Finding out that Erik was named in memory of an Elder Scrolls fan has always been my favourite Skyrim fact.
@treybrzezowski32595 ай бұрын
I remember when I first learned Erik's story a few years ago after I had already met Erik in-game. I made him my main follower and made him a custom smithed set of armor, full Amber (Saints and Seducers, CC). I called the Set "Immok's Armor," and used the Fortify Resto look to give him an insane amount of HP and Stamina (well into the tens of Thousands). I made him an Amber Greatsword enchanted with Absorb Health and Chaos Damage, and named it "Westmorne." I kept Erik with me for a good chunk of the game, together we reunified Skyrim (Imperial), kicked Alduin's ass with Paarthurnax, bested Odahviing, and he was waiting for me at the Throat of the World when I returned from Sovngarde. The only reason I dismissed him as my companion was because I started Dawnguard and Serana is the required companion after a certain point. But after defeating Harkon, I went back to Rorikstead, and shared a mug with an old friend.

I never kill Erik, he reminds me of Luke Skywalker, and I hope that Bethesda does something with his character in 6, at least mention him becoming a famous adventurer in a book or something.
@masterneloth5 ай бұрын
I’d like to see a book about Erik the Slayer becoming a hero of Skyrim and fighting off many bandits or vampires similar to Saint Jiub with cliff racers.
@Watcherobot5 ай бұрын
It would be cool. Have they done it before with others? I've only played Skyrim so I wouldn't know.
@tengu2D5 ай бұрын
@@Watcherobotyeah, pretty often! Jiub in Dawnguard was the first character you meet in Morrowind, given a redemption arc after prison. a lot of characters from older games are developed more in writings or in person in later games.

Well, if the theorizes of TES6 being in Hammerfell is right, it's possible Erik himself will show up, either as an NPC or as some unknown character in dialogue, considering Erik's mentioned wanting to go to Hammerfell in his lines.

There's mods that make him level with the player, make him essential and you can even marry him.

I've always liked Erik, even though I don't take him much on my adventures, but I always felt something more about him, something that I didn't feel so much in the other followers. Thank you Neloth, you proved that feeling I had deep inside. Personally, I have a great appreciation for when companies do something like this to immortalize their fans and, as someone who believes that you die twice, once flesh and the other in memories, this was by far your video that I liked the most. Let West be with Jesus and the Slayer drink gallons and gallons of mead in the halls of Sovngarde. Thanks, Neloth, this has made my day a lot better. Edit: "God gives his worst battles to his best warriors," was a phrase a friend of mine said when he was diagnosed with cancer. And this applies to West as an absolute truth.

Plus Erik's mom either plays skyrim or sometimes reads threads about her son. I saw a reply from her on a thread that was showing respect to Erik like you are doing and in that very thread some dude mentioned sacrificing him but feeling bad about it because he did not know his story
@Rosalie_88885 ай бұрын
I actually knew all this already, but watched the video in full anyway, because I just never tire of hearing Erik's story. He was a brave and happy man and his skyrim character embodies it, and I'm never bored hiring the slayer as a comrade
@patricialavery82705 ай бұрын
People who would take Erik to Boethiah are probably the same people who take Belrand "because he's old". Both are very good followers. Erik has an unaggressive personality, meaning he usually won't attack that giant and his mammoths you were peacefully passing by and get you both killed like Uthgerd or Marcurio, for example.

Erik the Slayer has always been one of my favorite followers in the base game. I actually named one of my Elden Ring characters Erik Ivarstead. It's kinda wild that in some way shape of form, this man's memory lives on in ways never even intended.

Erick's place "Rorikstead", is quite interesting, there was cut content and joining some threads you can intuit that the story of the "fertile farm" is linked to the Daedra gods, as well as most likely related to the ☠️ of all the mothers in childbirth, and the strange magical ability of one of the twin girls. And the fact that it is content that is not implemented but must be searched in the game files makes it more interesting.

Erik has been my companion for the past 11 years and he's the goat. He has this voice like saying when he makes enough money in skyrim he's going to go to hammerfell and see what adventures await him there. I've always thought this was a hint to where the next game will take place, and he'll be there (at least we all can hope)

I never tire of hearing about the story of the real Erik and what Bethesda did to honor his memory. Great tribute video. I've added mods that level game-Erik up more and make him essential/marriageable, add more lines of dialogue, all that good stuff. Even aside from the touching real life backstory, the character is so eager and wholesome that I love having him around. One of his miscellaneous, I assume modded, lines of dialogue mentions him wanting to go to Hammerfell, so I hope there's a mod out there that allows me to take him there, as he deserves! My ex-bandit character changed his criminal ways once he met Erik and his golden retriever energy, and they've been going out to do good in the world since.

