To clarify, Cinema enthusiasts and actual "filmmakers" WILL still buy this camera, people who are looking for a reliable B-camera WILL buy this camera. It's also GREAT! I ultimately feel as tho more than ever, people have just grown to love full frame, autofocus, and ease of use. How do you feel tho?

You summarized my thoughts perfectly. Had they nailed the autofocus it would be a different story. I started on GH2 and have used many other Panasonic bodies. Ultimately I switched over to Sony for reliable autofocus. I have the A7sIII and FX3 and every time I shoot with them I love them more. There's no way I'd go backwards.

Definitely disagree with the full frame and autofocus. But I'm coming from a cinema world mainly television and short films. Full manual is the best because there's 100% control. Full frame is cool, but it's not going to outright kill off super 35 in cinema.

Gh6 and other panasonic cameras are by far the most user friendly experiences in the camera world. From features to ergonomics to ui design they reign as king. They have subpar, but still usable af as their one and only weakness. As for full frame? I see no benefit to it whatsoever unless you shoot in absurdly low light or high contrast. Full frame is demonstrably inferior when using long lenses in terms of weight, cost,reach, and pixels on subject. Using short lenses it's largest benefit is shallower dof and better low light capabilities. But this is just hair splitting because the majority of the human population feels like their iPhone takes amazing lowlight photos and equally feels m43 and ff do too. The image quality from small sensors has already reached the threshold that the populace cares about. Ultimately with ff you get a tool that is better in a few specific ways, worse in others, and that nobody will every really appreciate the enhanced quality from.
@AReallyBigDay
@AReallyBigDay 2 жыл бұрын
Too little too late! Who's investing in that M43 ecosystem and what would be the incentive vs Canon or Sony? You can't tell me that this is superior in anyway to the a7siii/fx3. And canon is about to drop the ULTIMATE hybrid camera of all time. It's pretty hard to leave FF, alien AF, canon color, 8k60 (R5C) or super low light 4k 120(A7S3), internal RAW, 45MP photos, and more; for...... what exactly? It's a flop. Beautiful though and the video you shot with it was immaculate. I'm sure ppl will still buy it here and there but it was a real missed opportunity.

Before watching: I can tell you I’ve been shooting solely on MFT since 2019 and only in 2021 did I finally “go back” to full frame in getting the Canon R6. Obviously only for the autofocus. When you’re well adjusted with your craft and creativity, exactly what you use doesn’t matter as much. I’ve had better results shooting with my Z-Cam and GH5 than my R6 because even though the autofocus works I feel like my GH5 is easier to get a good look with, it feels better in my hand, and shoots unlimited video / doesn’t overheat. Who cares about full frame anymore? Sure if I had unlimited funds I’d ONLY own full frame. But that isn’t yet the case. Idk maybe I’ve used MFT so long im just more comfortable with it but I’ve owned everything from ab a7s ii, a7 iii, Gh5, R6, Z cam and the MFT cameras have been my favorites and easiest for me to get my final look. Canon is technically “easier”. But i just don’t have that same experience as everyone else raving about it. And I’ve owned the camera for a year now.

