Classic example of network execs ruining a great project. Went from being a sharply written show to a child pandering mess. Those early seasons were brilliant.

It was the #1 show, & that just wasn't good enough for them. This show was such a prime example of why "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" should be taken seriously by Hollywood. I absolutely HATED what they did to Janine. She just got worse & worse.

The saddest day in my life is when the air pressure stomp pad failed and was no longer effective in opening the ghost trap. I had that and the plastic proton pack and remember being a ghostbuster for like 5 years consecutively. I hand the jumper too. I wished that being a ghostbuster was a real job. Bed sheet with sleeping bag was sweet

Okay, so big question: were you yourself as a GB or one of the four and then, who? TBH Sometimes we were just us, but on my Ghostbusters ID card that came with the set I wrote (so poorly) Egon and my brother was Ray.

The first 70 something episodes, was one of the best shows ever made. When it changed, by force because of the Network, to "Slimer and the Real Ghostbusters", it still had a few good stories, but it went downhill. It was the brilliant execs' idea that they should base it more around Slimer cuz "kids love him", and to tone down the complex and dark/scary stories. Bad moves on both counts.

Actually, the blue pole inside the GB Headquarters was lined with a spiral, which made the circular platform spin to the bottom. The peg on the platform disc fit into your Ghostbusters' boot, so they stayed on and "slid" down the pole. Nerd cred.

Should have mentioned Tahiti. One of the standout things about the first season was they hired a band to write pop songs they could insert into episodes, so the show's soundtrack mimicked the mix of orchestral incidental music and pop songs that was the hallmark of the films.

The blatant disrespect for Winston and Ernie Hudson is real!
@allyahhoward880
@allyahhoward880 5 жыл бұрын
I read that the lines for Winston in the first movie were originally for Eddie Murphy and most of it was ad libbed due to him being on Saturday Night Live and something about Bill Murray working off him. But because Murphy was busy filming the movie "Beverly Cops" they cut almost ALL OF WINSTON'S LINES. While he had some good lines in the movie, the producers could have let him voiced himself. Even though I didn't grow up watching the tv series (I'm 23) I watched all the seasons and I'm glad they at least gave a bit more background about Winston that we didn't know in the movie.

I love this show (still), and think the True Life DVD boxset is the ultimate collection. From the Sandman to the Werechicken, I thoroughly enjoyed both the writing and art. The only time that I've seen character design come close to this level was the 2012 TMNT show. I think that it's great how the IDW comic includes everything Ghostbusters (even the Filmation one) into one canon. Personally, I'm a fan of bothe original casts, and the recastings. How can you not love Kath Sucie's voice?

A few things not mentioned in the video. 1 The early seasons were animated in Japan, the studios used were some of the same studios used for Japanimation-- one being Toei Animation-- that also animated Japanese shows Hokuto No Ken, Dragon Ball, and other American shows like GI Joe, Transformers, Jem, and the first X-Men show from 1989. 2 Eddie Murphy had originally been the first choice for Winston in the movie, with John Belushi as Venkman. Both Arsenio Hall and Eddie Murphy were in "Coming to America". 3. Slimer was first named "Slimer" on the show, before that he was known as "Onion Head Ghost" or "Green Ghost". 4 In the pilot Real Ghostbusters promo, the Ghostbusters wore the movie jumpsuits, and their proton packs were more similar to the movie in color. Venkman looked more like Bill Murray, and Slimer resembled the character more from the movie in personality and appearance. 5 The character of Green Ghost/Slimer, was based on John Belushi's character Bluto. 6 The Real Ghostbusters first gave the "Proton Packs" their name. 7 After Lorenzo Music and Arsenio Hall were replaced by Coulier and Jones, the earlier episodes were then re-dubbed, with Coulier and Jones replacing Music and Hall's voices in many re-runs. 8 Real Ghostbusters was based on the movie, but RGB later also influenced the second movie. Ghostbusters 2 was the first live-action GB movie, to use the names "Slimer" and "Proton Pack", from the cartoon. Janine and Slimer were also made to look more like their cartoon version. 9 RGB was toned down with "Slimer and the Real Ghostbusters", because it was considered too dark or scary for children. 10. ECTO-1A and Slime Blower are two items only appearing in a GB movie, that was released in the Kenner Real Ghostbusters toyline.

