God not making mistakes is open to question. If you believe the creation myth or other biblical myths, why did he make people with tonsils, appendixes, and wisdom teeth that become impacted?

Our Tonsils and Appendix are still used by, if not completely necessary to, our bodies. We were ripping out Tonsils and claiming the Appendix was redundant and vestigial; not because God actually put in extra and/or defective parts, but because Medicine is not an exact or perfect science.* We have adapted to different diets than our distant ancestors, and our physiology changed, so many people's jaws can no longer handle their Wisdom Teeth. But we needed them for millions of years, which is a LOT longer than the few generations that we have had to have them removed. And if we're going to be honest, many, if not most times, our suffering in Life, is from the consequences of our own actions, not by a bad serve from nature. However, the most egregious thing about your comment, is saying that illness, injury or defect, are God "making mistakes". Life was set in motion, and for the most part, God does little to interfere. And in this system, sometimes, the other things in life, just beat you. If I make Widgets and the machine messes up and turns out a bad Widget, does that mean Widgets are a bad idea, or does it mean that Life just isn't "perfect"? I think the problem is, you expected a perfect life, one where you wanted for nothing, never got sick or hurt, had to simply think it, and God gave it to you, like a genie dolling out wishes. We had that life - IN THE GARDEN - we chose independence and Free Will. Now we bitch when we have to work for things, or compete or lose, or Heaven forbid, things aren't "perfect". And we have not changed, some of us bitch when our governments won't treat us like babies and provide for our every need, while others would rather have freedom over security. I do not need nor want a God that does everything for me, I want a God that gives me what I need to do everything for myself. And if Nature should deal me a bad hand, then that God give me the knowledge and strength, to play the hand I was dealt. Good topic. Glad to see more conversation about the gnostics and their own beliefs. The Apocryphon of John argues the Serpent in the Garden was Jesus himself. Some claim that in the Gospel of John, which has many gnostic overtones, is losely making the gnostic point that Jesus was also there in the beginning. Orthodoxy makes that same point too just that Jesus manifests in a different way. But one can't help but also notice Jesus teachings challenged the older orthodoxy of law, a manifestation of Yahweh and this was further argued by Paul to validate Faith and Grace over the harsh outcomes of the older system of law. In a certain sense, Jesus and Paul could be seen as offering a new fruit once forbidden and the present orthodoxy of their day wanted to keep it so in order to maintain the Garden they had built. I'm not arguing any of this as true or absolute but as a thought exercise, I am fascinated enough to engage it. I'm also not a bible literalist nor do I think the bible as perfect nor without error or contradiction. Everything I said above can even be contradict by the bible itself but then those arguements are also contradicted by the bible itself. So what does that say? Cue The Serpent! 😉

The garden is, was, within us. The tree represented the possibility for sin, freefom of choice to do evil. The serpent represented part of us that has a curiosity to do evil, freedom of choice. When we fell, the serpent, now our carnal nature, was cursed to the ground, which is what represents the carnal(why Christ wrote in the ground at the stoming of the adulterress). Our carnal nature has been cast to the ground. We no longer had a perfect relationship with God. The tree of life is our nervous system(manifest as, the tree is actually spirituality us). Since we left God, God can not refuel our soul as is needed so we cant live innthis body forever.