I think the GH6 appeals to the pure filmmakers, what I mean by that is, filmmakers with aspirations beyond the youtube landscape, people who are NOT merely one-man-bands, pointing cameras at themselves… The whole appeal of FF, stems from photographers transitioning into videographers thinking that is filmmaking. Which is so far from the truth. Concepts like, Shallow depth of Field, is a photographers obsession that is overrated in filmmaking. Used to capture a specific images or scenes frozen in time, which is practically antithetical to filmmaking, which records moments in time that could last from seconds to hours. Not to mention, in most cases, a dynamic scene constantly in motion… Traditional film cameras are not High Megapixel sensors, which is why they never use to ever mention it as a specification. They were Hi-Resolution, which is why the Sony A7SIII is still a 12mp camera and so is the GH5S. They achieve 4K very well and are fit for purpose. When people decry a lack of megapixels for video cameras, you can immediately write them off as ignorant, clueless, or just plain naive… Super35 was and still is pretty much the cinematic standard, which for those you playing the home version, is basically APS-C equivalent. Bokeh the complementary effect of Shallow Depth of Field, again overrated and maybe necessary when used sparingly for dramatic affect. Which brings up the subject of AF. Crucial for cinematography on big budget projects, as time is money and millions are at stake. To be fair, the shot schedules and scenes are generally set, so one can pre plan so to speak… So is AF useful to the run and gun or documentary style filmmaker, fair play, valid point. But also neither crucial nor entirely necessary. Literally, a stylistic approach, or workflow choice. KZbinrs, are a different animal and a specific case scenario. Then there is the hybrid being categorized under Solo KZbinr/Filmmaker, someone not strictly relegated to filming oneself in room/ studio space/ basement, may shoot events, or aspire to film production projects. Now, addressing the topic in hand. The improvements to AF have advanced and is relative. Canon, Sony, Nikon, Fuji, Pentax, Sigma, OM/ Olympus, and Panasonic, all have excelled from six years ago, with the exception of Blackmagic. I also do not feel people are trying to fake FF aesthetics with Cropped Sensors (6:13). The statement prior (4:50) What is beyond and who has veered is subjective… So NO, I don’t think the Canon EOS R6 will be the ultimate demise of the Panasonic Lumix GH6. I have used the R6 and it overheated constantly. It got to the point where after twenty minutes of filming, we had stop for ten minutes to allow for cooling down. The GH6 will not flop, people who are itching for something new will purchase, and some will always like shiny new things. It’s main problem lies in those who feel the GH5 already is perfect, and it simply does what is needed. The GH5 suffered somewhat from those who felt the GH4 was adequate. Even those who felt similarly about the GH3… In conclusion:(Quote paraphrased) All one really needs to take a great photo or capture an amazing scene, is a camera… …

The best comments i have ever seen on You Tube regarding the situation right now with videography. Point 1: Bokeh is for photographers, most Cinematographers do not care. I've made a living shooting on the GH5 since 2017. What ever fits the user and your workflow the best is what to go with! I prefer a lightweight and quick setup. Having the ability to use small MFT lenses, S35 , Full Frame , and Anamorphic is awesome. So many attractive option in the market these days. I personally don't need AF or Full Frame. Although it would be nice to have, and considering making the switch. But is just having those two options would cost around $10k of new bodies and lenses. So really it's just more depth of field and low light from the sensor. I rarely need to shoot using 1600 iso so just having the option to shoot at 2000iso with DR boost I don't think low light is an issue anymore with the GH6. I would love to try out the Sirui Anamorphics and 2x anamorphics on there!

Let me start with, I am not a filmmaker or cinematographer, I'm a stills photographer. I shoot street, reportage, photojournalism, portraiture, and fine art. When I look at gear for my kit, video functionality and autofocus are not my top decision-making variables. That said, I'm a former MFT shooter. I've shot both Panasonic LUMIX and Olympus OM cameras. However, I preferred the LUMIX line of cameras and the Olympus line of lenses. Eventually, I transitioned from MFT to Fujifilm APS-C and Fujifilm along with Leica and the LUMIX S5 makes up my kit today. I primarily shoot manual focus M mount lenses because I like the control and I can replicate my film camera shooting experience as well. I said all of that to say, I bought the S5 because it's full-frame and because eventually, I will add video to my catalog of services for my clients. To me, as long as the S5 exists, the GH6 makes no sense as a new purchase. I think Panasonic created that camera 2 years too late and that it was created for diehard MFT LUMIX users looking for something that will allow them to utilse their existing MFT lens collection. If you're adept at what you do as a photographer or videography, most cameras today can do pretty much anything it's ultimately all about your ability to use those features on your camera to achieve the result you desire. I think the MFT ecosystem will eventually go away when you consider the costs of good full-frame cameras from Canon, Nikon, Sony, and LUMIX. If I were Panasonic and OM Systems (formally Olympus) I would stop making DSLR-styled cameras and focus on street photography, photojournalism, and the reportage space. Make digital rangefinder-style cameras that capitalise off the plethora of MFT lenses already in the market and go after Leica and Fujifilm users. There's something to be said about having a light kit on the streets. The GH6 is a BIG camera, especially once you add the hand-grip and other accessories. It goes against the original philosophy of MFT in the first place, which was to make lightweight cameras and lenses that can still produce quality imagines and video. The GH6 is a departure from that philosophy. So, imagine updates to the LUMXI GX9 and the Olympus Pen F. They would kill it people who carry cameras gear for hours on end. As for the film-making community, there are better options out there in the full-frame space and the LUMIX S5 is one of them.

