@@PacificNorthwesting When you get a chance travel North to Cape Falcon from Oswald West State Park. There's a very popular beach at the South end of the cape, but if you take the trail North, go past the headlands to the bluff, the view is also outstanding!

Thanks for a nice video about Secret Beach. It has been many years since I took that trail. And, welcome to Brookings. Can I offer some advice from someone who has lived in Brookings since 1983, a former flat-lander? These places along the coast are dangerous if you don't follow the rules. Every year there are tragic accidents. Enjoy your visit but don't become a statistic. #1. Tide tables can be found in the local newspapers or bought in little books and carried in the car. Don't go onto the beaches when the tide is high. #2 Don't turn your back on the ocean because the waves can sneak up on you. It is really scary to see people sitting in their beach chairs enjoying the nice weather while their little children play in the water. #3. If you climb on logs on the beach, they can roll, especially if the water is coming up to them. They seem really heavy but they got up onto the beach because they float, and they are all scarred up because they have a tendency to roll. People, especially adventurous children, get killed. #4. The Coast Guard gets calls every year to rescue people who try to climb on the cliffs and they can fall a hundred feet onto the rocks. It can take time for help to arrive. When the helicopters go out at night, it is really sad. #5. Don't approach baby seals. Mother leave them on the beaches to rest. #6. Read the signs for laws about taking shells, plants, or bothering nesting grounds. #7. There are no rest rooms at most of the beaches. Plan accordingly. #8. Don't go beyond the railings on lookouts because the brush can extend out beyond the ground below it and it can collapse under you. The ground is slippery when wet. #9. Stay off the cliffs that are right over the water or stay back from the edge. Don't sit on them and dangle your feet over the edge.. Waves can splash up and drag you into the water and there is no way to rescue you before you drown.

I'll second that advice. As a 19yr Brookings resident and avid photographer our coast is incredibly beautiful and dangerous at the same time. Please enjoy it safely.
