Jump to 2:40:35 to see the Mimicry Marcus arm slash hitbox when you're running from it. It's MASSIVE & requires very good turning to deal with on manual controls. With the tank controls, it's *very* hard to avoid efficiently. This is a representation of what's wrong with RE 0 & I genuinely like it. The game punishes casual players for doing optimal strategies within previous resident evil entries. Your casual player will likely use Molotovs first, then figure out it's too laggy to use, so it gets free hits on you (after it switches from the passive mode to the aggressive mode). It takes FAR too much ammo to kill without fire & explodes dealing high damage to any character caught. On paper, the enemy looks fine because the devs assumed casuals would take BOTH characters with them into rooms, but the AI is too stupid to work with the player for a legit strategy to kill it effectively (& having a grenade launcher with molotovs takes up lots of inventory). So why give it an attack that punishes a perfectly optimal avoidance strategy? Hell, not sure if anybody knows, but that move combos into its grab for extra damage. Those centipede clowns can stunlock you as much as they want with their swipe attack. Those eliminators can jump you & stunlock you. The game is downright silent about many nuanced situations where casuals *NEED* that additional context. Now for the things I like about the game. Amazing graphics. A varied, oppressively hopeful soundtrack. The rare giant frog that can swallow a character whole. Enemy detail is top notch. Some of the best puzzles for classic resident evil & there's lots of variance to keep things interesting. Leech Hunter mode is fun. Good lore behind the Arklay Mountains becoming infected & tying the whole classic resident evil games together (although rebecca's characterization was ignored). Queen Leech actually managed to complete its goal of getting revenge against umbrella (being one of the few villains in the series to complete its goal). The item management becomes a cool skill to optimize as you improve at the game. The game is a volatile mess, but a likeable one imo. It's like the RE of classic RE in terms of player perception. Either people like it, or they hate it. I can understand both, but I like it quite a bit. The game just as some brutal difficulty balance that can bork casuals.

Resident Evil never really has much character consistency unfortunately. In general it's always felt more like a lore-first, character-second series. The characters are molded each time to fit the tone or story of any particular game. It's really all about the mystery. I think the remake of Resident Evil was so feverishly devoted to keeping to the original's script that Rebecca's personality in that was just a result of keeping the REmake's manta of "everything consistent with the original but better" without regards to continuity in mind. It's ironic because the only characters that have any sense of consistency usually only stay that way because they don't have as many appearances as others - characters like Claire (though even she doesn't quite escape this in Rev 2), Ada, Barry - who are used a bit more sparsely but always consistent in their ways. So Rebecca should've fit in this but instead was an interesting exception. In the end, she was the protagonist of Zero and so needed to be badass and in REmake she's a supporting protagonist so she became more timid and inexperienced. And who knows what kind of personality she has in Vendetta!
@ff789n10 Жыл бұрын
This is what I've always said. The consistency has always been terrible. Very little about the characters remains the same. Voice actors, models, even personality all change. Between the remakes, RE 2, RE 4, and RE 6, Leon is 4 different dudes. And Chris? Oh dear lord, forget about it. He might be the worst example of this. They share the same names and history, that's about where it ends.

@RandalfElVikingo Жыл бұрын
@@ff789n10 The only positive thing is that even if the characters are so different, they are memorable and well constructed, even if they barely reference anything from previous games. Jill is the best example: she is this stoic individual in most of her adaptations and you believe her, but she also has a fun side and a deep moral compass and can show weakness. Some people do not feel sure how to react to her RE3 remake appearance, but it makes a lot of sense because she is not on the job, she is forced to escape and watch the people around her die; of course she is going to be more emotional than in other games and she is barely in control of what is happening. And it sucks that the Remake is a disappoinment because the characters were the best part of that game, especially Jill and Nikolai and their dynamic because Nikolai self-preservation vs Jill morality are always butting heads and that type of dynamic was barely explored in any RE game until Remake3.

Another issue with the keycard you need when operating the train breaks is that it doesn't help that when you choose the character to send to the back of the train, in the cutscene they turn and start heading towards the door as though to leave, so it gives you the implication that you don't need anything from the room, otherwise why would they be leaving? Personally, I didn't have an issue because I'm very meticulous (if that's the right word) when it comes to checking for items, but I can see why it would be an issue for people. Honestly, I would have left the keycard out altogether and just had it be the little number puzzle by itself. The keycard just seems like an unnecessary extra thing that comes across as only being there for the sole reason of screwing over people for not picking it up.

