Mr. Dojo, you have a valid point. When I started my Festool journey 4+ years ago, I saw this issue as well. Working out of a two car garage that still had to house my wifes car at the end of the day, my space is extremely limited. I saw two options, 1) do as you and others have done and de-box everything and condense them down by hanging some on the wall or finding draw space for others, etc. 2) Embrace the systainers and go-all-in by not only leaving the tools in the systainers, but also buying more and using them to hold and store all my other tools and accessories. I chose option #2. Currently I have four sys-carts and a shelve holding 44 systainers (at last count). Yes it is a pain at this point but my plan is to build a systainer wall cabinet with draw's on the bottom for the larger and heavier tools and shelves for the sys1-2 or m112-187, or something like that. Other projects keep pushing this project back so time will tell if I made the right choice. All the Best, Chuck

Me too Chuck I’m keeping all mine, I’ve got a systainer build planned if I ever get time to build it!! 🙄

I agree. This could be dealt with with: 1. A greater implementation of modularity on the inside and / or 2. Far more configurability at purchase time to configure the contents based on what you currently have. 3. Options for collapsing 2 tools in 1 Systainer into 2 tools in one Systainer sans batteries / chargers. This is a straightforward problem to solve, certainly for software, because we know the dimensions of the tools, Systainers etc. I also agree with your observation that in a workshop, the batteries live somewhere else.

Just buy kaizen foam and sell systainers that end up empty.

There is always ways to organise them, easy to dust down a small shop or garage. Ultimately if you want your tools to last, keep them safe, dust free, the systainer is probably the best box ever. Or... You can always fork out more dough on festool foam pads.😜 They do also make foam grid bits for you to make your own combinations too 204942 / 204946 - brilliant for carrying the smaller tools.

Isn’t the whole point of the Festool system to be a mobile/transportable/modular workshop?

Good point, but I don't think they're mutually exclusive. I think there's a lot of empty space/air in these systainers and everyone could benefit from them being more condensed; both workshop workers and mobile workers.

I get your point. However, isn‘t that a problem of all kind of boxes for cordless powertools (Systainers, L-Boxxes, …) ? Once you start buying bare or solo versions of tools without batteries and charger you get a big systainer (or L-Boxx or whatever) with a lot of unused space…

But bosch offeres it's tools without batteries, chargers or l boxxes. They ship them in a cardboard box.

Wait t’il you see the Cordless Track saw from Milwaukee Fuel! It’s twice the size of the Festool track saw. Would you prefer getting a 20$ bag to throw the tool with battery and charger in it? The majority of people want their power tool to come in some sort of box instead of a bag. The power tools are much more protected than inside a bag! Love your videos !! Keep them coming!

Second vid of yours I’ve watched now. The first was from two years ago. T lock vs gen 3. I’ve got some tanos boxes now. Two weeks and they are getting really beaten up on site. Too weak.