Not really if you look at Fuji XT-4, it gives you 10 bit and all the video specs you could want, but it aint a cinema camera, GH6 is more cinema oriented, quite frankly I doubt 99% of people here shoot movies, so XT-4 or even just a GH5 II would make more sense, cheaper cameras, all the video features you could want, photography, great lenses, and the XT-4 has pretty decent F2.8 zoom for half the price of the F1.7 zoom you can get for Panny cameras.

It's by no means a bad camera, because the GH5 is still a great camera. It just adds some more bell's and whistles to an already great camera. But I share the same sentiment, at this point there's so many great affordable full frame cameras with smaller and lighter bodies than the GH6 even. I think it's fine that Panasonic released one more GH camera but I wouldn't grab one until it's $1500 used in 3-4 years. For now I'm more than happy with the Lumix S5 and the Sony A7iv. You'd be happy with any camera you'd buy from the last couple years. If you can't get a cinema looking image from a modern mirrorless camera then you're the problem. It's not the sensor. Stuff like ProRes etc... it's fine but if I'm shooting ProRes I'm on a shoot the fully requires that workflow which means I'm rigging that camera up... so at that point I'd rather just throw a Blackmagic 12G SDI on the S5 and shoot BRAW in FF 5.7K. If you're heavily invested in MFT... sure the GH6 will probably tick your boxes but I think a lot of those users already moved on to other systems or Panasonic's S line.

Interesting YC. I personally think it is an old school and new school type of thing. Not all content creators are on You Tube and Social media. I have been working in Swedish Broadcast for just over thirty years and started my career as a stills photographer in 1983. So even though I have worked week in week out with large expensive and specialised broadcast and cinema cameras, I love shedding the load of weight and expense for my own personal gear yet I want to film in the way that has become part of my DNA. So smaller hybrid cameras for personal work with great video tools have been my priority way before mirrorless was even a thing. Many of my colleagues are way more conservative than me and cannot understand why I bother with cameras like the GH5/6 and my new Nikon Z9 system because for them a video camera is nothing below a cinema camera because in our industry we need gear that meets certain industry standards that helps us get work or we know how to use if hired as part of a crew or is readily available at rental houses around the world. The modern day content creator on the other hand is usually the producer of his/her production, so they have a completely different freedom possibility when it comes to equipment choices and workflows that suit themselves. So yes, if some have not learned the true skill of manual focussing or don’t need to use a specific codec and specialised video tools I would absolutely agree that the R6 would be easier to use but the old school would definitely consider the GH6 as a camera closer to what they prefer to shoot with. If FLOP means the GH6 not enough to attract the new school crowd, I think you are correct but even as a Z9 owner, I immediately preordered the GH6 because it will be a hit with me and many other old schoolers like myself! 🙏🏾

One thing I disagree with is that statement that "cameras are getting cheaper and cheaper for what you get". No way. I started photography in 2005 and cameras at the mid/high end have become WAY more expensive over the past 5 years especially (and the lenses too, especially for Canon). I paid about $4000 cdn for a brand new, state of the art 1D MkIII when it was released. Now, I can't even get a 5D equivalent (R5) for that price (costs $5500 cdn). A 1 series body or equivalent is now around $8000 cdn. And no, you when it comes to electronics, you can't compare new features a decade later to something from the past. If that was the case, a high end computer from 2000 would still cost $2000 and a high end computer today would cost $30,000. You have to compare the range of the model in a lineup (with SLIGHT inflation). A 1 series camera 10-15 years ago is still a 1 series camera today. A mid range camera (5D, 6D) is still a mid range camera today (R5, R6). Prices have increased way beyond inflation, and lens prices have almost doubled in the past 10 years.

