Hi to your mom! My nose constantly runs on bike rides, especially once the air starts getting cool. I always tuck a couple of tissues in my bags before going out in the cooler weather. And yeah, the hay fever started here early in the States too. That's a lovely area you were biking. As for UCI rides, you ride your ride. Whatever makes you happy. That's what cycling's all about.

Hello dear Juliet. I have a 'timber!' mountain bike bell, you can let it ring or not by using a little lever. It sounds like a little dog bell and people love that because it is not an agressive sound.

Two options. Either a really loud free hub or garmin 1050 and set the bell up to use one of the extra shifter buttons, if the grx has extra buttons.

Actually that’s a good point, one of my MTBs has a ridiculously loud Syntace freehub that I hated at first but then realised people heard it coming so I don’t have a bell on that bike.

Love that you like the techy gravel stuff. Likely ragweed and/or mold allergy. I get it too around fall time. Yeah, certain timings of the bell can rub some walkers up for some reason. May not helped being on a path by mistake. The best one walkers thank us! Or at least let us know in some way they have heard us coming. Many on headphones these days. I found a big bell standard bell (but not the tring tring type) that came with a bike from Evans works best. Louder than the tiny bells, even those that claim to be high db. Perhaps not as cool looking is the downside! But really works well to have a louder one! Can get ones that go in the space of headset spacers, not tried one, but seem interesting. Also elec ones too that are cheap and low weight. Just have to charge them!

I recently started using a bell when riding in popular areas and it definitely works well, you just have to time it right and give a ding ding before you get too close. I'm just using a cheapo one that came free with a bike.

A bell is absolutely necessary when gravelling in my region in the weekends. Lots of people with dogs out walking. I like my Knogg Oi bell. Pretty minimal, but has a pleasing sound, which people aren't too mad about when you ring it. I like people not getting mad at me.

Ah the bell question. I always have a bell but just as often I will just say something like “may I pass on your left?” It is a crap shoot really. Some people seem startled by the bell if you are too close. MANY have in earbuds so nothing works.

Always always give your chain and pulley wheels a wipe down after every ride! I find using a microfibre cloth with a little bit of wd40 sprayed on to it quite effective. Then re apply lube once you start to 'hear' the chain more than normal.

Bell - Granite Cricket. Just brilliant for shared use routes on a gravel bike. Leave it in constant jingle mode and you’ll gently alert people and animals to your presence a fair way back without it being a deliberate’Ding Ding!’ ‘Out of my way!’ Action that’s as likely to annoy or startle. If you have it turned off ‘jingle’ mode, or if it’s just too smooth to jingle loudly, you can still ding it manually. And it’s less than £20. Honestly it has worked so well and never had a negative response. Even horses aren’t freaked out as they’ve heard you coming for a while and the constant jingle helps them gauge how far you are away, if that makes sense… I have a much louder and chunkier Timber! Bell on my MTB where I might be belting along down a hill and a bit more urgency and volume is required. It’s a lot more pricey too.
@jerryb633 ай бұрын
Oh I should mention it has a flaw, but there’s a 30 second fix. The striker, or ‘dangly donger’ if you prefer, is held on by a tiny loop of fine spring wire. The lump of metal striker can fall off, so once I’d found it I put a little blob of araldite on the ends of the wire. Solder would be even better but that’s a lot more faffery and not everyone had a soldering iron.

The Timber Mountain Bike Bell is nice and just jangles a little so people can hear you coming. But you can never win though. If I say "excuse me" people say "where's your bell?!" and if I ring a bell people say "stop ringing your bell at me". But the Timber bell is a nice jangly sound though and about as pleasant as there is. Other than that get one of those clown horns and have a laugh at least. :)

Basil Wonderlust Bell. It sounds like a doorbell, with two comforting tones. Most pedestrians I pass like the sound and are relaxed as I slow down and carefully pass them. Hi Juliet. Do you get the streaming eyes/nose in Devon or just Yorkshire? The change of air could trigger an immune response. Was it happening prior to all the dental work you’ve had done recently? Tooth and gum health is closely linked to all ear,nose and throat issues due to the channels in the facial bones. Deep root fillings, extractions and abscesses will all play havoc with your immune response.❤
