For many years I am following Chateau Reynon which is in Cadillac. The owner Denis Dubourdieu was a Prof Ounologist at Bordeaux University with the nick name Pope of White wines. The wines, sauvignon blanc, are sold for around 13 euro and regularly score 89/91 points. After Dubourdieu passing the chateau is managed by his wife and sons. Excellent quality and often better and certainly cheaper than Sancerre.

Excellent presentation. The 'G' de Ch. Guiraud has long been a favorite of mine and i have several vintages (it does age well) in my cellar. I also have the white's from Ch. Lynch Bages, Talbot and Ch. Margaux. We opened a 2010 Pavillon Blanc a couple of weeks ago and it was superb.

Thanks for this video! Bordeaux Blanc definitely gets overshadowed by Riesling, Sancerre, Cote D'Or white, even higher end California Chardonnay (via French clones), and so many lovely styles. I've enjoyed a few like Chateau Carbonnieux Blanc (8 years of age on high scoring vintages like 2014 is fantastic, or with a 30 to 60 min decant), Chateau Larrivet Haut Brion Blanc is also a good value wine that with 10 years of age is just so fascinating also in a great vintage. In my cellar and waiting for the right moment is Chateau d'Yquem's dry white Bordeaux version Y de Yquem or Ygrec which while is very expensive, should be a wonderful baseline to measure their Sauternes by. Lower end and priced Bordeaux Blanc new release by the glass is really nice with French omelettes and herbed potatoes at a bistro. One of the best which I am waiting to open mine to try is Domaine de Chevalier Blanc. I also don't see any many Bordeaux Blanc at Michelin restaurants where I am strangely which is a shame.

Ive often enjoyed Graves in the past. Coming from Cape Town, white Bordeaux blends as well as single varietal Sauv Blanc and Semillon wines are common. Semillon in particular is a favourite of mine, and gains massively with time in the bottle. There is a pink / gris mutation of Semillon in South Africa. If you love Chenin Blanc and Semillon, you should really visit! I would love to see you taste some wines from my home country 🇿🇦

Great video, thank you for that! You are totally right, white Bordeaux remains excellent value for money (also true in red, and generally true vs over-priced Burgundy). I love Chateau Guiraud, dry and sweet, by the way (and the "G" is pronounced as in Google). I don't know the second one and would love to find it. I really love this kind of wine, which are sweet on the nose and then shock you by being dry in the mouth. This is great stuff. Some Spanish wines are like that too, and so are many Arbois (another fantastic yet unknown and under-appreciated region). Maybe you could also do a tasting of wines further South in the Southwest like Jurançon and Gascony (like Pacherenc de Vic-Bihl, both dry and sweet).

I never know what I am getting with white bordeaux. Sometimes it has bracing acidity with notes of grass and cat pee ( my preference) or tropical flavors and kind of flat. Whwn in Bordeaux I find it safer to choose an Entre-deux-mers whits because it will have enough acidity to work at the table.

I completely understand Your point. It is such a huge appellation and so many different styles are made under the generic Bordeaux aoc, that it could be very much a mystery with every bottle. I guess knowing the wine, label or producer could help a little bit. 😮‍💨

How does one develop their ability to smell all the difference between wines? Every time i smell a wine, I can only smell wine. I can just about distinguish the smell between red or white wine lol

@@NoSediment It's worth to see again. Not all films are, but there's something stylistically very appealing about The Warriors. I've been to their home turf, Coney Island South Brooklyn in the early 90'ies. Last stop on a very long subway ride. The amusement park was there but it wasn't operational at the time. It was like being in the film a little bit. Very strange place with the waterfront contrasted by the run down apartment blocks, graffiti everywhere etc. Like being in the past. And so now I'm looking at that journey in the past where I was somewhere that felt like it was in the past again. Like a dream within a dream.

Hi Agnes, bit off-topic but what’s your opinion that wine producers don’t have to show the ingredients which they have used in the wine on the label? With the potentially 60 additions they can use to achieve a desired “quality”, it is strange that we know so little about it.. And do you think you can still taste the usage of these unnatural adjustments? Warm greetings!
@NoSediment
@NoSediment 8 ай бұрын
Well, at least here in EU that will change, and all wines will need to have information available on whatever additions wine has been subject to. The best wineries really don’t worry much, because they do not add much, the only thing being SO2. For some more Southern regions it might be more difficult because to gain stability of the wine they simply MUST acidify, there is no other way - so there educating consumers will be essential. I think 60 different additives is exaggeration, but maybe I am too gullible. 😢

Always surprised by the staying power of the Bordeaux blancs. Question: isn't it the rule of thumb that a good red wine year may be a bad white wine year? The 3rd wine is 2015, how was that vintage for that particular white wine, compares to other so-so red wine vintages, like the 2011 or 2012?
@NoSediment
@NoSediment 8 ай бұрын
I think it used to be believed that bad vintage for reds will result in great vintage for sweet wines of Bordeaux. I haven’t heard the same about white wines, but might as well be wrong. Cheers! 🥂

Yes in Bordeaux often when the vintage for red is week the white is better. So if you are a person that like both red and white from Bordeaux, in the more weak vintages spend the high money on the whites. I did not buy a single bottle from vintage 2021 in reds but spend a lot of money on 2021. I have tried a bit over 100 wines in white from 2021 in Bordeaux. And pavillion blanc from Chateau Margaux was just one of the best i ever tried in long time. Outstanding wine. Other whites in 2021 vintage to spend on will be, Haut Brion Blanc, La Mission Haut Brion Blanc, Chateau Lafleur Blanc. If you don't what du spend these kind of money you will find good quality in 2021 in the range of 20-65 euro. Left bank and Pessac-Leognan.
