Sorry, just here to vent. I've only ever been a buyer on Mercari. I've never returned anything. And now I'm being charged ridiculously outrageous fees if I buy something, just so I could return it if I wanted to? Makes no damn sense! There's a $530 item I want right now, but once it's in my cart the total is over $650 😤 So I'm DONE with Mercari...

yeah as a buyer, the buyer fees are ridiculous. its not worth buying somethings when you can find the same product in the main market space for cheaper.

They have huge fee's now for buyers. I have bought a TON of items off there. No more going to other sites, $150 item is now $210 and the delivery fee is $8.

I totally agree! Very bad for the buyer. I only buy on Mercari, but no more! One of the fees is for payment processing. Ok, I think I can live with that. The other fee is a "service fee." This fee is for "it helps us improve Mercari's features and your experience." Uh, this is why I don't shop at brick and mortar! I don't want to pay for "my experience." I just want to pay for a good product! Whatever it may be! I think sales are going to drop!

Why would I buy a $115 sweater that comes out to $150 after fees when can i go to poshmark and buy same sweater for $120-125. This is one of the WORST decisions i have seen from app. This is like walmart charging me a yearly fee to use self checkouts what a joke!

MERCARI is RIP-OFF for buyers with TWO Additional fees to buyers!!! - and they are very high! For a $21 item I am being invoiced $2.31 Service fee AND $1.41Proocssing Fee. After my shipping fee and cost of item is added, and then my 7.7% sales tax is added, the item will cost me $32.73. And even if you bundle, each item will have both these fees added to them. What good is it to have better deals for sellers and higher costs to buyers if buyers will no longer buy from them. Mercari had high profits last year. This is just corporate greed. Goodbye Mercari. I made about 200 purchases from them last year, but I am leaving Mercari for good! I got two words for Mercari, and they ain't "Happy Birthday!"

Zip is only on Mercari. I do sell my kids out grown clothes and toy's on Mercari and I use them cause it is so easy to list being a busy Mom. Only have had 2 people out of 1,000 sales that asked for return, I said yes as a seller and the customer never went through with the return. Have had 1 item never make it to the buyers house, and this person lived in my town, Mercari paid me and gave buyer their money back. 2 buyers have said they never got their item yet USPS said they delivered it, I was paid both times. I have absolutely no problem with this new set up and will continue to use Mercari cause it is easy being a busy Mom. Thanks for your video.

I don't know why they bitching about the $2 withdraw fee With no selling fee I thinking people ain't doing the math. when they make this comment I think it just the ones that pulled their money out every time they get a little sale If you have a couple hundred dollars. in your balance the $2 is not a big deal And they fussing about the return policy It's a very short window. 3 days It's not like a 30-day return policy 3 days can go past fast Look if the customer rate you before they try to return it. @@stevenssbargainbarn2294 Because most sellers don’t sell massive numbers… I sell one item every 2 to 3 months if I’m lucky. And as far as selling fees go, the buyer is just going to subtract that from their offer. So you’ll have to pay it either way you look at it. Charging withdrawal fees to get access to your own funds is bad business any way you slice it.

The problem is charging buyers the fees. It comes to way more than 10% for the buyer. The seller never paid a fee because it’s a tax write off. Mercari wants to get interest on your money by holding it to avoid some of the fee to the buyer. This is scummy and will cause many buyers to cancel out of purchasing from the platform.

So far this was the most level headed take on the Mercari fee debate ive heard so far. I have seen way too many other youtubers getting pitchforks over the changes say they are bad. Thank you for keeping us informed and actually doing some research instead of knee jerk reactions for other youtubers. I believe this is way better for the sellers and buyers. The amount of inventory they will get will in turn get more money (sales). Also you are right about the returns. People return stuff on Ebay all the time for no valid reasons so what's the difference now with Mercari?

As a buyer, I see we are being screwed big time. We refuse to pay two additional high fees and we are leaving Mercari. And sellers are lowering prices to "compensate" for fees we buyers now pay . . . That sounds dumb. You are losing money right there just to avoid paying seller fees. Mercari is getting over on both sellers and buyers. Goodbye Mercari-am outta here!

My main issue with the new change is the free-for-all return policy. We aren't Amazon and can easily swallow buyer's remorse for items that was new when shipped and now is used coming back.

I have done decently with Mecari and I am planning to continue doing most of my online selling there. I learned a lot from your videos when I was choosing what online venture to use. Interestingly I have never had a return on Mecari. I see withdrawal fee as an unavoidable expense. I am nowhere near a bulk listing like you have but I have done alright and a lot of it has to do with concepts learned from you

I generally find that buyers aren’t stupid and they adjust their offer to market value….i like to use mercari as a final mark down destination on Collectable hard goods. I agree it’s not a site for the eBay super seller and actually buy using my balance not as arbitrage but usually treats for myself and you can sometimes find better deals on mercari because it’s a person that just wants to rehome their item.

I am with you. Not sure why people got all bent out of shape about the $2 fee to retrieve your money. Also the updated return policy has rattled feathers but I don't see the return rate going up much. People are buying items to keep them not to return them within 3 days of receiving them. Most sane take I've heard on this. Was insanely easy for me to just go through my thousand items yesterday and adjust to the new changes. A whole lot less math to do without taking fees into account, and sales have been steady (22 items, 10 sales) over the last 24hrs. I'm here for the ride, not the doom and gloom. My thought is to change all my higher value items to free shipping to help offset excess buyers cost.