The GH6 would have been a hit in 2018-19 but today its a step backwards for most people. I used to shoot with the GH2, GH3, GH4, and GH5 and finally switched because I wanted a real autofocus system and I wanted a higher resolution stills camera. I sold off a most of my M43 gear but I have been hanging on to my GH5 and three lenses hoping that the GH6 would have 8K video and phase detect autofocus and when Panasonic came out and said that they were not going with phase detect and only giving the camera 5.7K I went ahead and bought an R5. I don't understand why they couldn't give us 8K? The camera has a fan on it so its not like they needed to worry about overheating. Panasonic is like that girlfriend that helped you become a better man but doesn't want to be better herself so you eventually have to move on. Panasonic if you are reading this scrap the road map and go off course. Give us a GH7 next year with 8K, phase detect autofocus and a 33mp or higher sensor and give us a new variable mount that will accept either M43, APS-C and full-frame lenses.

I shoot Canon for stills and the GH5 for video. This is the first time I've seen this comparison on ease of use. With the GH5, once you set the shutter angle to 180 degrees, the only settings you will have to change are your aperture, color profile, and recording format. You don't have to go into any menus for this. With Canon and Sony, you have to change your shutter speed each time you change frame-rate (4K 60p to 1/120 Shutter Speed), (4K30p to 1/60 Shutter Speed), (120P to 1/240 Shutter Speed). I would argue that having shutter angle alone in the GH6 can save operators way more time than Sony and Canon Mirrorless bodies.

First, let me thank you for making a compelling argument and some great points i have not heard in other GH6 videos. I’m looking at GH6 for several reasons. 1) MFT is format i’ve settled on 2) Price and size of lenses available 3) weather sealing 4) features - i’ve owned several Full frame Canon cameras and Canon broke my heart too severely to ever go back…Canon puts in just enough new features to make a camera interesting, but they don’t ever wow you like Panasonic.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. If you want ease of use, just set some parameters and let the camera do all the work. And if you want shallow depth of field, there's no need to switch to full frame. The PanaLeica 10-25mm f1.7 that I own is a great lens for shooting wide open, and so is the 25-50mm f1.7, which I hope to buy anytime soon. Besides that, a MAJOR advantage over full frame is the relative compactness of the Micro Four Thirds (MFT) system. My three camera bodies and a total of six lenses and my laptop fit in a backpack that weighs 18 pounds and meets cabin luggage requirements. So I can take my gear anywhere I want, without paying hefty fees or being worried about the careless luggage handlers. All in all, I have no worries that the GH6 will be a flop. On the contrary!

We're two different people with different needs, but I really disagree (I should note that I don't have a GH6, but I do have an R6 and a GH5). As far as ease of use, it's wayyy easier for me to use my Lumix. I can map custom video presets to the wheel. I can switch between 4k 24, 4k 60, 1080p 120, or whatever setting I want with one click. No menus whatsoever. -Not a feature on the R6 Unlimited record time. -Not a feature on the R6 Internal ProRes. -Not a Feature on the R6 5.7k. -Not a feature on the R6 Internal cooling and no overheating anxieties. -Not a feature on the R6. The R6 isn’t a complete professional video camera out of the box, I wouldn't have ever even consider owning an R6 without a Ninja V, witch costs another grand with the necessary accessories. I can hold a GH6 in my hands and have all of those features I listed. There is certainly a place for such a compact beast in the market, and I doubt it will flop.

Yeah at this point with the forced crops and the record limits and the overheating and reliability and cheapness of every other camera company out there outside of their like 3000-4000+ flagships I just cant trust them. Sure the GH series AF is unreliable but every other company in every other metric is LESS reliable when it comes to the things I mentioned, and for way more money. These new canons are some fisher price toys compared to the S1h or even the budget S5 and even the high quality L series glass for RF is small light and plasticy.

