For me, the value of romance novels is captured by my favorite Emily Henry quote “no matter how much shit, there will always be wildflowers.” Hard times and good times coexist, and one doesn’t take up space for the other. And that hope is powerful

Romance books calm my soul. Unless it's a miscommunication trope I am in zen mode. Emily Henry is slowly becoming a favorite of mine too.

another thought: some male authors LOVE to write romance and say that in interviews but will only write it in a fantasy or sci-fi context because the story itself will be more "manly" or sell more to a male audience, honestly breaks my heart because i'm sure they could write wonderful romance books and would open the genre to their male audience thanks to their trust in their writing (if that makes sense)

I am not a romance girly, mainly due to being realistic and not excited to read about women who “begging to be chosen” but I’d give a romance a chance here or there if it involves horror or someone getting sliced or diced 🥸!
