The issue with Colossal's argument is that these people are sponsored to promote what's reasonably defined as a dangerous vice while being heavily helped through the process by the company. It's like being given the cleanest opioids from a rehab center while being paid to promote heroin. What the end user gets is *not* what the streamer is advertising, they do *not* get the funds the promoter gets and so desperately tries to brush off.

Colossal is kind of blind to how gambling is a vice that some cant shake. And the youth watching their favorite streamers gamble is really fucking bad. 40 years ago in Regan's presidency the FCC put leniency towards marketing to children which resulted in toy companies making cartoons. GI Joe, transfromers, He man, TMNT all had shows to sell toys and that line was blurred. We have 40 yearold man children who love and consume that shit still. Youths can have a life time impressions of what they watch.

Idk why colossal is playing defense for gambling websites, their goal is to get people hooked on gambling, he doesn't have to defend them as if that's not their strategy, they sponsor streamers and giving them millions to gamble themselves on stream because it results in a return. And when it comes to xqc, he has a larger younger audience, statistically there is going to be some kids that get hooked on gambling. His audience is more of a result that younger people find xqc appealing to watch, zoomers watching a zoomer streamer, its not like a jaystation situation and it's not likely the same age range, xqc's demographic is just more natural it's not really a slippery slope, people just have to stop thinking everyone is immune to marketing the way they are, laws or website guidelines that prevent this type of advertising and predatory practices are put in place to protect the vulnerable and easily influenceable (which kids are), just because it's not going to affect a majority of people that's not an actual reason to why we should stop caring

My problem with gambling streamers is that they don't play with their own money so they have nothing to lose so they can drop 10 mil in one hand which both makes it seem like over time 10 mill is a fine amount. They are also always pushing this idea of one more game. When train doesn't react to losing 10 mil of money that's not his the viewer who doesn't have 1 mil gets desensitized to losing large sums because train or xqc didn't care when they lost a lot more. Also I am fine if they get paid a sum upfront, I personally think a back pay is scummy because you are profiting off your viewers' losses but still, and I am fine with the company staking the streamer like 10-50k to play with. Because once they run through that 50k the streamer is playing with their own money and will probably be more careful which will demonstrate safe gambling. When a streamer is staked 1 mil or 2 mil and then as soon as they lose all of that the company has no problem fronting them another couple mil then they have no stake in the game personally, that money is given to them to be burned so they burn it in the most entertaining way possible which in the end desensitizes viewers to massive losses and it also promotes unhealthy gambling of "just throw a large sum on one game and if you loose gamble on the next game you can make it back, and if you win keep gambling you are up so why not make more."

Beer commercials have disclaimers about drinking responsibly. Daily fantasy sports ads on the radio have disclaimers about gambling responsibly. I don't see the problem in treating gambling streams for what they are, advertisements for gambling, and giving them associated disclaimers. Gambling has the potential for ruining lives. It's easy to say "they can go and gamble if they want to" when it doesn't affect you, but it often does affect people other than the person gambling. In this and other ways it can be very similar to a substance abuse problem. Children watching a stream are only part of the potential problem. I'm not against gambling at all, I agree with Clown that people should be able to do what they want to do. And I have no problem with streamers getting paid to gamble on stream. I just think there needs to be, at a minimum, an age gate and a strong disclaimer.

Nerd, slots are NOT like a lottery; they're not random at all. Real life slot machines have a "return to player" ratio that is decided by the vendor. I'm assuming this is true for the app versions as well. That's how casinos make money off slots and why most people lost slightly more than they win. Jackpots are possible, but unlikely. What I'm saying is, slots are usually rigged, no at all random like the lottery which can actually be played like a very long game of chance; you can predict the likelihood of certain numbers coming up. Related, supposed "skill crane" machines use a same win:loss ratio setting. The vendor decides how many plays it takes to win the big prizes. While some highly skilled players can cheat a little to win more often the difference is slight, at best. Those crane game players here on youtube are usually playing their own machines or have access to the settings through a friend, as I'm sure you know, and give themselves a 100% win rate while filming. Much of gaming/gambling content online is rigged. Poker is one of few games that requires actual skill and knowledge.
@knixie2 жыл бұрын
i guess really the thing to realize is all "gambling" is not really random
@nerdcity2 жыл бұрын
It sounds like we agree, actually. I still see a similarity, particularly for scratch-off lottery tickets. Aren't they meant to return a fixed ratio of funds back to players, but where the Lottery Board is left with more funds than they've paid out? Was just meant as an analogy for games of chance with no skill required to play