These are Opinions, it's all depends on what you do, and how you do it, there are Myriad of reason why FF is better than Micro 4/3 and there are innumerable reasons why you need a Micro 4/3 over FF. It's all boils down to what area of the photography are you into, and the biggest elephant in the room "What's your budget". Now look at what Canon is doing killing all third party makers of RF-Lenses, you are stuck to only buying from them, for some you have to sell your kidney to buy an RF lenses for a Camera you already own. that can also be a Factor to consider, but at the end it all depends on you the user.

The menus are so difficult to access and I cannot agree with your claim that it is a simple camera to use. No way! Take a look at Panasonic everything is designed with the photographer and videographer in mind. And both cameras fails with autofocus just in different ways. I rarely use the R6 because of these reasons and then we haven’t even spoken about weight.

i think you make valid points but you got your cameras switched. You can’t just pick up a canon or a sony and “just film” becuase they need a gimbal - they need an external recorder to get prores and they need expensive, heavy glass to cover that full frame. if you want simplicity, turn the dial to Program mode. It’s not complicated. I thibk you dont get excited anymore because, unlike before, you have access to whatever camera you want, so tgis budget thing doesnt float your boat. the biggest win of the GH6 over the others is it’s 5.8K open gate mode with 4:3 aspect. It’s perfect for shooting hybrid aspect ratios for using the same footage in both 16:9 and square targets. And you can record all that data to an sd card because HEVC. That is a motherfucking GAME CHANGER. If that doesn’t excite you, then why are you even doing this?

I feel like Panasonic jumped the shark a bit and pumped out tons of features that are useful, but not the primary concern of most of their customer base. Hopefully photographers will be more lucky when the G9 replacement comes out, otherwise everyone is going to jump ship. OM-1 looks like a good choice for micro 4/3 users. Too bad none of my Panasonic glass works as well as Olympic glass even though the mounts are shared. So if I wanted to switch I still have to sell all my lenses in a quickly depreciating market. It's not that the GH6 is bad, it's just incredibly niche. I would like a camera that can shoot 4K60 10-bit with a decent bitrate, good tracking autofocus, and more computational photography features and better phone integration. Also true raw would be great for people who do deep space astrophotography.

I'd say from the start of the DSLR revolution in 2007/2008 up until 2017, there was a big disparity between video features on various cameras. This was a time when consumers would get excited to see 'shot on' videos demonstrating what a camera can do, and would make a lot of shootout comparisons; some would even upgrade yearly. But since the release of the GH5 in 2017, the market has been flooded with good options for video, and now pretty much every camera can get nearly indistinguishable results and has very similar features: Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, Fujifilm, OM System, Blackmagic Design, and Z-Cam all offer great, professional quality video with 10-bit log and high frame rates; many of them also now offer raw video out of the box. I recently shot a TVC on the Canon C70, and with an ACES workflow, I could cut between footage shot on a GH5, and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. So this puts the GH6 in a tough position. As a GH5 owner, this fixes every problem I have with the camera and even adds features, but at the same time, I don't need to stick to micro four thirds any more with all these great options, so do I really need to upgrade to one? I could easily go to something else to improve my work flow and back-end capabilities, and no one would be the wiser for the type of content I shoot 🤔

As a Panasonic shooter I do think this camera is amazing. I think it should probably have come out at the same time as a refreshed S1H so that all their bases were covered. I have always believed Panasonic's DFD system works in principal and that the system though better than phase detect would not work as well because of processing constraints in their cameras. As processing power gets better, so will DFD. In the mean time, it is hard to justify going with Panasonic for ease of use, though I will always be grateful to my DVX200 for teaching me how to shoot. The ultimate love/hate camera. For ease of use, I am still rockin the G85 and other than autofocus problems, for me, it is still the best 'easy' camera to learn and use. Anyway, you are amazing, I have learned alot from you, kinda wish you could do this forever. Are you going to review the Aputure LS 1200d Pro?

