interrupt his breakfast and kind of didn’t even want to bother him at all but I knew I’d never get another chance so I spoke with him a few minutes and he was one of the coolest people to meet, very down to earth, and he took a pic with me, which I still have. I also met Joe Frazier when I was a kid, and I still have the pic I took with him too but at the time I didn’t even hardly know of him. It was somewhere in NY. Like a really small place, about the size of an incredibly small library. I think he was signing autographs but I only remember standing in a line and taking a pic with him. My mom had taken me. I think she was more interested in seeing him in person.

@Ray Green , it says a lot. We live in a world dominated by words. To minimize the importance of word mastery, therefore, is not only to be in denial of that universal no-brainer but it's tantamount to spitting in the face of your Maker. I like Holyfield and Mayweather but to never take time to develop themselves, intellectually, with all that time and money, at least to an appreciable basic degree of grammar, is not only to dwarf themselves but all those with whom they interact. Immigrants that pour into the States from Mexico (and other places) every year who can't speak a lick of English but within two years time they're more articulate in English than Holyfield and Mayweather, both of whom were born and raised in the States. That's inexcusable no matter what anyone may protest to the contrary. The greatest individual to ever walk the face of this Earth insisted, "For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned" (Matthew 12:37). 'nuff said!

She was just like Evander, soft spoken and a lady indeed. I worked at GM assembly plant and we donated to the Boys Club Evander learned to box. This is such a great conversation. Master Doctor and a Legend. Classic. I am curious to learn how his training, recovery, and repair methods compare to current fighters. I bet there’s some great things to learn from a legend from another generation. Especially since he’s had one surgery and very little issues compared with current fighters with multiple issues.