The multiple rants about the hookshot were hilarious and very true. But to be fair to the developers and a very small defense of this terrible dropping items idea, very early on they were trying to tell players that it's ok to drop items and you should be doing it, the first indication that your items are safe is after the train crash where they're all collected near the burning wreck. Considering even disposables such as ammo and herbs are there, it should have been obvious to players at that point that an important item like hookshot would always be safe. But I guess that didn't occur to people as much as it should have. (Certainly if they didn't have any damn items or failed to notice them on the ground are factors that also played into this, I'm sure)
@mehdidelteil36724 ай бұрын
Items after the train AREN'T SAFE AT ALL. There are at least 4 fu****g zombie in the crash train room, that you can't / don't want to kill in hard mode. Without prior knowledge or without insane evasion skills, you are just screwed when you want to pick it up later. And even without those zombies, this is SOOOOO TIDIOUS, they could at the very least implement 3 safe-deposit box for your items, one in the train's safe room one in the training center hall, the other in the last safe room. 3:25:55 Look at those insane backtracking just ti grab ammo to defeat the final boss, that's precisely how my first hard mode playthrough went, in a way worst fashion. Usually what happens is people leave it somewhere stupid, then realize they need it later. then they will have to backtrack through repopulated dangerous rooms to go get it. its purposefully inconvenient so you leave it somewhere early on. not saying its not annoying or doesn't hurt peoples perception of the game, but it was a clear choice by the developer to trap new players into having to go back through old hallways with new replenished enemies to get it if you leave it somewhere dumb like the train crash site. I think ustanak is cool design but not well written or implemented by which I mean for example ustanak and re3 remake nemsis feels like just a major enemies to serve as a plot twists or transactions or just for being there but if you take a look at nemesis from Re3 original he is a complete character even though all he says is stars and WAAAA!,basically its like a relationship also building him up through out the game until he appears also played a major role,lets look at another point how this relationship between the player and nemesis like for example when first time downing him and he gets up he start roaring as if he a little kid and things didn’t go his way indicating the player that nemmy is not happy and the next thing nemmy does is dash straight to the player while the player still thinking about nemmy being mad,not having the chance to think about the next move making the player a bit panicky in there decision making (blind play through ofc)upon defeating or retreating its is the changing point of this relationship as if the nemesis to the first encounter between the player gets very personal and into some point in the game it start to feel rivalry like and it gets personal to the point where even if you were at disadvantage against another bow in his presence he will straight up eliminating it if it gets in the way its indicating the nemmy wants the kill for him self other honorable stuff like taunting the player and toying with the player or zoning him out with rockets or even unintentionally cutting the players of to body block their path to get in a hit,also his walking animation feels like he is dead focused on the player like a lion approaching his prey slowly,a mod creator who create the lord of necropolis improved the idea of nemmy to new heights while maintaining or even improving his characteristics and relationships between nemmy and the player while making nemmy a real threat that make even veterans think 2 twice about facing nemny in combat or if its worth the risk and effort props to the mod creator who understood the concept of nemy perfectly,basically nemesis in re3 Og is A character and his dialogue spoken through actions and mixed bag of emotions through out the journey there is alot more to it but i have the feeling i have been writting this forever 😅 Ps:OG nemesis voice actor was the best one in my opinion it did give him more personality,my his soul RIP

I only played it once, back in ye olden days of the GameCube. I remember really liking how it looked, some frustration at the swapping or getting lost (can't remember) and not finishing it. I'd completed RE1 and2 thoroughly. 3 at least once. This and Code Veronica were the only 2 I had to give up on.

I played RE0 on hard for my first playthrough and, even though I sent the correct characters up with the hookshot, I still had to backtrack to get it in the hall after the bat fight. And since I had no heals nor ammo after killing the new fucking monkey spawns in the mansion, I softlocked in the area right after the fight and had to load my previous save wasting less resources.

I recently replayed this game and absolutely loved it. Ngl i can't really find myself agreeing with some of the points though. 1. When it came to the brief mention about the time of playthroughs with door animation time, i find re1 to be MUCH more painful in that. 2. Inventory management. I remember even as a kid back then the system for dropping things was easy to understand and even when i did have to drop something it never led to me back tracking too much. Managing items by hoarding them in rooms didn't feel like an issue either because when doing that you actively spend time collecting items you probably will never use. The number ammo stacks up to is so damn high that it always felt practically pointless to hoard things in a room especially when you weren't even going to use half the weapons (that goes for my first playthrough when i was younger too) 3. The hookshot and the 50/50 on sending billy up. I clearly remember feeling like the game wanted me to ONLY use it on Rebecca because it made a clear point to tell you that if too much weight was used it could break. I don't even think i knew billy could use it in my first playthrough because i avoided trying it for that reason.

3. That note found at the back of the train is telling us that both Rebecca & Billy couldn't managed to climb together, this is what i've understand with that 80kg max weight 😊

Ok I have a question. When Becca made the crucial decision to not go with Enrico, did she actually save Billy? Or would Billy have been ok without her help? A breakdown below: 2:47:36 Becca and enrico meet and she refused to go with him because she has to find Billy She Fights the tyrant 2:51:37 sees Billy get washed away She turns the power back on to the treatment plant 2:55:00 Becca finds Billy -ok so importantly here Billy was already out of the water. My question is do you think her choice to go after Billy saved him or would he have been fine without her? The power was shut down to the treatment plant so maybe he would have been stuck where he was when he woke up?