If the GH6 had a real reliable autofocus I would have purchased it in a heartbeat even though it's M43. That's how many good things Panasonic implemented into this thing. But everyone I work for wants super complex gimbal shots even when I'm just a one man crew. Autofocus is the only way to pull this off without having to waste everyone's time doing multiple takes so I can nail the movement and focus. I've had a Panasonic camera since the DVX100b and I've loved all of them, but this is the first time where I feel I'll have to invest in another company soon unless they start taking autofocus more seriously.

If the GH6 had at least an APS-C or Super 35 sensor, I think more people would be excited, but at the price, you can get an R6. The R6 does overheat when shooting 4K, and there aren't any waveforms - which is where the GH6 would top it with the fan and waveforms. But as a professional online "content" making camera, it flops since there isn't super reliable auto-focus. Cinematography enthusiasts will be more attracted, but will probably splurge a little more and go for something like the Sony FX3 which is only $1000 more.

Nice video! My opinion on the GH6 is that it occupies a space of its own and that's what makes it hard to compare to other cameras. I see it as an entry point into pro cinema cameras, targeting filmmakers who are on a budget and want to get the most out of their money. If you want those resolutions, frame rates & all those other features in a full frame format, you're going to have to spend at least double if not more on a camera (as far as I know). You chose to compare it with an R6 (probably because of the similar price). That won't get you 4k 120p and neither 5.7k 60p. I've seen others comparing it with an A7S III. That one is almost double the price of the GH6 and it still won't get you 5.7k. There's also the appeal of being able to mount pretty much any lens on it. Some of the Canon and Sony lenses cost an arm and a leg. Whereas with the GH6 you can buy some vintage glass no one has ever heard of and go full experimental with it. At the end of the day it's apples and oranges, but I don't think the GH6 is going to flop
@gablebrandon
@gablebrandon 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly, it keeps getting compared to cameras that cost double the price or more. So to me, that makes the GH6 a great bang for your buck. It's like at least $2000 less than any other camera it'd be "competing" with. Image quality wise, it's better quality than the GH5 and the GH5 if used correctly has incredible image quality already. So yeah, idk why people are so disappointed. "ease of use" is also subjective, the menu system alone on a Panasonic camera is easier to use than any Sony menu. It all comes down to people wanting cameras to do everything for them, that's the real problem. Anyways, agree with everything you said.

I currently have a Sony a6600 as my main cam right now for weddings, due to the unlimited record option and battery life. None of the canon larger sensor cameras in a sub $2000 region have that option. I thought this Panasonic gh6 was going to be revolutionary, but it's just more of the same. It's a picture camera filled with video codecs and features, but no nd filters and no xlr audio included. Every manufacturer keeps adding higher resolution and bigger data rates, but I use none of that when shooting weddings for 8+ hours. I would prefer a camcorder, but they all suck. GH5 still the King and GH6 opens more doors for creativity if you film in MANUALLY. I totally disagree with you! I would never hire videographers that uses auto-focus in mind. Period! There is a HUGE difference in quality vs. quantity. Auto-focus feel like a robot is controlling the camera and the feel of the moving images looks ordinary. With manually controlling the camera the variables are endless and the quality and feel of end product is night and day. The creative part is totally GONE with auto-focus. Same thing is driving a auto-card vs. manual, you can see and feel the difference. It is like an AI creating edit choices and creating images from nothing, there is no feeling there. You are using a code that was embedded into the camera by a select people and you will be using their taste every time. It is like getting married to one single woman. Later on you know the taste and feeling no matter is day or night. hahahah! B-Creative and B-Original! You your GH6 to the max!

Gonna be real, Panasonic dropped the ball HARD not implementing phase detect autofocus, they could have made the best KZbin camera. I love the video features but that alone isn’t enough. I shot all my pro work on a GH5 for 3 years and used the the same camera to vlog with manual focus. Full frame is where the sweet spot is and the GH5 isn’t it. Going with an a7iv so I have the choice of auto or manual focus. The price difference isn’t that much as well.

