The Tree of Knowledge. It's called SCIENCE. Science is about Truth, whatever the Truth is and wherever it leads you. Science is not a fixed body of knowledge. Science changes as knowledge changes and deepens. It is POSSIBLE that there may be an overarching "intelligence" in the universe and ruling the universe. It would be a Pantheistic entity along the lines of what Benedict (Baruch) Spinoza envisaged. Its distance from a parochial little Jewish / Christian god would be unfathomably huge. A little god, that (allegedly) made his "chosen people" wander round the Sinai peninsula for FORTY YEARS, because he was a bit miffed at them. You can WALK across Sinai in 3 or 4 days.

But to the Gnostics, it WAS evil, an inferior god, which they called "Yaldabaoth," a miscarriage begotten by the Goddess, Sophia, which she produced, without first consulting with the Godhead. The Gnostics believed that since it created physical reality, the physical World was also evil, and Jesus, being GOOD, was pure spirit, without a physical body.

The whole concept of "Original Sin" is the PERFECT MARKETING PLAN. It is brilliant in its simplicity. You are human, THEREFORE you are Damned, by definition.