4:48 understandable 5:43 i figured out how they messed up the controls this badly. They ported the gamecube controls literally by the letter. Eg: on gamecube b button is run/cancel so they made the b button be run/cancel on the Xbox controller too. The only problem is the b button is on the total opposite side of the controller on Xbox, which turns the controls into a giant mess.

I just finished my first playthrough, I had no idea you could send Billy up with the hookshot since I swear the game prevented him from using it on the train since he was too heavy or something. So I assumed that he just couldn't use it ever and that it was a Rebecca item, I guess I was wrong.
@johnbriggs89532 жыл бұрын
The manual for the hookshot states that someone that is too heavy that tries to use the hookshot could damage it. I think it was a subtle hint to the player that Rebecca needs to use it, not Billy, and punishes you in the lab/tram station if you do.

Leech enemies are annoying but the game hands you molotovs for them at their most annoying parts (cable car area, and then the balcony in the factory). Really good game, but definitely a game for Resident Evil veterans.

Just did my first playthrough of RE0 because I wanted to play them all in order knowing nothing about the game besides it's Rebecca and some dude I never heard of on a train. You're only on a train for a little bit haha. I used tank controls because I wanted that authentic feel people had back in the day and I can tell you that this is my least favorite Resident evil game and it was a slugfest to get through. I played the game on Hard because that's what I always do in games, this was a bad decision being my first time playing a res game like this. I carried the hookshot the whole game like he said in the video probably up until the last map. I also left the hookshot in first room and had to fight through the awful monkeys to get it. I sent Billy up because I always used him to scout ahead because he has more health and I upgraded his gun. Horrible bat boss fight. I ran into the frog after the 2nd Tyrant fight, turned around because I wanted to save and got cross the map grabbed and one hit. I also think the story is awful because Rebecca remembers nothing about this game when it takes place before the first game and she fought a tyrant and leach queen but gets cornered by a Hunter in the first game haha. Also hated a lot of the camera angels because I could never see what I was shooting at and would take a hit because I didn't know if they were down or not. Doing my first playthrough of the Remake and can say it is way more enjoyable. I am playing through on Normal and the Item boxes and only worrying about one Character is so much better.
@bmshaven Жыл бұрын
I tell you what, the tank controls get a lot of flack, but honestly works best for these types of games. I could not get used to the normal controls in the X-files RE clone, even hours into it lol. Tank controls for retro RE and retro Tomb Raider fit perfectly fine.

3:25:55 The most bullshit part of RE 0 is the fact that you can't, or at a very high price in term of time, sack up all your inventary that you will definitly need for the end game in hard mode. I mean I've finish the hard mode without pre knowledge with like 2 handgun's bullets , the knife and no health. I thought I softlocked myself, despise having been SUPER cautious the all game, and it forces me to do SOOOOOO many pointless backtracking just to move all my items from the training center to the last save room ... For a first playthrough, even if you've finished every other old school RE, please DO NOT select hard mode, or your experience will tidious AF.

re4 on Switch has a control method that can be used when pluging in a GameCube controller. It seems like a nice thing right? Well they messed up the qte prompts, instead of pressing A+B, you have to press Y+B, something that just isn't great on a NGC controller. It annoys me to no end that it is sooooo close, but still made it useless.

Rebecca not saying anything about what she went through in 0 is at least consistent with the dialogue in REmake as Jill doesn't tell Barry about anything she's seen since they last met up (Forest, Yawn etc) and Chris doesn't even bother to tell Jill that it was Wesker who was pulling the strings and had put him in that prison cell that you find him locked in.

The point about the keycard and that's one reason someone might hate the game, and that half the people playing on Twitch would be dipshits to miss it, I'm sorry but half those people are dipshits. I've seen a lot of people miss super obvious things even when there aren't time limits. In general, people are just bad at games, and people in general hate games they're bad at, that's why things have gotten easier or handholdy over the years. Classic RE, to me, is about learning from failure. I failed soooooo much in REmake before I finally got the hang of things and it became my favorite classic RE, but most people aren't not going to stick to a game to get to that point and instead play something else and say the game is bad. That's why it was so surprising to people when Dark Souls became a popular series, because it went counter to the way games have become. I just realized that game has easy mode, but it is still true for games in general. It's just the way you're talking is like people can't hate the game because they're not hating it for the right reasons or because they didn't take notes to jot down all the things that are annoying about the game and can list them off. Most people aren't in the position of readily having points and just remember their experience was bad. Most people aren't going to look at the background because they're too busy playing the game. I only played it once and it's my least favorite of the main games, yes even more than 6, but I couldn't tell you why other than that one stupid room with the monkeys and I hated that logic puzzle because I could've sworn I had it and it just didn't work. RE6 I've played a bunch and could list off a bunch of things I liked and disliked.