The only problem is the buyers are paying more no matter how you slice the pie. The fees mercari is making is more and they are using this as a excuse. YOU have to charge less to offset what mercari is taking more from. Thus why they made a "automatically lower prices option" they know what they are doing. I sell on mercari and also buy so i noticed this right from the jump. The purpose of this is not for sellers to not have fees lkke they are promoting its actually for mercari to charge more at the sake of the buyers and sellers without them even paying attention. Sellers have a cash out fee and now buyers are paying upwards of almost 20% for a item extra plus shipping! The purpose of mercari is to get a good deal not pay more then retail after fees and ahipping. Another example i wanted a $25 cologne which sales for $33 retail. After checkout its $37 now im paying more then retail for a used bottle of cologne. Thiz is the true reason why they nees you to lower prices.

The issue I have with the $2 fee is that I made a sale 2 days before the change took effect so Mercari already took my seller fees and then I have to pay them another fee when I pull my funds. That transaction should have been grandfathered in.

I got scammed on Mercari and had to return it. Nothing but crap. Maybe this will weed out some of the scammers that post junk. Just recently started posting as a seller. Will wait and see. Heck when you go and withdrawal money out of an atm from your bank when it is not your bank you pay a fee.

The returns really affect small sellers who either haven't generated traffic enough to make up for losses or just arent doing it as a hustle. The trouble is it leaves people vulnerable for scams much easier b.c i think people are under the impression that fair due proccess like sending in picks of the products defects or whatever will not be as enforced and so anyone can take advantage. All i can say is wait and see how this all levels out🤷🏽‍♀️

The way that it appears to me is that the fees sellers used to pay, buyers now have to pay. No matter what platform you use, to either buy or sell, there will be fees. I'm okay with the 2$ ACH fee that Mercari is charging sellers to withdraw funds. I guess that no matter who is charged the fees, fees are part of buying/selling online. As a seller, I can lower my prices a bit since I'm not being charged the fees. My question is how long will this be the thing? Great video!

Not mentioned, I think maybe not aware, but referring to FBMP, They have just changed their policies, seller fees for items that are shipped are being changed to 10% seller fee, Local pickup still does not get hit with a Fee. We will continue on Mercari, we do well there and are perfectly happy with them. Good fair video though. Thank you. My only fear though is with over 2000 listings, they were quick enough to give me a tool that would reduce all prices by 10%, and I did, but I am afraid they are going to come back and split this and add a fee back to sellers, but I would bet they will not give us the same tool to raise all 2000+ listings by that same percentage.

The return aspect to the new TOS is really what I'm not happy with it. I think what would have made this better all around would have been 0% seller free but seller pays processing fee and transaction fee. And maybe offer returns on Clothing?

Mercari went in and dropped all my item prices by 10%. So not paying the seller fee is no longer a savings for me the seller. I’m shocked they can get away with that. Sellers set their own prices. I thought. I’m not upset by this really but I think it’s going to be a shit show ultimately.

It was a good idea, Mercari may have to fine tune this new plan in the coming months. Ebay’s fees are getting really high if you promote items, making it not worth the effort.

Mercari has no one to blame but themselves. The platform isn't setup or meant to be for full-time resellers. Sellers with huge stores don't want to sell on there cause the items go into a black hole after a few days after listing.

It doesnt seem like the worst thing to me, as a seller. Some buyers may be surprised to see additional fees when buying. However my price can be more competitive/lower with not having to pay fees. Also the way I feel about being charged 2 bucks to withdraw is that doesnt bother me. Because as long as I dont need to withdraw weekly then I should make more money off not having to pay the selling fees. I think it hurts buyers more but it may encourage more ppl to sell things to fund their purchasing habits. This is interesting. I hear some ppl are upset bc they feel blindsided by this...well you can always find somewhere else to go if you dont like what they are doing

I didn't know or agree to pay those ahead of time, but Mercari just took it without warning. I've deleted the app as that's BS. Mercari shouldn't dump fees (2 different fees) on people who are your buyers (and don't sell). We'll leave.

This us the problem . . . Selfish dog-eat-dog attitude. And evidently you don't care that we buyers are paying two additional high fees to cover the cost of "no fees to sellers". On $60 purchase they added $12 in fees, and my total was $80.23. I cancelled purchase. I quit buying on Mercari. Less buyers = less sales.

I assumed it was because they wanted to.shoot themselves in the face. I went to buy a $200 item. I was figuring on $20 in fees, including delivery. When I saw almost $60 in fees, I emaiked them to let them knkw where they could shove their fees, and closed my account. I think they're going to learn a hard lesson that consumers don't like fees. Or at.least they dont like SEEING fees. A buyer gets converted to a shopper when the amount they expected to spend goes up 25% at checkout. Put the fees back on sellers and let sellers up their prices to cover them, and make them invisible to buyers. If the buyer balks at the price or can't afford the item, they may be bummed, but they won't be pissed off like they will when they get Pearl Harbored with ridiculous fees at checkout. I doubt anyone who has ever bought anything on eBay actually believes in "free shipping", unless they also believe in the Easter Bunny. However, most buyers want an "out the door price" or very close to it. A bunch of of fees popping up puts people off as it smells like some used car salesman bullshit.