I loved The Real Ghostbusters and Slimer! and The Real Ghostbusters, and the sequel Extreme Ghostbusters. When Slimer! and the Real Ghostbusters started, it was an hour block, YES! It aired in a one-hour time slot, which the show began doing under its original name earlier that same year on January 30, 1988. But It was divided into two 15 minute long Slimer! slots and one 30 minute slot for a The Real Ghostbusters episode in the middle of them. The show also received a new opening sequence (which was used for the remainder of the series) with the same theme song when it was re-titled as well. In season 5, it had more changes to the show with Ghostbusters II in theaters that summer. The cartoon was re-tuned to fit with the movie. The most noticeable change was the addition of Louis Tully. The "Slimer! and the Real Ghostbusters format was divided into a 15 minute Real Ghostbusters, 30 minute Real Ghostbusters, and then 1 15 minute Slimer's universe episode. During season 6, The Slimer! and The Real Ghostbusters format was 2 22 min. long The Real Ghostbusters episodes, though after the first few weeks, one of them was usually a rerun from a prior season. But the intro and show title still remained "Slimer! and The Real Ghostbusters." The intro music was updated to the new hard rock style version of Ray Parker, Jr. music. Season 7 was the final season and had only 4 episodes. The Slimer! and The Real Ghostbusters format was just 1 episode of The Real Ghostbusters. Most reruns were from 1989 (season 5) and 1990 (season 6) full-length episodes. However, like seasons 4, 5, 6 and 7, the title of the show and intro was still "Slimer! and The Real Ghostbusters".

IMO I always considered TRG to be part of the same universe as the movies, Citizen Ghost episode being the main connection. GB2 was pretty much based on the cartoons in a way and even Slimer in GB2 appeared to have been the good ghost and living with them despite the little cameos he had. Extreme Ghostbusters is the sequel series so that would also make it in the same universe. However I feel like the GB3 movie at this point is going to make or break on whether the cartoon series is part of the same universe or not and that will depend on references and the Slimer situation.

ok in the movie- they blew up the state puff . they never captioned him cause he wasnt a ghost. the cartoon never explained that part well. they just had him caught as a ghost. anyone can explain?

I don't think that was ever explained. It's strange though because in the episode Citizen Ghost which takes place after the first movie, they're covered in parts of Stay Puft when he exploded so even the show itself is contradicting the Stay Puft situation.

The reason Dave Coulier replaced Lorenzo Music was because the producers wanted someone who sounded more like Bill Murray, which is crazy to think about considering that Murray took over as Garfield in the live action films due to Music's passing. The show had it right from the start, but it was another thing the producers botched up when going into the third season.

Ghostbusters was a great cartoon, I really appreciate the detail of knowledge that you put into this video. Only problem is that with the Slime information was that Masters of the Universe came out with the Slime Pit from Mattel in 1985, before the Ghostbusters release from Kenner!!! Still I must say that I learned a lot more about the cartoon and what took place with it. Thanks for the info!!!

But It was divided into two 15 minute long Slimer! slots and one 30 minute slot for a The Real Ghostbusters episode in the middle of them. The show also received a new opening sequence (which was used for the remainder of the series) with the same theme song when it was re-titled as well. Slimer is shown to haunt the Sedgewick Hotel as its recurring pest. The segments added several characters as friends of Slimer and other supporting characters like Fred the Dog, Bud, a bellboy from the Sedgewick Hotel where Slimer was busted in the movie; Junior Ghostbusters Donald, Catherine, and Jason; Chilly Cooper, an ice cream truck driver, and Luigi the Italian chef - as well as his enemies -- a scruffy cat named Manx, Bruiser, a neighborhood dog that bullies him, Morris Grout, the grumpy manager of the Sedgewick Hotel, a tough woman named Mrs. Stone, socialite Mrs. Van Huego and her dog Fred, odd-job worker Rudy, and the ghost gangsters Goolem and Zugg as well as their boss Scareface. and a obsessive scientist named Doctor Norman Dweeb, an imcompetant mad scientist with a poodle named Elizabeth. Dweeb's life goal was to capture Slimer and experiment who purses him. Professor Dweeb also appeared on the comics and later added to the normal Slimer! and The Real Ghostbusters, where he looks down upon the team's paramormal research and declares his "ghost busting" superior; although his appearance remained overtly cartoony, inexplicably leaving him with only 3 fingers. In season 5, it had more changes to the show with Ghostbusters II in theaters that summer. The cartoon was re-tuned to fit with the movie. The most noticeable change was the addition of Louis Tully. Actually, BOTH of those reasons with the change of the characters likenesses are right. But the "legal hangups" with using their likenesses was why they changed them. This is confirmed by one of the original concept artists.

I think I was a bit too young to watch the movie when it 1st came out or recall it, but I remember loving the cartoon as a kid. Altering the characters likenesses for legal reason makes more sense, because they were already distinguishable from each other (Winston's black, Egon wears glasses, & Ray's chubby). The TMNT just wore different colors (like the GB's new uniforms) & had signature weapons. But I liked all the changes from the movie, until the 2nd network changes.

I had so many of the toys. They’re all gone, along with almost all my G1 and G2 Transformers and Ninja Turtles. I blame the parents for losing them in the move in 1994. There was a Ghostbusters flash light gun/projector that had a rotating lens of different ghosts. One was like some sort of banshee that would always freak me the F out.

Anyone who knows cartoon design knows that you want each character to have it's own unique silhouette. This explains the different body sizes, shapes, and hair styles when the characters were adapted to animation. If you have any doubt of this theory just google image search "cartoon silhouette"
