I find the handle on the lid gets easier to use over time. Annoying to use regardless. I just picked up the new SYS3 S which replaced the Mini T Loc. They have the same annoying to use locking lid handle.

This is just a Festool fan boy getting paid for claiming without any reasoning that the tool is great. What a waste of Festool’s money. It is actually a very good tool that does much more than “cutting nails”. There are many better YTs showing what a multitool can do. The reason for paying twice the price for a Festool multitool is the superb engineering, the innovative accessories and the peerless after-sales service.

Festool is the most affordable option. So for someone like me who’s building a diy table, then it works out decent.

Where I am this cost the same as the MFK700 trim router. It maybe actually be more expensive. I am a cabinet maker installer and my old work place did buy this set but I literally only used the driver handle, the 3, 5 and 10mm drill bits, the #2 sq and pz, the self centering bit and two if the 3 5mm counter sink pilot bits and the set only comes with one we had to buy the second one separately and to be honest we really needed a 3 not a 3.5mm. I will say, the brad point and twist drill bits are very good and the sharpest Ive ever used tho!

From what I can tell, the barrel-grip jigsaw is the only one that would work for me as a lefty. The safety on the d-handle is in the wrong place for me.

Take a router and round the corners of the MDF. One of the other problems (besides absorbing water) with the MDF is that it breaks off sharp corners very, very easily.

The circle attachment is great. Also get the plastic base so you can screw it onto a board and have the carvex upside down a bit like a bandsaw/scroll saw. Next the angle base is great for angle mitre like type cuts. Takes a bit of handling but works well. The other bases are neither here nor there. You can simply put tape on the base to stop scratches so no need for the extra bases. Get a Collins coping foot for the carvex if you do baseboard scribing. I love the ease of changing bases. Hate the blade adjustment with a stupid Allen key, very annoying.

They are good for cutting down low but not so much hi up on ladders I prefer a 2 gallon bucket with a pot hook a grid weenie roller and brush in one ...

I heard from several people that the older Trion is better than the Carvex. More accurate among other things. I was surprised. Do you have any thoughts on this?
@HeadBroski4 ай бұрын
Seems like a real roundabout way of doing this. You can also simply scribe a line 37mm from an edge, butt the wood up to one of the stop latches and then align the guide with the scribe marking. Both stop latches are 37mm from center of the bit.

I check my MFT with large Woodpeckers square EVERY TIME I make a cut. It is not a reliable piece of equipment. Just discovering Dashboard. I love most of my Festool tools but the MFT has far too often given me cuts shy by 1mm. No bargain when making cabinets.

Anyone realised that the old Top handle just flips in place when thread in the top systainer to an bottom one? So even if you forgot to fold the handle down, no problem as you have to come in from the front to loc(k) it in place. The old one.... not so smart. Yea, maybe if you store Systainers in a rack, but otherwise the 'wrong direktion' top handle is 'improvable'.

I’m afraid I’m in the probable majority of DIYers that can’t afford (or justify the cost of) this mft, so I really can’t attest to the quality of the product at all. What I can say is that I’ve just bought an mft for a quarter of the price, quality probably not as good but it’s very portable and stable once erected. So, it may not be as good (again, I wouldn’t know because I don’t have one), but I could replace this one four times before incurring the cost of the Festool.

I dont see the thinking behind picking the multitool as its a Fein machine just clad in festool plastics with some clever attachments . I have it but id happily trade it for the Fein machine and take the Festool Domino as no one else makes one . Then probably the CTL midi then the Kapex but neither are revolutionary just best in field.

I think you describe a common issue amongst all the jigsaw who has this kind of design and we see this from all major tool makers... I also like the traditional handle/trigger combo

I have the whole Festool range maybe 20k deep just now jigsaw i use the barrel grip makita 12v most of the time and makita 18v for heavy work , the 12v makita is amazing. Both of Festools jigsaws are terrible, the lack of visibility and angle base is shocking. Would love to see you try one to see what you think of it . Other than that i use mafell routers the lo55 its lightyears ahead . The lack of a cordless planer and the lack of a small cordless 165mm circular saw have always baffled me , again makita fills that void

The old one is perfect for stacking, the new one for sliding into a rack, for example in a van. Stacking the new ones is annoying. The new handle design makes it awkward, but there is no other way in making them suitable for a rack system like bott.

I’m from the US and woodwork in metric. It’s a far superior system and I’ll never understand why the US refuses to adopt. I use the 32mm system to build cabinets. Also I love Festool but Fastcap make the best tape measure and they have a lot of variations of tapes.

As someone else mentioned, this is just a rebranded Wera Rapidaptor but that's not a complaint as the Rapidaptor is excellent. Also, if anybody else is a bit of a nerd for colour matching like I am, and own a Milwaukee, look for the Hilti bit set which comes with a red version. I'm just sad that nothing can be done about the back and forth play in the FDDX and it feels a bit ridiculous to be using one locking bit holder to hold another, only because the built in one on my Milwaukee is too deep to effectively use these smaller bits. Also like someone else mentioned, having this kind of holder built in would have been perfect. Even the bit holder on my Ryobi impact is much better than this one on the FDDX, with no back and forth play, plus it's ejection feature, making one handed changes easy. Okay, now I'm just ranting 🤣

I think Festool's position on this is affordability vs 'cost to make' vs functionality vs accuracy. For most Festool users who use this stuff on location is the stock hinge good enough, but many contractors I see don't bother with the hinge at all. That might be why revisions to this piece of kit haven't been made. Having said that, I seriously doubt that they would bother to develop their rail hinge to a standard that could better the quality of Dashboard, for example. Seems they're better off concentrating on the power tool division R&D.

I commented in your other Carvex video you should have gotten the D handle version because of the speed trigger. Then you actually made the switch before I saw this video :D You can hold the D version like the barrel grip version when you cut from underneath, but you can also use the speed trigger on the handle when you cut from the top. It pretty much gives you both options how to hold and use it.
@phillong4209 ай бұрын
First off, the shape of the jigsaw is really old and is the most common form on the european continent that professionals use. It's because it's the best form to cut from underneath to avoid tearout on top. In your case it would have made sense to actually get the Carvex with the D grip as you can hold it like a barrel grip jigsaw, but also like a classic D version. It has a classic speed trigger with a lock mechanism in the D handle, plus the 2 on/off switches. I also found the switches on the side a bit awkward to use when turning the machine off and that it takes some time to get the blade guides adjusted properly. The Carvex for sure works best with the golden Festool blades. There is a reason why they put the name Carvex on those blades.