When I learned about this a couple playthroughs ago, I went and got him all armored up and made him my follower. Went out to fight a giant in the whiterun plains and Erik immediately got sent to space and died. I had to reload the save from the inn and left him there to be safe lol. However, this current playthrough I made him the head of the golden hills plantation. At least he got out of his dad's house right?

I've known about Erik's story for years but never really gave him a chance as a follower because I don’t play on PC and his level cap of 40 is harsh, especially when Teldryn Sero, Cicero, Frea, Dark Brotherhood Initiates, J'zargo, Aela, Mjoll, Vilkas, Farkas, Serana, Fort Dawnguard recruits, and Ralis Sedarys all do the same thing but better.
@nicholascauton96485 ай бұрын
He and Erik Thorvaldsson (a.k.a. Erik The Red) are the inspirations of this sword & sorcery book character I’m writing called “Erik The Red.” (I know, how original lol) Instead of having a lively personality like his in-game character in Skyrim, Erik The Red (my version in the book) actually takes personality inspirations from Conan The Barbarian. Mostly the violence part especially since it’s rooted in his tragedy of his family (wife and infant son) passing away due to violent bandits invading his home village. Like Erik The Slayer, Erik The Red was a farmer by day and fighter/Viking warrior by night. While most of his time was spent attending to his crops and livestock, every once in a while he would go out on a Viking raid with his fellows. Because of this, he developed not only a considerable fighting prowess but also a well-built physique due to his high-protein and fiber diet and extensively working of the land for his farm. All of this changed one day when a large group of bandits who were elves invaded his home village, pillaged it of its resources and in the process, murdered his family. Although he was part of the defense, he was knocked out cold rendering him unable to defend those he held dear. By the next morning, an elf sorceress restores him back to consciousness and later realizes that his family never survived the raid. Leaving him to bury them and wander with an elf sorceress whom he does not trust.

A lot of the npcs that travel with the dragonborn are either generic or mediocre, but Erik the Slayer is (by far & few) one of the best ones. Its a shame he's tagged as non-essential. It would be nice to see him in es6 and hear the stories he has after Skyrim.

Excellent and I have always felt the same way towards this special NPC because I knew his story. It is always super stressful for me when I have “ERIC THE SLAYER” as a companion because I feel like I absolutely cannot let any harm come to him. I usually run around like a crazy man trying to neutralize all threats that could potentially harm my special NPC. I know this makes me sound nuts but I can’t help it. What a fantastic video and probably the best one I’ve ever seen that memorializes ERIC WEST. I wish all the very best of health and happiness to you all and your families!

I wish you could offer to make Erik a set of armor. I mean, once the dragonborn is out in the world for awhile they tend to start pooling resources, and in the case of dragon bones and dragon scales, them doing their job (killing dragons) leads to them acquiring EVEN MORE resources, which can then be put into improving their gear to in turn make it easier to acquire the same resources. Therefore it makes sense to me to just make him a set of armor myself. I no longer really need steel once I hit the midgame (~lv. 50) and have access to ebony, daedric and dragonbone due to smithing cheese, so either I give him my late early game (~lv 30) steel plate armor, or I just shelve the good old steel plate and make him a whole new set of the good stuff due to it being very, very easy to just buy materials once you raid the bandit camp Northwest of Whiterun and pick up the Transmute spell. As it turns out, turning iron into silver into gold is an amazing way to, one, become over encumbered as both gold ore and bars are EXTREMELY heavy, and two, to both improve smithing skill by making jewelry, and to just outright sell for a fortune while abusing the restock bug. Add in Nethers' Follower Framework for multiple -farm tools,- *ahem* -pack mules- *ahem* -servants- *ahem* sorry, I got this cough. Damn allergies. Or maybe it's Bone Break Fever, regardless I should really go and see the Priestess of Kynareth. I mean, _valued followers,_ and I can mass sell tens of thousands of mongrel dog of the empire bucks worth of gold regalia in one trade run.
