I am a former Protestant. Twenty years ago I tried to convert my Catholic wife. I went about this by looking up all the major Catholic beliefs and doctrines, which was a big mistake. I ended converting myself instead. Like John Henry Cardinal Newman once said, "To be deep in history is to cease to be Protestant."

Hi my friend. Dr. Scott Hahn went through an experience similar to yours . A very long time ago he attended his very first Catholic mass , as an observer only , to evaluate any theological faults in it . Instead , he was overwhelmed by the awe and comprehension of Jesus really & actually being present in the Holy Eucharist. Today he directs a seminary for educating Catholic priests and is a reknowned author of many books teaching the truth and beauty of catholic doctrine. I have his book 'The Lamb's Supper'.

Every week, the strength that i receive from the Eucharist to keep going, is indescribable. I wish to everyone to get so close to The Lord, to have Him in you and let Him fight and lead for you. The Eucharist motivates me to go to Adoration and weekday mass when I can. I feel so unworthy but so graced by God to receive Him in my life and heart after He says the word to heal me. Love hearing and talking about the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist! I grew up both Baptist and Catholic, so I found myself in the unique situation of eventually having to choose one or the other. For me, there was never any contest. Number one: the Eucharist. It's not the same in any other church. Trust me. Nothing compares. Number two: all of the tools. The Sacraments, the Saints, the abundance of prayers and literature. Number three: history. Research and you'll find ugliness, beauty and plain old facts. Every other church seems gaping empty without the Eucharist or Tabernacle. "God alone suffices." ~St. Teresa of Avila Edit- something to open discussion with your Protestant friends: The real presence of Christ in the Eucharist was a widespread belief among all Christians until a few hundred years ago. The anomaly seems to have gained prominence largely among Protestants in the US.

The true presence IS the source and summit of all Catholicism. Everything either flows from it or reflects back to it. Just as it should, Christ is the source of all therefore so also His very body. All liturgy is/should be directing us to this. We are foolish & weak, material beings ... we require regular, material help/grace from heaven to stay strong. God in His infinite love and wisdom knows this and supplies for our need in the eucharist. God bless you & your family always!

Your little girl is so cute! Love your videos. The absolute biggest problem with Catholics is their lack of Faith in the Holy Eucharist. For the Protestants, it is just a symbol. Lack of Faith is the problem. The manna that came down from heaven was real nourishment for those walking toward the promised land. We too are walking toward the promised land. Jesus made a new covenant “ do this in memory of me”. This is my body. The show bread. The bread that rises. The bread of the Presence. Bethlehem means “bread box”. Jesus is the Word that became Flesh. The night of the Passover, you had to eat the lamb. The only time Jesus lets his disciples walk away was when they could not accept that we were to eat his body (John 6). The last supper was all about the Eucharist.

You're articulate & enjoyable to listen to. The scripture in John , of Jesus describing His holy Eucharist where He says "truly, truly" , i find it translated " solemnly , solemnly" . It's the only time He used that term ! I'm glad you included Jesus question to the apostles ---- "and will you leave me also ?" Jesus was insisting in the most severe kind of way , that they take Him AT HIS WORD or , take a hike ! That's how important the Holy Eucharist is. The Catholic mass is first and foremost - the holy sacrifice of the Mass. At each mass , the actual one-time-only sacrifice at Calvalry is literally brought to us. It's never a "repeat" of the preceding one , etc. It's not a reenactment of an old, old, event. That's the miracle. We are at Calvalry and should have the same absolute awe and reverence at each mass. To address the true presence of Jesus -- only men who have received holy orders ( ordination ) by a Catholic bishop , have the privilege of celebrating mass and bringing Jesus to us . Not even the highest-ranking angels can do this !! All the Christians on earth , wishing in concert all at once for one host to become Jesus , will have no effect. Only a priest has the office & authority to do this . •••••••••••••• i have a fantastic book to recommend which i believe is custom-tailored for your unique position in life as a liaison between Catholics & our Protestant brothers. The title is 'TRADITION AND THE CHURCH' The author is Msgr George Agius ,D.D.,J.C.D. It's the most lucid and comprehensible thing I've ever read , to give the reasonable and joyful assurance of the Catholic church being the one true church . God bless you and your family ! You're a joy to discover.

So as Catholics the generations didn’t stop with those two generations, It’s continuing now. All of our bishops are just the continuation of the apostles. They are the princes of the church. Jesus gave the apostles to power to forgive sins and our priests are in Persona Christi. The Bishops lay their hand to ordain the priest to give them the power to turn bread into the Body and Blood of Jesus, and to forgive sin. We just don’t confess our sins to a priest. We confess them to Jesus Himself. You feel so free after confession, it’s amazing. Oh, and your daughter is beautiful! You guys are going to make a great Catholic family.

Your understanding of the Eucharist is true, but is so much deeper. When the priest consecrates the bread and wine, we are mystically brought and are present at the foot of the cross at Christ's sacrifice. For a real good explanation of this miracle of miracles, read Scott Hahn' book "The Fourth Cup", or Brant Pitre's "Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist". Both plumb the depths and beauty of Catholic theology of the real presence of Jesus in the holy Eucharist.

Have you investigated more traditional Protestant sources like Martin Chemnitz's examination of the council of Trent or Francis Turretin's Elenctic Theology? On the Eucharist someone like Peter Martyr Vermigli's disputation and treatise on the Eucharist? I had a similar sort of interest on the Eucharist and it led me to become Reformed because of their very historical and scriptural view of the real presence.