Lots of corporate gigs are all about keeping as much in focus as possible, which is easier on the GH6s small sensor. You can of course get some shallow depth of field and s35 look with a speedbooster. I get what you’re saying about ease of use and I’d add that, everyone should buy the camera that meets their production needs. FWIW, I’d choose the GH6 over say, a Lumix S5 because of its advanced features, even though I own an S1 and S1H. Great channel, BTW

The only thing the R6 has on the Gh6 is autofocus and low light. On a hot day that R6 will "OVER HEAT LIKE A MO-FO" I have never had a Panasonic camera do that like Sony or Canon for video.

Honestly, I don’t think I’ll ever understand the obsession with sensor size. Some of the best cinematic videos I’ve ever seen have been from tiny M4/3 sensors, and at no point would I ever think “wow if this was on a bigger sensor it would look so much better.” The GH6 is insane in my opinion. $2200 for options like this, in a tiny little setup you can run and gun with??? You kidding me? I’ve figured out cameras much harder than this, and if you’re spending thousands, you should have zero qualms with spending some time learning how to use your tools. This camera has me exceptionally excited.

Really all the gh5 users wanted was better autofocus..... i dont think i’ve ever heard a single gh5 user complain about anything else. And yet panasonic kept the crappy contrast based DoD focusing.....

I think if you're a GH5 filmmaker like me who doesn't have a spare £10k to switch to Sony or Canon, the GH6 is the next logical step in making improvements in areas like autofocus. Maybe I'll switch in 2 or 3 years, but maybe I won't. I'm really excited about what the GH6 can offer me for £2k.

Love the specs of the GH6 but I think something that will hurt it is the S5 which is cheaper and Full frame. Yes it's missing some of the features of the GH6 and ability to record Pro Res internal but having a full frame option that's cheaper and has more dynamic range and better image will hurt it.

I just purchased my GH6. I have two GH5s and one GH5 ii. I’m not a Panasonic fan boy but I have a collection of MFT lenses and because I shoot multicam it is much easier to match these cameras which means less work in post. I am Canadian and I was able to get my GH6 for $900 off the retail price. I shot my first gig with the GH6 a couple of nights ago and it did not disappoint.

Lumix is punching the air right now now 😂 I felt the same way though.... nothing really new in the camera that got me hyped. I remember the GH5 coming out and they were the only ones with 4k 60 for the longest time.

I agree and pre-ordered two. Why? A booster makes my sigmas parfocal, 4 channel audio, solid video options and stupid resolution for product photography. Tickety tick tick tick. You're right though, most people don't want all those options. Come to that, most people don't want full frame either. Most people want a smart phone

I like the colors straight out of GH6... Better IBIS and light weight setup are something I care about as an advanced enthusiast. I currently own an R5.

yah...they dropped the ball.Big time.At least for the people that already had canon glass through speedboosters....and generally people that already paid they dues with manual focusing/riggin/etc.. Love my gh5 and thought id never sell ..,but that r6/a7s3/fx3 are too good when u wanna run and gun....+full frame Like think about it.Its supposed to be the other way around in terms of value to image ratio.The smaller sensor with the worst image and supposed to give u convenience with hella good autofocus of the processing of the smaller sensor and the more u move up in size the harder itd be...but its not which makes the decision of a switch sooo much easier..yupp BIG FLOP

My honest opinion. It depends what type of person you are. I mean I love specs I don't care about autofocus. In the end it'll make me a better filmmaker. I will obtain better skill than the average person who constantly uses autofocus. It will help me think better as a creator. I mean I'm using a Nikon D3200 at the moment and that camera sucks. But I never gave up and it made me better today. My knowledge grew. So it's completely dependent on the type of person you are and if you willing to go the extra mile.

I guess because because I’ve use Panasonic cameras and mastered manual focus, the auto focus is not a factor. You said it correctly. These 2 cameras are for different people. If you want to turn on the camera and shoot on auto and get what you get, the GH6 is not for you.
