I literally ran a business for five years, everything you said is true. You learn as you go and a degree will not help you much if anything at all.
@Freshd19952 жыл бұрын
Interesting to hear. I would think there is somewhat of a fundation that is very helpful/kinda necessary to have. E.g. for starting a buisness it would be great to have a general concept of what you want to do, how its going to make money in its marked and also knowing how to generally handle logistics, administration and how manage people. Not necessarily to the point where a full degree would take you, but just so you have a general framework. Is that not the case or was this always implied and i didn´t see it? If its not the case I would be really interrested in the why.

I had a breakthrough using Daniel Zingaro’s book “Learn to code by solving problems”. Finding the right problems to solve for your level is critical. Main thing I learned is “don’t beat yourself up because of what you don’t know yet”. If you looked back, you’d see that you used a specific way to solve something to begin with, but now you’d use something more optimal. Initially you’d see a problem and think “what the hell is this”, then “I get it but I can’t figure out how to solve it”, then “I can solve it using strings/lists/dictionaries”, then eventually “ahh, the manhattan taxicab algorithm again”.

I've transformed my approach to learning. Despite past setbacks, I'm now thriving on Mimo. Its tailored leaderboards and streak counter tap into my competitive side, propelling me to learn for hours daily. I've realized that turning learning into a game shifts my mindset from doubt to determination. To all self-taught programmers, your journey matters, and embracing the right learning style is key. Kudos to those pushing boundaries and making their mark. Keep soaring! Namaste 🙏💙

I really like the “learn as you go” advice. If you have a project in mind, plan it out and start it! It’ll most likely be difficult and you may get stuck, but the important thing is you’ll learn as you go and that experience is valuable. Being a programmer means that you have to be willing to learn everyday even when you already have a job because even then, the learning never stops. So you might as well get into the habit.

I attended a 1-year web development program, I learned JS, HTML, CSS, reactJS, Python, and Django, and have previous experience with SQL, and Java. Even so, I feel so inadequate and incompetent that I have not even felt up to trying to find a paying job. Others have told me I have impostor syndrome, but it goes much deeper than that. Do you have any advice for this situation?
@ahmadabdalla77422 жыл бұрын
I might not be the one who you are asking, but you can look at this like (what's the worst that could happen?) I guess you won't lose anything If you try to apply for some jobs
@kingk78842 жыл бұрын
Just apply for jobs, i was in the same situation and got out of it by not being afraid of rejection, everything is a learning experience, even in rejections
@GrifoStelle2 жыл бұрын
Hmm my advice seems to have been removed. It's okay it was a wall of text anyway. The short of it was to offer something you know how to do well in a quick-gig site (no suggestions this time, I think that's why my comment was removed). Offer it at a new-to-site temporary under-value rate so you can get some very easy wins for yourself. It's a good way to prove to yourself through client reviews that you are where you should be. Raise your rate and range of services over time so you can reach market value. Then let yourself succeed and apply for jobs instead of offering gigs.

Same happens to me...I never felt like i am complete... i try to learn more I also have 6-7 years of experience as web developer...yet I am struggling in interviews😢😢😢
@MRi-iq5wf9 ай бұрын
I was thinking of compiling the best github I can and perhaps an Adruino project to show at any interview. I don't have much experience but then I realized for years I've worked on map editor's, mods for games where you'd have to compile scripts and audio files, editing .JSON files sometimes. When I started learning code it wasn't the exact same thing but did include some similar concepts that didn't sound like gibberish.

Do you have a video on how building a portfolio as a self taught coder. Like you need example but where do you start what project should you put in there. How do you find projects? Do you just make fake situation with a program that would solve a need. I’m very stumped here :(

Ive taught myself to program, but ultimately decided to go in a different direction with my career which does involve college, not that I couldn’t teach myself and talk my way in but that’s not the point. Knowing how to code has basically got me my placement at college. I would say that if i were, for example, looking for web design, self education is very attractive

What did you do in this year? Have you made a project?
@bulaloitech Жыл бұрын
I started learning python at 14 but quit, then started again but in java but still quit again, because I didn't code, I thought I could learn/master just by reading/watching books & tutorials(Its what they call "tutorial hell"). Then at 16 I tried to code Python again and got about intermediate at it then switched to js. If there is one thing I learned why I quited 2x its to learn by practice, my strategy is learn the concept of 1 or 2 keywords first then make a program out of it and save the codebase in some notepad app(so I could comeback if I forget it), then call it day.

So far I'm about a week in with learning to code and I got stuck it's depressing but it's important to remain positive and patient. Was feeling bad these 2-3 days but while I was watering the veggies I hit myself with a motivational speech and I feel better(I never do motivational speeches but randomly started talking to myself) it just takes Patience. If I'm stuck solving something hard I should go back and make a game for fun. Learn to psuedocode send it to a friend or a coding discord and ask if the psuedocode is right if they go "yhea that's pretty much it" then that means im 60% close to my goal the remaining 40% is translating it to code (remove the words that don't work keep all the psuedocode if's and try making it sound like your teaching a caveman English)

First of all thank you for your video's, My biggest problem is my self esteem is low, i don't have alot of contacts or loads of support (only my wife). I started last year on a study given by the state, they said ok we have a package for you you will learn Azure Fundamentals, (old) SQL, C# & WPF, but you will only do an exam on Azure Fundamentals....I got my certificate and i thought what now...I really enjoyed C# .NET5 so i focused on that.. Finally i bought the newest book for .NET6 and studied further, but i got a little bit stuck, cause there is no one telling me what to do or what to create....So i applied for a new study for C# visual....It will start 10 October and will only take around 3 months. I already forgot loads of things i learned of Azure, cause i don't use it and to use it you have to pay for it....And without a job you need to keep the money to pay the rent... I just recently started to make a website for my portfolio and will buy a website at the end of the year when i'm really going to search for a job... I just wanna do something i feel good about and coding is fun for me...but it's hard, cause many people look at your history of jobs and school and my resume doesn't look good...But i'm trying to make the best out of it and hope to find my place in this world what makes me happy, cause i find myself useless at this point.