I think Zwingli may have gone to far, but the quotes from Ignatius and Irenaeus could be understood from a Platonic/Lutheran perspective. I don't see any reason why we needed Thomas Aquinas to study Aristotle about 11 centuries later to find out what Communion really is.

Protestant, here👋 You don’t have to believe in transubstantiation to believe that Jesus is present in the Eucharist. ‘Cause, for goodness sake, isn’t He present in everything? And wouldn’t He especially be present in something that re-presents Him to us at a sacramental level? In Christ, all materiality becomes His physical presence, especially the Eucharist. I think words like “literal, symbol or spiritual” are unhelpful when referring to the presence of Christ in the Eucharist. His presence in the Eucharist is a mystery, therefore I believe it’s more safe to say that He’s mystically present in the Eucharist, and that the bread and the wine mystically become His body and blood.

Jn.6 - Context. 53-55 are toward the end of a longer teaching. Jn.6:35 "Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst." Bread not flesh. It is equated with coming to Jesus and believing in Him. The following verses develop this idea. vss.41-42 "Therefore the Jews were grumbling about Him, because He said, “I am the bread that came down out of heaven.” They were saying, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does He now say, ‘I have come down out of heaven’?” The stumbling part is not about eating but about the origin of Jesus. Vss.46-48 "“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life. “I am the bread of life." Again what he is talking about is believing not literal eating. Vss.49-50 "Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. “This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die." Literal eating brings death, belief brings life. It is not until Vs.51 that jesus first mentions flesh, and it is a prediction of his death on the cross not the Last Supper. If the Last Supper were the giving of his flesh he could have just sent a matzo cracker to the Jewish leaders and let them torture that. The Last Supper pointed symbolically forward to the real sacrifice that He was about to make. Breaking the bread wasn't the sacrifice itself, it pointed forward to the sacrifice.

7:29 - The Last Supper was a Passover meal. Jesus took the BREAD not the lamb of the Passover meal. When we say that Jesus is the Lamb of God, we don't believe that he was no longer human. It is symbolic not literal.

I would precise that Jesus says about the bread: This is my body, but to the Apostles: Do this in memory of me. The bread he has in his hands becomes his Body, but what the Apostles will do will be in remembrance of Christ. The Eucharist is the Body of Christ; the priests are not Christ, they act, do, in remembrance of Christ.

Moses and the 72 elders had a banquet with G_d where they saw the "face" of G_d. The Jewish priests had the Bread of Presence aka "the Bread of the Face" in the temple because it was in the presence of G_d. Three times a year at the feasts of Passover, Pentecost, and Tabernacles the Jewish priests showed the people the "face of G_d" by showing the Bread of the Presence and announcing this is G_d's love. The Jewish priests would hold up the Bread of Presence in the same way that the priest in the Catholic Church holds up the Eucharist today. If it was a new Passover, then why didn’t Jesus take the roasted flesh of the Passover lamb and identify it as His body? Why did He focus instead on the bread and wine and choose to identify the bread and wine so intimately with Himself? Where did He get the idea that bread and wine could somehow represent a person? If you are a first-century Jew, and you are talking not just about the presence of a human being but about the presence of G_d, the notion that bread and wine could be signs of the divine presence was something that would have been driven home at least three times a year: Passover, Pentecost, and Tabernacles. At each of these Feasts the golden table of the Bread of the Presence would be brought out for the pilgrims to see, and the jewish priests would declare: “Behold, G_d’s love for you!” The meeting where Melchizedek (priest-king) gives Father Abraham bread/wine is not a random incident, it is a theophany fulfilled by Christ, this is why all Catholic priests belong to the Order of Melchizedek. Jesus has re-established a pre-Aaronic priesthood. Jesus, son of David is re-establishing a Davidic kingdom (Sam2): He is the King, His mother is the Gebirah and Peter is His al-bayith/steward (Isaiah 22:20). In the same way He reunites the two split offices (NASI and AB) of the Jewish high priesthood in the person of Peter when He gives him the Keys of governance.

Why can't you follow through with your conviction that the Catholic church is the one united church that Jesus founded and lives today , and become a practicing Catholic , while continuing your youth ministry at the Protestant church ? I understand you need an income of course. Would you be fired if you became a Catholic? If you'd be fired , maybe they're not so Christian after all.

Hi Nate , the Holy Eucharist is the real "deal-breaker" in discriminating between Catholics and Protestants. The exstensive knowledge you exhibited about the "infant" Church after Pentecost , is really refreshing. I need to put on sunglasses . The light emanating from your face may hurt my eyes. You're such a joy , and what a good parent you are ! I respectfully want you to consider one thing however. Wishing , wanting , believing -- that Jesus is present in any Protestant church service doesn't make it so. Consider the danger of adoring Jesus in the bread , if the bread remains bread ! That action becomes blasphemy in the truest sense. Be careful. Have you picked up on learning that SATAN worshippers have something called a "black mass" ? Which is using a consecrated Host stolen from a CATHOLIC churches' tabernacle , and abusing Him in the most unspeakable ways possible - not in hatred of Catholics , but in pure HATRED OF JESUS HIMSELF. They don't go to Baptist , Lutheran , Episcopalian , Methodist , or any other variety of protestant church to commit the theft. The world at large is indifferent to Jesus in this Holy sacrament , but LUCIFER sure as hell knows where our Lord Jesus is !
