This old tradition of going to an inn, tavern or pub to 'talk shop' or discuss cabbages and kings goes back centuries. It's much better than chat forums or podcasts because you get that human feel of the crowd. Who can I talk to about this? Who feels trustworthy? On the internet you are communicating with a dead screen. If the pub is destroyed then people will become even more atomised in their own society.

What makes it so obviously not about health is the arbitrary way it is enforced, for example you're not allowed to smoke out side of a pub but if you walk down the street away from the pub you are allowed to smoke. How can this be anything other than a blatant attack on pubs, which are used as a meeting place for the white working class?

Ban smoking in pub gardens and youll lose the pubs, the jobs that generates, the taxes from smoking and an increase on early deaths from stress that would normally be treated by a drink and cigarette in a pub garden, probably. Although, this early death would save money from not having to pay so much in pensions 🤔

All that Mr. Dutton said is true but I believe there is another angle to the story. If you look at pictures of Starmer, even those where he is aware has been photographed, he looks remote, cold and dull as you can imagine. In short, he is a modern-day Puritan. Do you remember that hateful tyrant named Oliver Cromwell? Well, he was a killjoy like Starmer. He banned theatre, dancing, gambling, etc. Bitter and resentful people like Starmer and Cromwell hate the sight of people enjoying themselves.
